  • Patent number: 9333934
Abstract: An airbag is fixed to a first location of a window in a stowed orientation and extends to a lower end of the window in a deployed orientation. A tether has an airbag end fixedly attached to the first location and an anchor end fixedly attached to a second location proximate the lower end of the window. The tether extends through a tether receiving aperture of the airbag such that during movement of the airbag from the stowed orientation to the deployed orientation the distal end moves along the tether. A one-way movement member is fixed to the tether proximate the anchor end. The one-way movement member passes through the tether receiving aperture in response to the airbag moving from to the deployed orientation and limits movement of the airbag back toward the stowed orientation.

  • Patent number: 9278661
Abstract: A vehicle airbag assembly includes an attachment bracket, an elongated support member and an airbag. The attachment bracket attaches to a vehicle body member and includes a hinge portion. The elongated support member is pivotally connected to the attachment bracket for pivoting movement about a pivot axis defined by the hinge portion of the attachment bracket. The airbag is attached to the support member and defines a lengthwise direction. The pivot axis is non-parallel to the lengthwise direction. The airbag and the support member are movable together about the pivot axis. The hinge portion is configured to direct movement of the airbag and the support member from a stowed orientation to a deployed orientation upon inflation of the airbag.

  • Patent number: 9272726
Abstract: The invention relates to an adjustable safety steering column for a motor vehicle, comprising at least one clamping device (100) which, for the purpose of fixing the length of the adjustable steering column (10), has a torsion spring (130) which clamps a casing tube (110) for a steering shaft (110) at a position that can be adjusted by way of releasing the torsion spring (130), the casing tube being inserted in the clamping device (100). At least in the vicinity of one end of the torsion spring (130) at least one stop element (141, 142, 143) is arranged, against which the torsion spring (130) strikes during an axial displacement (V) of the casing tube (110) which is directed toward the receiving tube, whereby the coil of the torsion spring (130) assumes an oblique position, which can be limited. An adjustable crash function is thus implemented.

  • Patent number: 9266552
Abstract: A wheeled vehicle is steered by a yoke or other operator control the movement of which is limited so that the operator's hands need not change position on the control. The steering is under the control of a microprocessor responsive to an input from the control, the vehicle's speedometer, and to accelerometers responsive to forces acting on the vehicle laterally and perpendicular to the roadway. The relationship between the position of the steerable wheels and the displacement of, or force applied to, the operator control is a function that depends on the magnitude of the displacement or force, speed, and one or more time derivatives of the displacement of, or force on, the operator control. The relationship between the position of the steerable wheels and the displacement of, or force on, the control is overridden when the lateral force is such that the vehicle is in danger of rolling over.

  • Patent number: 9266494
Abstract: An airbag assembly may include an inflatable curtain airbag with a stowed configuration and a deployed configuration. The inflatable curtain may have a first protection zone and a second protection zone that inflates forward of the first protection zone to provide enhanced protection. The second protection zone may be folded against the first protection zone so that, during deployment, the second protection zone pivots to unfold relative to the first protection zone. The airbag assembly may have a forward tether that provides longitudinal tension on the inflatable curtain airbag. The forward tether may be secured to the A-pillar of the vehicle and to a divider between the first and second protection zones so that deformation of the A-pillar may relieve the tension to allow the second protection zone to pivot inboard to provide protection from injuries that may be sustained in a small overlap or oblique collision.

  • Patent number: 9108552
Abstract: A vehicle seat is obtained that allows good assembly operation characteristics of a side airbag device to a side-frame of a seatback frame. In a vehicle seat, stud bolts and nuts that fasten and fix a side airbag device to a side-frame are covered by a frame attachment section of a resin seatback spring. However, the frame attachment section is formed with openings at positions facing the stud bolts and the nuts. During manufacture of the vehicle seat, it is accordingly possible to perform a fixing operation of the side airbag device to the side-frame through the openings even in cases where the resin seatback spring is assembled to a seatback frame before assembling the side airbag device to the side-frame.
