Abstract: Tools for the disassembly of a universal joint comprise two embodiments, a pull-type tool and a push-type tool. In the pull-type tool, a pulling force is exerted on a yoke member other than the yoke member from which a journal bearing is to be removed, an opposite pushing force is exerted on that end or collar portion of the yoke member containing the journal bearing to be removed, and a cylinder/piston combination interposed between the pulling assembly and the pushing assembly operates to cause the exertion of the pulling and pushing forces, so that the journal bearing is forced out of the collar portion adjacent to the pushing assembly. With respect to the push-type tool, a cylinder/piston combination is mounted on a pushing or support assembly, and the cylinder/piston combination is operated to force the piston downward so as to exert a pushing force via the pushing assembly on the universal joint cross, thus forcing the far side journal bearing out of its yoke member.
Abstract: A retainer apparatus is used to releasably retain a socket wrench member on the plug of the driving head of a rotary lever. The retainer apparatus includes a connecting rod, a control rod and a sleeving ring. The connecting rod has an bore formed in an end surface thereof, in which the control rod is disposed. A retaining pin is passed through the position limiting hole of the connecting rod to interconnect the sleeving ring and the control rod, so that actuation of the sleeving ring can rotate the control rod relative to the connecting rod. The control rod has a circumferential extending retaining groove which is gradually deepened from a narrow end portion to a deep end portion. A retaining ball is positioned in the narrow end portion of the retaining groove and extends through a retaining hole of the connecting rod and into one of four retaining holes of the socket wrench member, so as to retain the socket wrench member on the connecting rod.
Abstract: A holding device or lock in a machining vise for positioning plates including parallels and angles wherein the positioning plate is provided with a cleat extending from the rear surface along the bottom edge thereof. The plates are held in place by spring loaded engaging members. A recess in the machining vise, complementary in shape to the cleat, may be provided.
Abstract: A surface grinding apparatus including a plurality of grinding wheel segments which are attached to a lapping platen directly or through an attachment plate so that the working surfaces of the segments form one plane, wherein the surface of a material to be ground is brought into sliding contact with the grinding wheel segments to grind the surface of the material. The grinding wheel segments are arranged so that a plurality of grooves are formed extending in a direction opposite to the advancing direction of the platen from the inner side of the platen toward the outer side thereof and communicate with the outer side of the platen.
Abstract: The invention provides a tool for aligning a clutch plate with a pressure plate. The tool includes an externally threaded tube having an adjustable clamping member engaged therewith for axial movement relative thereto. The tube comprises a stepped bore including a step between bore portions of differing diameter. An axially slideable bolt passes through the tube and has a nut at one end and a head at the other end. An elongate insert extends into the bore, and at one end thereof abuts against the step within the bore. The other end of said insert is formed as an enlarged deformable portion and is adapted to be radially expanded by the head of the bolt being drawn into it when the nut is tightened.
Abstract: A therapeutic headrest is provided for substantially reversing the normal pulling of facial muscles and tissues caused by gravitational forces. The headrest includes a body support for supporting a person in the supine position, and a head support to support a person's head at an elevation to effect the reversal of gravitational forces. The head support is adjustable to accommodate the physical characteristics of a person using the headrest.
Abstract: A clamping device with a mechanical servo mechanism having an axially movable plunger (3) and a clamping sleeve (6) which surrounds the servo mechanism and which engages by an external thread (6a) in an internal thread (2a) of a stationary housing (2). A clamping member (7), one end of which is supported on the plunger (3), is axially slidable in and non-rotatably connected to the clamping sleeve (6). Furthermore, an abutment (9) connected to an operating lever (10) is rotatable to a limited extent in the clamping sleeve (6). Between the clamping member (7) and the abutment (9) are disposed several studs (11). The external thread (6a) is provided directly on the outer circumference of the clamping sleeve (6), concentrically to the region of the clamping member (7) and the studs (11). A compression spring (15) is supported at one end on the housing (2) and at the other end on the plunger (3, 4 ), and acts via the latter on the clamping member (7).
Abstract: Device for removing a staple from a stapled bundle of sheets by moving the bundle over a supporting element past a staple removing strip. The strip extends above the supporting element at a small acute angle therewith and is fixed to an arm which is rotatably mounted on a shaft positioned at the side of the strip facing away from the acute angle and below the supporting element. The strip is moved upwards when a stapled bundle of sheets, with the legs of the staple facing downwards, is fed between the supporting element and a wedge-like tapered end of the strip, which end presses onto the supporting element. When in this way the staple is positioned in front of the wedge-like tapered end of the strip, the bundle is pulled towards the strip, the end of the strip penetrates between the crown of the staple and the bundle and the staple thereafter is pulled out of the bundle. The pulled-out staple drops in a receiving tray formed beneath the supporting element.

Abstract: An auxiliary table is provided for use in combination with a machine tool having a horizontal table and a spindle mounted for moving vertically relative to the table. The auxiliary table includes a circular table top rotatably mounted to the top of a support pedestal. A plurality of fixtures and/or jigs are mounted to the table top in an outer, annular area thereof and the auxiliary table is placed such that by rotation of the top the fixtures may be selectively positioned below the machine tool spindle for holding a part for being operated on by a tool carried by the spindle. Tools are stored beside the fixtures and/or jigs.
Abstract: Portable car hoist convertible to a trailer which has wheels for towing a vehicle. The hoist includes a trailer with a suspension, a wheel assembly, a base frame assembly, a liftable platform assembly, and a lift apparatus. A foldable ramp, a platform, and extension channels support a vehicle to be lifted, and a chock assembly retains the vehicle on the platform. A safety latch prevents accidental lowering of the platform assembly.
Abstract: A system and method are provided to facilitate disengagement of two mechanisms engaged with one another with a high stress therebetween, such as in rack locking arrangements used on offshore platforms. The first mechanism (e.g., a rack) is mobile in relation to the second mechanism (e.g., a pair of locking jaws) which serves as a locking mechanism for the first mechanism. The level of stress between the first and second mechanisms is measured, and the measurement is converted into an electrical control signal. This signal is used to control motor-driven force applying elements (e.g., pinions) in engagement with the first mechanism. The force applying elements are controlled in such a manner as to apply force to the first mechanism sufficient to offset the aforementioned stress between the first and second mechanisms, thereby permitting friction-free disengagement of the mechanisms.
Abstract: A screen installer tool includes a handle, a front portion and a rear portion. A circular disk is affixed to the front portioned and a second circular disk is affixed to the rear portion, each of which rotate as the screen installer tool is moved in a forward direction. The front roller has a convex edge and the thickness of the front roller is selected to fit within the channel of a screen frame, whereby the screen is formed in the channel as the tool is moved forward. The back roller has a concave edge for receiving and inserting a pliable spline material into the formed screen within the channel as the tool is moved. A spline path is provided from the back end of the tool to permit the spline material to easily inserted into the tool around the back roller as the tool moves forward and an idler roller, under spring tension, is provided to hold the spline material against the back roller.
Abstract: A machine vice with force amplifier comprises a base member (1) with an upwardly open, elongated recess (2), a fixed jaw (4) arranged at one end (1a), which is unitary with the base member (1). A movable jaw (5) is slidably mounted on the base member (1) and bears on its under side a unitary projection extending into the recess (2), with a spindle nut (7). A tightening device (8, 9) is arranged in the recess (2), consisting of a screw spindle (8) with force amplifier engaging in the spindle nut (7), which are adapted to be driven by a common handle (15). On the other end (1a) of the base member (1) a reaction plate (11) is fixed by a plurality of screws (12) on a fixing surface (14) ewxtending perpendicular to the spindle axis (A), against which plate the tightening device (8,9) abuts. The base member (1) comprises a second fixing surface ( 14a) for the reaction plate (11) at its one end (1a) and corresponding threaded bores (13a) for its screws (12).
Abstract: A roller carrying yoke is mounted on the base of the belt sander for pivotal movement about a pivot screw as controlled by the adjusting mechanism which includes a carriage bolt non-rotatably mounted in a slot in the yoke. The slot allows movement of the yoke relative to the bolt. The bolt projects through a hole in the housing and threads into the knob. A spring compressed between the yoke and the housing frictionally loads the knob so it holds adjustment. The yoke moves the roller away from the fixed roller until the roller engages and is limited by a belt. Then the loading spring is stretched to tension the belt. The tension spring force is cancelled out as the lever is actuated to pull the roller back for belt removal. When the cam follower on the yoke engages the cam (operated by the lever) the spring length remains constant and the actuating force is minimal.

Abstract: For use in a shearer/clipper comprised of a pair of oscillating drive arms for moving a first removable blade in a wiping motion relative to an adjacent removable stationary blade, for effecting a shearing action therebetween, a sharpening kit comprised of a flat block having an abrasive surface, for connection to the shearer/clipper in place of the removable stationary blade, and apparatus for connecting a selected one of either the first or stationary blades to the oscillating drive arms, whereby the oscillating drive arms move the selected blade in a wiping motion relative to and bearing down on the abrasive surface thereby sharpening the selected blade.
Abstract: A movable carriage of a support unit is guided via bearing surfaces along a base. A double acting piston and cylinder unit is formed within a bore located in the base. A piston divides the cylinder into front and rear chambers and a piston rod thereof extends through the rear end of the cylinder and is connected to the carriage for movement therewith parallel thereto. A first pressure fluid connection extends through the front end of the cylinder into the front chamber. The bore has a sleeve, the outer surface of which partly defines a channel extending along the exterior of the cylinder. A second fluid pressure connection is also arranged at the front end of the cylinder, but it communicates with the channel to communicate with the rear cylinder chamber.
Abstract: A device for holding and supporting a tire casing during servicing, and for spreading the casing of a tire so that the inner tube may be removed. The device includes a stackable cylindrical base having diametrically opposite cut-outs to accommodate a tire casing, a platform extending between the cut-outs to support the casing, and two hooks pivotally mounted on the cylindrical base diametrically opposite each other to engage and spread the tire casing. A pivotally mounted lever arm displaces one of the hooks from an engaged position to a non-engaged position.
Abstract: A pantograph lifting ramp for motor vehicles includes a pair of wheel guides supported by at least two pairs of columns, which are pivoted at their lower ends to two base frames. The columns of at least one pair have their lower ends connected through a torsion bar consisting of connectable sections. The lifting ramp includes a safety valve to prevent uncontrolled descent in case of failure of the hydraulic fluid system, and another safety device to arrest lowering of the lifting ramp if a worker's foot is accidentally placed between the base frame and a column or wheel guide during lowering of the ramp.
Abstract: A clip-clinching device for a coil-spring unit includes an arch having a pair of laterally spaced upstanding poles and a horizontal bar connecting upper end portions of the poles. First and second carriers are positioned on the horizontal bar and are movable therealong. First and second members are respectively provided on the first and second carriers and are movable in the vertical direction. First and second clip-clinching tools having projecting tongues at which a jaw is defined are respectively mounted to the first and second members. A base member positioned under the horizontal bar supports a movable coil-spring unit transfer device for movement along a line perpendicular to the horizontal bar.
