  • Patent number: 8256934
Abstract: A puck light fixture has a puck shaped housing, the interior divided by a partition into a circular central compartment encompassed by an outer compartment. Air conduits closed to the housing interior admit flow of ambient air between top and bottom openings in the housing. The air conduits are in heat exchanging relationship with the partition for dissipating heat generated by a lamp in the central compartment and thereby lowering the operating temperature of electrical wiring and connectors in the outer compartment so as to allow use of lower rated wiring for on site hard wiring of the puck fixture.

  • Patent number: 8226263
Abstract: The invention provides an illumination system comprising a light-emitting device which excites a first luminescent element, which forms part of the light-emitting device. The light emitted from the first luminescent element and/or the light emitted by the light-emitting device excite a second luminescent element, physically separated from the light-emitting device. By employing two luminescent elements, the first element in the light-emitting device, and the second element physically separated from the light-emitting device, such as on a cover plate, the conversion of light produced by the light-emitting device is performed at both a “local” and a “remote” location, respectively, and the amount of luminescent material required at the remote location may be reduced compared to the situation of the prior art where the light conversion was only performed at a remote location.

  • Patent number: 8210716
Abstract: A solid state light sheet and method of fabricating the sheet are disclosed. In one embodiment, bare LED chips have top and bottom electrodes, where the bottom electrode is a large reflective electrode. The bottom electrodes of an array of LEDs (e.g., 500 LEDs) are bonded to an array of electrodes formed on a flexible bottom substrate. Conductive traces are formed on the bottom substrate connected to the electrodes. A transparent top substrate having conductors is then laminated over the bottom substrate. Various ways to connect the LEDs in series are described along with many embodiments. The light sheets may be formed to emit light from opposite surfaces of the light sheet, enabling it to be used in a hanging fixture to illuminate the ceiling as well as the floor. The light sheet provides a practical substitute for a standard 2×4 foot fluorescent ceiling fixture.
