  • Patent number: 6508708
Abstract: First, a process of moving an object such as a train is executed. Then, the influential ranges of virtual winds that are correlated with the object in advance are moved with a movement of the object. Based on the moved influential ranges of the virtual winds, it is judged whether each particle object is influenced by the virtual winds. The position of each particle object for which a judgment has been made that it is influenced by a virtual wind is determined in accordance with the direction of the influential virtual wind. Particle objects that have contacted the object are deleted. The object and the position-determined particle objects are drawn in a frame buffer. An image drawn in the frame buffer is displayed on a display screen.

  • Patent number: 6488583
Abstract: An image processing system enables the manipulation of individual anonymous laser pointers in interactive visual games. The system includes a display system that displays an image on a display screen. A camera acquires a sequence of images of the display screen. Participants in the game aim individual laser pointers at the screen; the laser pointers form dots on the display screen. A warp module corrects the acquired images for distortion. A registration module registers the corrected sequence of images with the displayed image, and modifies the displayed image in response to a distribution of the laser dots on the display screen.

  • Patent number: 6471591
Abstract: A gaming system is provided which permits the hold value to be determined independently of the distribution of winning outcomes, e.g., to avoid or prevent volatility in the hold value. Preferably each time a wager is placed, a hold value (such as a predetermined and/or fixed percentage) is retained and the remainder is allocated to one or more prize pools. If a pool is too large or too small, or if a pool's rate of growth is too large or too small, the central computer sends a message to all terminals which contribute to the pool, causing the terminals to modify operations so as to bring the pool size or rate of growth to within desired target ranges. Preferably, the current prize amounts corresponding to various potential winning game outcomes are displayed when a game is won, the displayed amount corresponding to the type of win paid. Preferably, a portion of wages is retained as a background amount to at least partially replenish a paid-out prize.

  • Patent number: 6464585
Abstract: When any of push-button switches on a handheld controller is pressed in a sound input mode, a video game machine generates and temporarily stores frequency data of a tone corresponding to the depressed switch. When a joystick on the controller is tilted to a predetermined direction, the video game machine changes the generated frequency data according to the amount of tilt of the joystick. It is therefore possible to input various sounds in tone using a limited number of switches. The frequency data stored in the video game machine is read later to be converted into audio signals, and outputted from a speaker incorporated in a CRT display. When a melody based on the inputted sound coincides with a predetermined melody set, the video game machine makes various changes in the progress of the game. For example, a hero character can be warped to a position that is different from the present position, or provided with various items.

  • Patent number: 6439998
Abstract: The present invention has an object to permit change the progressing rate of time during a battle period in response to the skill and experience of the player in a game apparatus. The controller unit, upon detection of start of a battle between characters, changes the progressing rate of time during the battle period, from the progressing rate of time during a non-battle period in response to any of a plurality of pieces of rate information previously prepared for regulating the progressing rate of time during the battle period. The controller unit, the audio process unit and the graphics process unit adjust the executing timing of the character in response to the changed progressing rate of time during the battle period. As a result, when the progressing rate of time during the battle period is changed, it is possible to cause the character to execute an action in response to such a change.

  • Patent number: 6409601
Abstract: A main memory stores an operating guidance program for displaying operating guidance on a display monitor and enabling control members of a manual control input device to emit continuous or flickering light in relating to the operating guidance. Based on a command from the manual control input device, a CPU executes the operating guidance program stored in the main memory. The operating guidance program enables the control members to emit continuous or flickering light sequentially and displays operating guidance for at least the control members which are emitting continuous or flickering light on the display monitor. Not only the operating guidance is displayed on the display monitor, but also visual sensations are given to the game player by controlling the control members to emit continuous or flickering light on the manual control input device.

  • Patent number: 6390916
Abstract: A seal card game system providing multiple levels of non-progressive play. The game system awards a master case award to a winning ticket not among the population of individual deal winning tickets. A winning ticket of each deal set does not qualify for the master case award level. The game features segregated deal sets, each set containing break-open tickets. Each deal set is segregated by deal identifier indicia. In one exemplary embodiment, the deal identifier indicia is a selected color which is imprinted on each of the playing tickets comprising a deal set. The play tickets may be serialized by deal or by case for security. A seal card may includes the serialization of each ticket associated with the case. The non-progression scheme benefits the game operator in retaining the interest and participation of a higher population of players throughout the multiple deal play.

  • Patent number: 6390918
Abstract: In a video game system, model data and a plurality of arrangement-data groups formed of model numbers, position data, rotation-angle data, and scale data are recorded into a recording medium. An operation detection unit detects an operation on a controller. A viewpoint movement section moves the viewpoint, and a field-of-view determination section determines a model included in the field of view. An instruction control section outputs the arrangement-data group corresponding to this model. An image processing processor converts the coordinate data of each vertex of a plurality of polygons constituting the corresponding model at the position indicated by the position data sent from the instruction control section, according to the rotation-angle data and the scale data, and assigns the texture specified by each texture instruction data to each polygon.
