  • Patent number: 10660137
Abstract: Colliding random access channel messages from multiple User Equipment (UEs) attempting to access a communication system include common access information for the multiple UEs. Responses to the messages are transmitted. A response to one UE includes UE identifier information from the common access information and responses to other UEs include new UE identifier information for each other UE. In another embodiment, a random access channel message that is received from a UE includes a dedicated random access sequence that is dedicated for use by a particular UE within a coverage area of a communication system. A determination can be made as to whether the received random access channel is received from the particular UE based on any one or more of: a set of one or more access points at which, a direction from which, and a receiving antenna beam on which the received random access channel message is received.

  • Patent number: 10595219
Abstract: A method in a first network node for determining a latency of a transmission link between the first network node and a second network node in a communications network. The first network node transmits an electromagnetic signal to the second network node over the transmission link as a first Frequency-Division Multiplexed (FDM) signal comprised in a first electromagnetic carrier also comprising payload data. The first network node receives the electromagnetic signal from the second network node over the transmission link, wherein the electromagnetic signal has been transmitted from the second network node as a second FDM signal comprised in a second electromagnetic carrier also comprising payload data. The first network node determines the latency of the transmission link based on a phase difference between the transmitted electromagnetic signal and the received electromagnetic signal.

  • Patent number: 10509097
Abstract: Each of a plurality of signal measurement circuits is included in a terminal. Each measurement circuit receives a signal from a transmitter in a satellite and measures characteristics of the signal. A computer is programmed to receive data from the signal measurement circuits. The data indicates characteristics of the signal, including a strength of the signal. The computer determines an initial estimated satellite pointing direction, and generates subsequent estimated satellite pointing directions. For the initial and subsequent estimated pointing directions, the strength of the signal received by each measurement circuit is compared with an expected strength of the signal based on the respective estimated pointing direction. Each subsequent estimate is based at least in part on the comparison of the immediately preceding estimate. Based on the comparisons, the computer estimates a current satellite pointing direction.

  • Patent number: 10411838
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for effective deployment of coverage enhancements in applications involving carrier aggregation or reception-limited devices, or both. Different categories of user equipment (UE) may be configured to receive simultaneous broadcasts and unicasts differently according physical limitations of each category of UE. Several component carriers may be utilized, and each may employ the same or different coverage enhancement techniques. Differences in coverage enhancement techniques may be accounted for with numbers and timing of hybrid automatic repeat request (HARM) processes, soft buffer partitioning, channel bundling, and/or transmission prioritization. UEs may determine to cease transmission of one or more component carriers based on different priorities assigned to the component carriers.
