Abstract: Header compression system for compressing the header of the data packets of a flow transmitted from an ingress node to an egress node through a data transmission network comprising template creating means, in both ingress node and egress node, adapted for creating the same compression template from a predetermined number of uncompressed data packets at the beginning of the flow respectively transmitted by the ingress node and received by the egress node, and header compression means, in the ingress node, adapted for compressing the header of each packet following the predetermined number of uncompressed data packets before transmitting it through the data transmission network, the compression being achieved by using the compression template.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method for predicting the likelihood of materialization of pending reservations for the purchase of perishable commodities. Details pertaining to perishable commodities for which reservations for purchase have been made in the past, are gathered and analyzed as are details pertaining to perishable commodities for which reservations for purchase are currently pending. Based upon the analysis, the likelihood that a particular pending reservation will actually be purchased or “materialize” is determined and this information is utilized for yield management.

Abstract: A health information package that a person carries with him at all times with all his health data, and enables him to grant caregivers instant access to all or any part of his health data, whenever the information is needed, at all points of care anywhere in the world, in computer readable and eye readable forms. A database management software program is contained in a portable computer readable storage device of the package. A blank data recording form and an updated health overview, organized by body organ systems, problems, types and sub-types of data can be printed when desired. With the package, any standard personal computer can be used to record, update, link, integrate and display health data from birth to death. The owner has absolute control on the availability, completeness, accuracy, integrity, privacy, confidentiality, security, backups and access to his health data that are stored on the package.

Abstract: A computer-implemented process of developing a person-level cost model for forecasting future costs attributable to claims from members of a book of business, where person-level data are available for a substantial portion of the members of the book of business for an actual underwriting period, and the forecast of interest is for a policy period is disclosed. The process uses development universe data comprising person-level enrollment data, historical base period health care claims data and historical next period claim amount data for a statistically meaningful number of individuals. The process also provides at least one claim-based risk factor for each historical base period claim based on the claim code associated with the health care claim and provides at least one enrollment-based risk factor based on the enrollment data.

Abstract: This invention provides methods and systems for providing an insurance policy having an inflation protection option that is computed at least partially based on information useful in offering a long term care insurance policy to an individual and at least partially based on the option for the individual to purchase additional coverage at a subsequent premium that is computed based at least partially on the individual's age at a date, which date is other than the date the option to purchase the additional coverage is offered, such as the date the policy issued.

Abstract: A product rate calculation system utilizing a software component architecture advantageously provides a flexible insurance rating calculation system that can easily be scaled, modified, expanded, and implemented in various computer system operating environments, while still providing quick, and even real-time responsiveness to product rate requests. The product rate calculation system includes a product application or component object that requests a product rate from a product rate calculation software component, and can supply some or all of the rating information needed for the calculation. One or more support software components and one or more protocol stacks facilitate component communication.

Abstract: A lexical knowledge base is compiled automatically from a machine-readable source (such as an on-line dictionary or unstructured text). The preferred embodiment of the invention makes use of “backward linking,” by which inverse semantic relations are discerned from the text and used to augment the knowledge base. By this arrangement, on-line dictionaries and other texts can provide formidable sources of “common sense” knowledge about the world.

Abstract: A computerized method and system for evaluating customers of a financial institution using customer relationship value tags and associated customer treatment actions includes automatically analyzing information about a customer from a database of the financial institution by a customer assessment engine using a predefined statistical model to assess the value of the customer to the financial institution. At least one customer treatment action associated with the assessed value is identified by the assessment engine, and the assessment engine marks a file associated with the customer with a mark representing the assessed value and the associated customer treatment action. The marked file is then accessed by other financial systems of the financial institution, or by customer representatives of the financial institution, and the associated customer treatment action is implemented by such systems or representatives in dealing with the customer.

In addition, the insurance claim can be pre-adjudicated prior to delivering the claim to the carrier for processing and can be approved and paid before the carrier processes the claim.

Abstract: An apparatus, program product and method track the location of a vehicle during at least a portion of a period of the time associated with an economic transaction so that risks associated with the actual usage of the vehicle can be accommodated in the costs for the transaction. In particular, a determination is made during a time period associated with an economic transaction as to whether the vehicle is located at a location having an increased level of risk. Costs for the economic transaction are then adjusted based at least in part on the presence of the vehicle in a location with an increased level of risk. In one exemplary environment, car rental rates are adjusted based upon the actual usage of a rented vehicle. In another exemplary environment, insurance premiums are adjusted based upon the actual usage of an insured vehicle.

Abstract: A system for determining the sources of delay of a transportation mean includes a wayside sub-system, a locomotive sub-system, a railcar sub-system, a a yard sub-system, a schedule sub-system, a monitoring and diagnostic sub-system and a management sub-system. Real-time collected data from the sub-systems are compared to a standard data set to identify problem areas without human intervention. Utilizing a list of top problem areas, transportation means managers are able to identify corrective actions to eliminate or minimize the sources of problem areas. In addition, customers or users of specific transportation means are able to properly select the appropriate transportation means.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and system for processing transactions involving accounts for reimbursing medical expenses or patient responsible balances, wherein the accounts may be handled by multiple payors having multiple transaction substantiation requirements. Examples of such accounts include flexible spending accounts, health reimbursement arrangement accounts, medical savings account, health savings account and the like. The system and method of the present invention allow an employer that uses multiple payors for administering the aforementioned accounts to distinguish its employees-based on their associated payors in order to determine the proper transaction substantiation requirement per each employee and associated payor without having required to collect payor data at the employee level.

Abstract: A shared vehicle system includes a central facility, at least one vehicle distribution port facility and a plurality or fleet of vehicles, each having a vehicle subsystem. In general, the central station and port facility and the vehicle subsystems communicate in a manner to allow a user to enter information at a port facility. That information is then communicated to the central facility, where the information is processed to select a vehicle from the fleet to allocate to the user at the port facility. Selection of a vehicle for allocation to a user may be based on selecting an available or soon to be available vehicle according to various algorithms that take into account the vehicles state of charge.

The Soldcase module administers sales and commission data and provides information regarding the selected coverage to other modules. An Advanced Relational Database Information System module provides billing and premium processing, and administers the payment of commissions. A Document Generator module produces documents such as policies and certificates. A Claims module performs claim adjudication, claim history, and claim payment.
