  • Patent number: 11831114
Abstract: A brush assembly (100) for a slip ring assembly of a rotating electrical machine, having at a brush holder (120) defining a cage into which a brush (103) slides; and a rod (101) extending along a second axis (D2) parallel to the first axis, for supporting the brush holder. One of the rod and the brush holder defines a recess (121), the other has a portion sized to be received into the recess the mating portion (105), the recess defined by a first wall (123, 124) disposed for abutment against the mating portion when, the mating portion received in the recess, the brush holder is driven longitudinally along the rod parallel to the second axis. The recess is defined by a second wall (122) disposed for abutment against mating portion when, the mating portion received in the recess, the brush holder is driven tangentially around the second axis.

  • Patent number: 11822226
Abstract: An electromagnetic braking assembly for maintaining an actuator shaft in position, and methods for utilizing the same, are provided. The actuator shaft may include an object, e.g., an imaging lens, which is movable in accordance with movement of the shaft. The braking assembly may include a braking coil to which electricity may be applied to produce a magnetic field, a braking magnet capable of changing position as it interacts with the magnetic field, and a braking spring coupled with the magnet such that the spring changes position as the magnet changes position. When the braking spring is in one position, the spring exerts pressure on the actuator shaft substantially preventing the shaft from engaging in linear movement and thus maintaining the shaft in position. When the actuator shaft is in another position, the braking spring does not exert pressure on the shaft permitting the shaft to engage in linear movement.

  • Patent number: 11799364
Abstract: Electric propulsion systems, and methods of operating and implementing same, are disclosed herein. In one example embodiment, an electric propulsion system includes an electric motor, a motor drive coupled to the electric motor, and a thermal management subsystem. The electric motor is a permanent magnet synchronous motor, and the motor drive includes each of an inverter including a plurality of wide bandgap semiconductor field effect transistors (FETs), and a controller coupled at least indirectly to the FETs and configured to control the FETs by way of pulse width modulation (PWM) control. Additionally, at least a first portion of the electric motor and at least a second portion of the motor drive are cooled by the thermal management subsystem.

  • Patent number: 11794913
Abstract: An electric propulsion unit comprising a housing, an AC motor, a beta rod, a propeller, a governor, an inverter, and a controller. The AC motor is disposed within the housing and includes bearings supported inside the housing, a hollow motor shaft rotatably coupled to the housing by the bearings, a stator which is supported by the housing, and a rotor which is mounted to the hollow motor shaft. The beta rod is axially translatable inside the hollow motor shaft. The propeller is mechanically coupled to the hollow motor shaft. The propeller includes propeller blades having an adjustable pitch angle which depends on an axial position of the beta rod. The governor is configured to adjust a pitch angle of the propeller blades by actuating axial translation of the beta rod. The controller is disposed inside the housing and configured to control the pitch angle of the propeller blades.

  • Patent number: 11770042
Abstract: A hybrid drive assembly is provided having a hybrid drive housing with an electric motor and a disconnect clutch therein. A transmission is connected to the hybrid drive housing and a torque converter is provided between the electric motor and the transmission. A baffle extends radially between the torque converter and the hybrid drive housing. The baffle includes a ring-shaped body that is affixed to the hybrid drive housing and extends completely around a transmission side periphery of the hybrid drive housing. A fluid pathway is located on or in the baffle, and orifices extend from the fluid pathway toward the electric motor. A fluid inlet port is connected to the fluid pathway, and a fluid connection is provided from a pressurized fluid source to the fluid inlet port. This allows fluid circulated by a pump within the transmission, to be sprayed on the electric motor for cooling.
