  • Patent number: 7853285
Abstract: A system and a method of controlling transmitter power in a wireless communication system in which user data is processed as a multirate signal in which the user data signal having a first rate is converted into a transmission data signal having a faster second rate for transmission. The transmission power is adjusted on a relatively slow basis based on quality of data received by a receiver of the transmitted data. The transmitter power is determined as a function of the first and second rates such that a change in the data rate in the multiple channels or the rate of the transmission data signal is compensated in advance of a quality of data based adjustment associated with such data rate change. Preferably, the user data signal having the first rate is converted into the transmission data signal having the second faster rate by repeating selected data bits whereby the energy per bit to noise spectrum density ratio is increased in the transmission data signal.

  • Patent number: 7796983
Abstract: A physics-based statistical model and simulation/modeling method and system of electromagnetic wave propagation (wireless communication) in urban environments. In particular, the model is a computationally efficient close-formed parametric model of RF propagation in an urban environment which is extracted from a physics-based statistical wireless channel simulation method and system. The simulation divides the complex urban environment into a network of interconnected urban canyon waveguides which can be analyzed individually; calculates spectral coefficients of modal fields in the waveguides excited by the propagation using a database of statistical impedance boundary conditions which incorporates the complexity of building walls in the propagation model; determines statistical parameters of the calculated modal fields; and determines a parametric propagation model based on the statistical parameters of the calculated modal fields from which predictions of communications capability may be made.

  • Patent number: 7782766
Abstract: The present invention relates to a data collection system and a data collection method in a sensor network, enabling sensor modules to consume lower amounts of power. The base station transmits data collection request signals to one or more sensor modules which are lower than the base station by 1 in a tree structure. Each sensor module which has received the data collection request signal transfers the signal to one or more sensor modules which are lower than the module by 1. The base station regards the transfer of the signal as ACK for the data collection request signal transmitted therefrom to the sensor module which is lower than the base station by 1. The transmission of a data collection acknowledgement signal starts from a sensor module at the low-order end. When a sensor module receives the data collection acknowledgement signal from a downstream sensor module which is lower than the module by 1, the module transmits the signal to an upstream sensor module which is higher than the module by 1.

  • Patent number: 7734283
Abstract: A method for opening a wireless communication session and providing an end-user with a free Internet session after they view customized content associated with a wireless access point (“Hot Spot”). In a preferred embodiment, an end-user opens an Internet browser after selecting an available “Hot Spot” displayed on their wireless device. The wireless device connects with the chosen “Hot Spot”, which then establishes a connection with a management platform controlling authentication and content unique to the “Hot Spot”. The management platform then transmits the content via the “Hot Spot” to the wireless device, where it is displayed until expiration of a pre-determined time. After the display expires, the end-user's internet session is opened via automatic authentication by the management platform. This authentication can be triggered either by the click of a login button appearing on the wireless device after the display expires, or by mere expiration of the display.

  • Patent number: 7676195
Abstract: A gateway node that communicates with a plurality of satellite nodes positioned on one or more logical layers is disclosed. Satellite nodes on the first logical layer operate as repeaters for nodes not on the first logical layer. The gateway node and each satellite node communicate outbound messages during a synchronized outbound communication time. Satellite nodes execute a receiving communication time that overlaps with a transmitting communication time for a satellite node on a logical layer that is one layer closer to the gateway node during the outbound communication time. The satellite nodes also communicate messages to the gateway node during a synchronized inbound communication time. Each satellite node executes a transmitting communication time that overlaps with a receiving communication time for a satellite node on a logical layer that is one layer closer to the gateway node during the inbound communication time so that messages are communicated to the gateway node.

  • Patent number: 7532901
Abstract: A base station (e.g., a central device including a transducer assembly of one or more orthogonal transducers) transmits a magnetic field at a known power level and direction. The magnetic field signal includes data information transmitted from the base station to a movable remote station. The remote station includes a transducer assembly of one or multiple transducer coils to receive the magnetic field generated by the base station. Location and orientation of the remote station (with respect to the base station) are determined based on the magnitude, amplitude, and/or phase of magnetic field signals received on each of the remote station's transducers. The remote station may transmit the location and orientation information (e.g., raw measured data or converted data) to the base station using the same coils as used by the remote station to receive the magnetic field generated by the base station.

  • Patent number: 7529551
Abstract: A system and method for performing ranging and positioning as follows by using the procedure for packet transmission and reception between a sender and a recipient. A first radio set transmits packets to a second radio set as a recipient. The second radio set returns the packets without fail after the lapse of time (from the detection of packets) which corresponds to an integral multiple of a prescribed unit time. The first radio set counts, by using its counter, the time which has elapsed from its transmission of packets to its detection of packets from the second radio set. The remainder of the thus counted time after subtraction of the time taken by the second radio set from packet detection to packet return and the processing time of the first radio set itself is converted into the distance of propagation between the first radio set and the second radio set as a recipient.
