  • Patent number: 4640155
Abstract: A hand tool for transmitting torque having a handle wherein a tool implement may be mounted in alternative positions on the handle. The handle includes a slot intersecting an end and the tool implement, such as an Allen wrench or a screwdriver, includes a head molded thereon having a configuration closely conforming to the handle slot. A projection formed on the head transverse to the length of the implement cooperates with bores defined in the handle during the alternative mountings of the implement from the slot. In its operative positions the length of the implement is disposed parallel to the handle axis or transversely thereto.

  • Patent number: 4633741
Abstract: A hammer has a pair of substantially-parallel relatively-thin plate springs secured between the striking head of the hammer and its gripping handle. The respective plate springs are provided with longitudinal ribs (preferably outwardly curved in cross-section) to provide the desired stiffness, while assuring sufficient flexibility and preventing undue shocks and vibrations from being experienced by the user during extended use of the hammer. In lieu of plate springs, a U-shaped rod may be used.

  • Patent number: 4625598
Abstract: A screwdriver tool provides positive engagement with screw having a head with a straight slot. An end portion is substantially flat, but is wider at its midpoint than at its ends. A tapering segment extends from the end portion and an engagement area is defined on the side of the segment. Engagement initially occurs at a location intermediate to the ends and midpoint of the end portion. As torque on the screwdriver is increased the engagement extends toward the midpoint and up the side of the segment.

  • Saw
    Patent number: 4624053
Abstract: A saw has a plurality of generally V-shaped teeth formed by punching. The sides of each tooth define cutting edges. A bevel extends along each cutting edge. The bevels are formed by punching with a tool having a surface oriented non-perpendicular to the saw blank. Burrs formed during the punching step are not removed, but are allowed to remain to enhance the cutting ability of the teeth.

  • Patent number: 4622780
Abstract: A glass scratch removal apparatus includes a driven rotating tool that is supported on a skirt that can be sealed against a surface to be treated for scratch removal. The skirt is conical and has some flexibility to permit the edge of the skirt in contact with the surface to deform in shape to follow curves or irregularities (such as on a curved windshield of an automobile) and at the same time, the skirt is held in place through the use of a vacuum. The rotating tool is pressed against the surface to lap and polish the surface. The tool is manually actuable toward and away from the surface, and a slurry is fed into the skirt to provide either for "fining" which is an initial step of rough removal of material adjacent the scratch and/or "polishing" which blends in or feathers the surface adjacent the scratch and provides for an optically satisfactory surface.

  • Patent number: 4621427
Abstract: A guide device for a tool such as a manual planing machine or a manual milling machine comprises a compass point connected to the tool by several guide rods. Curving or circular working processes are possible with this guide device. The compass point is preferably supported in a connecting piece connected to the guide rods, with the guide rods passing through the housing of the working tool. A sliding block additionally arranged on the guide rods carries the weight of the working tool and assures a constant, uniform working depth. When processing edges, the guide rods connected with the working tool may be mounted on an angle piece, which by means of further rods is connected with the connecting piece carrying the compass point.

  • Patent number: 4621458
Abstract: An apparatus for polishing a surface such as the surface of a disk which avoids rounding of the edge of the surface and reduces wear of the polishing medium. The apparatus includes a buffer plate whose boundary conforms to and is adjacent to the edge of the surface being polished but the buffer plate is displaced in a direction perpendicular to the plate by a small increment so that droop of the polishing medium over the edge of the surface being polished is reduced. Means of establishing the incremental displacement is disclosed in terms of the required polishing pressure and breakdown pressure of the polishing medium.

  • Patent number: 4620461
Abstract: The device for driving a screw comprises an elongated body having a shank at one end and a blade at the other end. The blade has a pair of opposite side edges, an end edge, and a pair of front and rear flat faces. The faces of the blade are spaced apart from one another adjacent the end edge a predetermined distance which is sized to permit the end edge to fit within the elongated slot of a screw. A pair of elongated flanges extend along the side edges of the blade and each have one end forming a tip which protrudes axially beyond the end edge of the blade. The tips of the flanges also include flat portions which extend perpendicularly to the front and rear faces of the blade so that the tips of the flanges will engage the peripheral edges of the screw head when the end of the blade is within the slot, thereby holding the blade against longitudinal movement within the slot.

  • Patent number: 4620370
Abstract: A generally rectangular body is provided of substantially square cross-sectional shape and the body includes a central longitudinal threaded bore formed therethrough with one end of the bore provided with a smooth diametrically enlarged counter bore opening end wise outwardly of one end of the body. One side of the body is relieved to define a flat mounting surface disposed in a chord plane of the counter bore and mounts a blade member therefrom including an elongated beveled sharpened edge projecting slightly into the counter bore. An abutment screw is threadingly received within the bore and projects at least slightly into the counter bore and may be adjusted to adjustably limit the amount a cue stick mounted tip may be telescoped into the counter bore.

  • Patent number: 4612735
Abstract: A workpart fixture for an unbalanced drill bit lug includes a support having a vee-shaped recess with an included angle substantially the same as vee-shaped intersecting surfaces on the drill bit lug to receive same and a fluid actuated clamp assembly carried on an arcuate slide which is movable in a circular arc path laterally relative to the drill bit lug generally about a centerline through the drill bit lug body to accommodate right or left linear or angular offset of the line of intersection of the vee-shaped lug surfaces and to optimize clamping force on the lug in the fixture. The clamp assembly includes a clamp lever which is pivotal toward and away from the drill bit lug by a fluid actuator and which carries swiveling clamp pads that seat against the drill bit lug when the clamp lever is actuated by the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4592173
Abstract: An apparatus and method for honing cylindrical bores adjacent to a larger cavity or bore is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a set of expandable abrasive-coated frustro-conical sleeves mounted on rotating shafts, one for each cylindrical bore, which circumferentially surround, and are supported by, a rotating inner supporting member. The sleeves and supporting member are moved through the bore and larger cavity in a direction along their axis of rotation, and in so doing, the sleeves contact the bore walls to impart a honing action. A means for precisely adjusting the final honing diameter of the sleeves is provided, as well as means for adjusting the distance of the sleeves from the center of the larger cavity. By adjusting the sleeves at successively closer positions to a desired final bore, the bore can be honed with great accuracy.
