In response to receiving the indication, the method includes activating a balancing algorithm that includes determining a deviation of a midpoint voltage of the DC link as a function of a total voltage of the DC link, calculating a voltage compensation needed for pulse-width modulation signals of the power conversion assembly based on the deviation, and coordinating common mode voltage injection from each of the power converters independently at a neutral point of the power conversion assembly based on the voltage compensation, thereby minimizing the at least one of the DC unbalance or the AC unbalance at any given operating condition.

The plant comprises a rotor having rotor blades with adjustable blade angles and the rotor can be operated at a variable rotational speed. The method includes controlling the plant in a partial load mode when wind speed is below a nominal speed and, controlling the plant in a storm mode when the wind speed is above a storm commencement speed. An output power of the plant in the partial load mode and storm mode is adjusted according to an operating characteristic curve that determines a relationship between the rotational speed and the output power. A partial load characteristic curve is used as the operating characteristic curve for controlling the power plant in partial load mode, and a storm mode characteristic curve is used as the operating characteristic curve for controlling the plant in storm mode.

Energy is stored and retrieved by displacing part of the working liquid from the depressurizing reservoir into the pressurizing reservoir, and vice versa, respectively. Therein use is made of the hydrostatic pressure of the water (2) acting on the deformable wall structure of the pressurizing reservoir. The UW-ES system is compact and economical, and allows for highly synergistical integration with various power take-off systems.
