Abstract: A flat panel display has an image area that extends to one or more of the edges of the display. The display has a multilayered construction which includes a layer of x-coordinate busbars and a layer of y-coordinate busbars overlaying a substrate. A layer of optically active material responds to voltages applied to the busbars. The busbars and optically active material extend to one or more edges of the substrate. The driver circuit is connected to the busbars at one or more edges of the display through angled busbar extensions which overlap the the busbars and which extend for a short distance along the busbars. The extensions connect with driver circuitry located behind the image area. Portions of the busbar layers may be masked during depositing of overlaying layers to enable later formation of the busbar extensions or deposited material may be removed to expose portions of the busbars.
