Abstract: A method and system for augmenting an imaging device with non-native job settings without unduly complicating the processing of imaging jobs that utilize only native job settings is disclosed. In one aspect, an imaging device comprises a processor, a user interface communicatively coupled with the processor and a network interface communicatively coupled with the processor, wherein under control of the processor in response to job settings selected on the user interface for an imaging job the imaging device selectively invokes via the network interface an external process to process the imaging job per at least one selected job setting based on a determination of whether at least one selected job setting is non-native to the imaging device.

Abstract: The image forming apparatus decodes a two dimensional code within an image and obtains a password; stores the image in a storage unit if the password thus obtained matches a password entered through an operating section; and when an instruction is given by a user to display the image stored in the storage unit on a display unit of the image forming apparatus, displays the image on the display unit of the image forming apparatus without requesting an entry of the obtained password, and when an instruction is given by a user to display the image stored in the storage unit on a display unit of an external device, other than the display unit of the image forming apparatus, requests re-entry of the password for displaying the image on the display unit of the external device.

Abstract: A decoding unit decodes, when original data obtained from an original contains symbolic information that is encoded information of a predetermined operation instruction, the symbolic information to obtain the operation instruction. An executing unit executes an operation indicated by the operation instruction obtained by the decoding unit. A reading unit reads a specific area of the original preassigned for the symbolic information. When the symbolic information is obtained from the specific area, the decoding unit decodes the symbolic information obtained from the specific area.

Abstract: Provided are a fax data transmission controller, a fax server, a fax system, and a method of providing the fax system. The fax data transmission controller can store fax data received via a public switched telephone network (PSTN), and transmit the stored fax data to a fax server, to a facsimile, or to a user computer. The fax server can filter fax data that is received or to be transmitted, and perform authentication on the content of the fax data.

Abstract: An image scanning device includes a CCD pair provided with two rows of photodiode arrays for scanning an image on a paper, a motor drive circuit for causing the CCD pair to sub-scan the image on the paper, and an adder for superimposedly combining two outputs of the CCD pair with a predetermined time lag therebetween. A control unit controls the adder to add the two outputs of the CCD pair without the time lag when received an instruction of a low resolution that corresponds to ½ of a high resolution by a resolution switch and thereby doubles a speed of the sub-scan by the motor drive circuit.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a failure prediction unit, an image identification unit, a simulated-image generating unit, and an output unit. The failure prediction unit prepares an index value indicating a condition of the image forming apparatus based on multidimensional signal, obtained by monitoring the image forming apparatus, and compares the index value with a first threshold value to predict a failure mode of the image forming apparatus. The image identification unit identifies types of abnormal images based on the failure mode predicted by the failure prediction unit. An identified abnormal image is predicted to be appear a given time later. The simulated-image generating unit generates a simulated image of the identified abnormal image. The output unit outputs the identified abnormal image as the simulated image.

Abstract: An MFP which holds resources stores resource information about the held resources. Whether or not a resource holding request has been added to a resource downloading request from an SFP is discriminated. If a resource holding request has been added, a holding priority to decide a holding state of the held resources is set. The holding state of the held resources is controlled based on the holding priority.

Abstract: A printing method for printing a file stored in an e-book connecting the e-book and a printer to a network, where the e-book sends a message to find the printer. The printer responds to the broadcasting message to establish connection between the e-book and the printer. The method further includes sending a printing request to the printer by the e-book, and determining whether the file is a format which the printer can directly print. If the file is not a format can be identified by the printer, the e-book decodes the file to a format can be identified by the printer, and uploads to the printer. Then, the printer prints the decoded file.

Abstract: There is provided an image processing apparatus that generates print data for printing by an inkjet printing apparatus, based on a rendering command group that includes a rendering command for a vector image, comprising: a determination unit which determines, for each rendering command included in the rendering command group, whether ink having a predetermined property is to be used; a rendering unit which renders in a first memory a raster image corresponding to a rendering command for ink having the predetermined property is to be used, and renders in a second memory a raster image corresponding to a rendering command for ink having the predetermined property is not to be used; a lossy compression unit which lossily compresses the raster image in the first memory; and a generation unit which generates print data that includes the raster image in the first memory and the raster image in the second memory.

Abstract: In an apparatus having a document reading portion for reading an image of a document on a document platen, by reading an image of a document on a display screen using an area sensor, it's not necessary to set a document for reading on the platen so that the document is prevented from being left behind, and even when a document on the platen and the document sticks out of the platen to extend over the screen, it is possible to prevent the document on the screen is erroneously read. When detecting a document on the platen and detecting that an object on the screen does not have a standard size by the area sensor, a control portion of the apparatus controls so that the document reading portion reads the image of the document on the platen and the area sensor is prohibited from reading the image.

Abstract: In a color reading apparatus for successively reading respective red, green, and blue colors in each line while a document is continuously conveyed to a plurality of line sensor units arranged in a zigzag manner, the line sensor units are arranged with a distance equal to or shorter than a unit of line to prevent a color shift. When read data of the plurality of line sensor units in a conveying direction are to be combined, image data shifted by the number of lines corresponding to distances between the line sensor units in the conveying direction are set as first combination candidates. A color code and a line code are added to each of the data. Image data having the same color code and the same line code are combined. According to the image reading apparatus structured as described above, it is possible to obtain data capable of reproducing read data for each color on the same line without errors.

The first apparatus generates an object name of each of the plurality of objects by utilizing information pertaining to the concerned object. One example method includes receiving a print request and determining if the print request is for printing a user guide. If the request is for printing a user guide, then the method may retrieve an updated version of the user guide. The print request may be modified by adding the updated version to the print request. The user guide is printed using the updated version.
