  • Patent number: 7002116
Abstract: A baking method for heating an object (an inner pipe, an outer pipe) having a vacuum layer formed therein to remove gas molecules occluded in the object, wherein the object itself is made to be a heat production element for heating. By making the baking object a heat production element, the object can be heated directly and the heating can be energy-efficient. Moreover, additional heating means such as a heater or gas is unnecessary, which enables simplification of a configuration of a baking device. Therefore, a baking method is obtained which enables energy-efficient heating and, in particular, uniform heating of a long or large object.

  • Patent number: 6998581
Abstract: The invention relates to a deep-fat fryer having a frying vessel (17) and at least one heating element (26) arranged in the frying vessel (17). The frying vessel accommodates a frying medium, for example frying fat or oil, the heating element first of all melting the latter, if appropriate, and then heating it to a temperature of from typically 100 to 200° C., in particular of from 150 to 190° C. In the case of known deep-fat fryers, the frying vessel usually consists of metal, for example stainless steel, enameled steel or coated, non-coated or anodized aluminum. In contrast, the deep-fat fryer according to the invention is characterized in that the frying vessel (17) consists, at least in part, of a transparent or see-through material, which allows visual monitoring of the frying process.

  • Patent number: 6992268
Abstract: A steam oven including an outer casing to define an appearance of the steam oven, an inner casing provided in the outer casing to define a cooking cavity to cook food therein. The inner casing includes an inner wall and an outer wall, with a space defined between the inner wall and the outer wall and maintained in a vacuum state, thus insulating the cooking cavity from an outside of the inner casing. The steam oven further includes a steam generator to supply steam into the inner casing. Therefore, the steam oven accomplishes the desired insulating effect without using any insulating material while the space defined between the inner wall and the outer wall reduces conductive and convective heat transfer.

  • Patent number: 6993375
Abstract: The invention is directed biopsy site markers and methods of marking a biopsy site, so that the location of the biopsy cavity is readily visible by conventional imaging methods, particularly by ultrasonic imaging. The biopsy site markers of the invention have high ultrasound reflectivity, presenting a substantial acoustic signature from a small marker, so as to avoid obscuring diagnostic tissue features in subsequent imaging studies, and can be readily distinguished from biological features. The several disclosed embodiments of the biopsy site marker of the invention have a high contrast of acoustic impedance as placed in a tissue site, so as to efficiently reflect and scatter ultrasonic energy, and preferably include gas-filled internal pores. The markers may have a non-uniform surface contour to enhance the acoustic signature. The markers have a characteristic form which is recognizably artificial during medical imaging.

  • Patent number: 6989512
Abstract: A heat generator includes a cubic heat generating member for outputting heat flow. The heat generating member includes a heat flow output face and five heat flow insulation faces. Five thermoelectric coolers are attached on the five heat flow insulation faces respectively. A heat flow compensating circuit is electrically connected between each heat flaw insulation face and a corresponding thermoelectric cooler. The circuit is capable of controlling heat generated by the thermoelectric cooler to cause the temperature of the heating face of the thermoelectric cooler to be equal to the temperature of the heat flow insulation face. Controlling the heating in this manner results in the output of heat energy from the heat flow output face of the heat generating member being substantially equal to the heat energy generated by the heat generating member.

  • Patent number: 6987246
Abstract: A combination oven for the preparation of food has a cooking chamber containing heating elements, a fan and an atomizer for radiant, convective or steam cooking. The humidity within the cooking chamber is controlled by a water valve and either by forcing dry air into the cooking chamber and venting the humid air or by using a pressure box. Without any moving parts, the pressure box controls air exchange of the cooking chamber according to the level of water within the pressure box and the pressure in the cooking chamber. The oven has a condensate tank to collect condensation drained from the cooking chamber. The pressure box and condensate tanks form water barriers effectively isolating the cooking chamber from the vent and drain during cooking until venting is required.

  • Patent number: 6983104
Abstract: An apparatus and method for bending and/or tempering glass substrate(s) are provided. The amount of near-IR radiation which reaches the glass to be bent and/or tempered is limited (e.g., via filtering or any other suitable technique). Thus, the IR radiation (used for heating the glass) which reaches the glass to be bent and/or tempered includes mostly mid-IR and/or far-IR radiation, and not much near-IR. In such a manner, coating(s) provided on the glass can be protected and kept at lower temperatures so as to be less likely to be damaged during the bending and/or tempering process. Heating efficiency can be improved. A ceramic (e.g., aluminosilicate) filter or baffle may be used in certain embodiments in order to reduce the amount of mid-IR and/or far-IR radiation reaching the glass to be tempered and/or bent.
