  • Patent number: 6382396
Abstract: An accumulating conveyor system has an improved carrier assembly and delatching dog therefor which allows the carrier assembly to be orientated along a carrier path in any angle relative to the ground. On a three rail conveyor system, a pallet beam is slidingly connected to the two outer rails. A beaver tail carrier is centrally located on and connected to the pallet beam. The center rail carries a moveable chain having delatching dogs attached thereon at predetermined locations. The delatching dogs are releasably connectable to the beaver tail carrier and function to maintain connection with the beaver tail carrier in any angle along the conveyor path relative to the ground by means of a spring mechanism until an encounter with another beaver tail carrier.

  • Patent number: 6382402
Abstract: A receiving section is located in the region of a conveyor belt at which loads are deposited onto the belt to support the belt in use. It is a problem with known receiving sections that they have difficulty in dealing with larger loads which tend to be carried by broader conveyor belts. A resilient mount adjacent a centre line of a conveyor is disclosed which has improved spring characteristics which enables an associated receiving section to deal with larger loads.

  • Patent number: 6378683
Abstract: A currency evaluation device for receiving a stack of currency bills and rapidly evaluating all the bills in the stack. The device includes an input receptacle for receiving a stack of bills to be evaluated and a single output receptacle for receiving the bills after they have been evaluated. A transport mechanism transports the bills, one at a time, from the input receptacle to the output receptacle along a transport path. The device further includes a discriminating unit that evaluates the bills. The discriminating unit comprises two detectors positioned along the transport path between the input receptacle and the output receptacle. The detectors are disposed on opposite sides of the transport path so that they are disposed adjacent to opposite sides of the bills. The discriminating unit counts and determines the denomination of the bills. The evaluation device also includes means for flagging a bill when the denomination of the bill is not determined by the discriminating unit.

  • Patent number: 6374989
Abstract: The conveyor system for clinical test apparatus includes a main transport conveyor and a plurality of auxiliary conveyors located alongside the main transport conveyor. The auxiliary conveyors define straight line paths of travel parallel to the straight line paths of travel of the main conveyor. Each of the auxiliary conveyors is operated by drive means separate from the main transport conveyor. Two crossover points are provided between the main transport conveyor and the auxiliary conveyor. One crossover point is an entrance from the main transport conveyor to the auxiliary conveyor and the other crossover point is an exit from the auxiliary conveyor to the main transport conveyor. Each crossover point is controlled by a gate. One of the gates is a divert gate which can be actuated to block the main transport path thereby diverting puck traffic onto the auxiliary conveyor.

  • Patent number: 6374985
Abstract: In a circulating vibratory linear parts-feeder including: a main trough for transporting parts in one direction; and a return trough for transporting the parts in the opposite direction to the one direction, arranged closely to the main trough, and spaced with a small gap from the main trough, in which the parts are transferred from the downstream end of the return trough into the upstream end of the main trough. The parts are orientated in the main trough by orientating means and discharged from a discharge end to the outside and the other parts are returned from the downstream end of the main trough into the upstream end of the return trough. Thus the parts are being continuously circulated in the main trough and return trough. The main trough has a transport surface for orientating the parts, and an inward circulating surface which is lower than the transport surface. The return trough includes a circulating surface.

  • Patent number: 6371273
Abstract: A workpiece carrier (10) for conveying one or more workpieces with a belt conveyor (12,18) is described, which reduces the production cycle time of an industrial manufacturing plant. The workpiece carrier (10) includes energy storage devices (24,32,38), into which energy of motion of the workpiece carrier (10) is transferred when the workpiece carrier is braked against or stopped on the belt conveyor (12,18). The energy storage devices each include a coupling element (28,36), advantageously a friction wheel 28 or contacting piece 36, urged into continuous contact with the conveyor belt, and a spring device, advantageously a spiral spring 30 or a coil spring 34, connected with the friction wheel and put under tension when the workpiece carrier (10) is braked. If the workpiece carrier is no longer braked or stopped, the spring device is released and delivers stored energy by driving the friction wheel or contacting piece, where by the workpiece carrier (10) is additionally accelerated.

  • Patent number: 6371274
Abstract: A machining system and method of machining are provided for machining large, heavy workpieces, such as large aircraft components, that are oriented vertically affixed on a vertical, on-edge pallet. The machining system includes an upstanding workpiece support to which the transportable pallet is clamped. The pallet is large enough to support the large workpiece but is still relatively thin and light so that it can be easily transported to the machining station where the more massive workpiece support is located. The pallet lacks the necessary stiffness for accurate machining of the part thereon. The much thicker upstanding support is utilized to provide the pallet and affixed part the necessary stiffness when the pallet is clamped thereto, by a magnetic clamping arrangement. The magnetic clamping provides quick assembly and disassembly of the pallet with the support stand thereby decreasing cycle time and increasing production rates.

  • Patent number: 6371278
Abstract: An apparatus and method for stacking and loading disc-like objects into receptacles is provided. The apparatus includes a lane combining conveyor which receives multiple lanes of product and combines one or more of the outer lanes into the remaining lanes. A stack former is provided for forming individual stacks of patties which are side supported onto rails. The rails can be pivoted down to divert patties for clearing jams. After the product is formed on the stack formers, a stack transfer mechanism transfers the stacks of products formed on the stack forming rails to the matrix former. Matrix former receives individual rows of multiple stacks from the stack transfer mechanism. A stripper mechanism is used to ensure that the stacks are not scrambled during this transfer. Once the matrix former is filled with product, a case rollover mechanism is rotated to the matrix former.

  • Patent number: 6371125
Abstract: Apparatus for transporting rod-shaped tobacco smoke filters which contain and/or carry particles of charcoal and/or other solid particulate tobacco smoke filtering and/or flavoring material. A sender directs a series of successive filters lengthwise into a pneumatic conduit wherein the filters advance toward a receiving station. A section of the conduit has an arcuate shape and advances successive filters from a lower level to a higher level. The underside of the section has an elongated arcuate opening which is overlapped by a cover in such a way that any solid particles which became separated from the filters can be expelled into a neighboring chamber due to fluid pressure in the section as well as under the action of gravity and/or centrifugal force.
