Abstract: A method of processing a non-real time service of a broadcast receiver, which receives and processes a service being transmitted in non-real time, and a broadcast receiver are disclosed. Herein, the method of processing a non-real time service of a broadcast receiver includes receiving a signaling information table including additional information on contents configuring a non real time service and a content identifier for each content, acquiring the additional information on contents and the content identifier for each content from the signaling information table, storing contents being downloaded through a FLUTE or an internet in a storage medium, based upon the additional information on contents and the content identifier for each content, and displaying a list of recordings including the contents stored in the storage medium, wherein a list of recordings screen displaying the list of recordings includes at least one of a content name, a channel name, a date of recording, and a content size.

Abstract: A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, receiving reaction information from one or more sensors located at a second location that is representative of a reaction by a second user at the second location to the presentation of the personalized content, analyzing the reaction information to determine a response based at least in part on trait information associated with different first users, selecting a second portion of the recorded segments based on a comparison of the determined response with a context identified for each of received recorded segments, and adjusting personalized content to include the selected second portion of the recorded segments. Abstract: A method and system for suspending channel signals includes a network, a plurality of terminals in communication with the network and a receiving unit in communication with the plurality of terminals through the network. The receiving unit receives a channel signal and communicates the channel signal to the plurality of terminals through the network. The receiving unit monitors inactivity at the plurality of user terminals. The receiving unit discontinues distributing the channel signal when channel inactivity is determined by monitoring the plurality of user terminals.

Abstract: A method and system to facilitate localized replacement of one or more commercials or other instances of base content in a video feed with replacement-media delivered in a separate broadcast TV transport stream. A local TV station that broadcasts to an area covering a video program distributor (VPD) includes supplemental content, such as replacement commercials, within its broadcast in a manner that standard broadcast-TV receivers would disregard but that a equipment at the VPD will receive and process. The equipment at the VPD thus receives the local broadcast from the TV station and extracts from the broadcast the included supplemental content. And equipment at the VPD inserts the extracted supplemental content in place of one or more instances of base content in a transport stream that the VPD receives separately from a video-program source, so as to establish a modified transport stream for delivery to end-user TV receivers.

Abstract: Example apparatus and methods facilitate providing a user-defined channel that presents content from, for example, a virtual video playlist. The playlist may include raw or edited clips of user-generated video content (e.g., video game highlights, smart phone recordings). The clips may be edited with sound, text, graphics, special effects or in other ways and then organized into the playlist. The playlist may be organized to facilitate presenting a collection of clips as a continuous show. For example, a user may produce a playlist of goals scored in their favorite video game. The highlights may be of goals scored by the user, in which case the video may come from the user's device, or of goals scored by other players, in which case the video may come from another users device or playlist. Playback of the playlist may be manipulated with respect to order, frequency, or other parameters.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for identifying viewing characteristics of an audience of a content channel. In one implementation, a processing device receives an identification of a channel of interest, the channel of interest having associated videos, receives data for a plurality of watch sessions where multiple videos are watched during the watch sessions, identifies at least two watch sessions of the plurality of watch sessions, each identified watch session having a watched video that is associated with the channel of interest, and identifies a most watched channel in the at least two identified watch sessions, the most watched channel being a channel that is most watched by viewers of the channel of interest but that is not the same as the channel of interest.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a receiving device including: a receiver configured to receive broadcast content; a trigger information acquirer configured to acquire trigger information for identifying a command to control an operation of an application program that is run in conjunction with the broadcast content and is delivered via a network; a correspondence table acquirer configured to acquire a correspondence table in which the command is associated with information for identifying the command; and a control section configured to control operations of a subject application program and another application program other than the subject application program in response to the command identified by the trigger information and the correspondence table.

Abstract: A device for enabling a user to cause programming associated with a channel to be presented is configured to enable a user to add channels to a subset of channels. Channels included in the subset of channel may be recalled upon activation of a dedicated button. Each of the subset of channels may be assigned a review buffer. The device may be configured to resolve review buffer conflicts.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus to provide content on demand in content broadcast systems are disclosed. An example method comprises receiving a first portion of a program via broadcast signal and receiving a second portion of the program via an Internet protocol (IP) based signal. The example method may further comprise combining the first and the second portions and at least one of store the combined first and second portions in a file or playback the combined first and second portions.

Abstract: A reception apparatus includes a receiver and circuitry. The circuitry receives audio/video content and acquires first control information that identifies application control information to control operation of an application run in conjunction with the audio/video content. The circuitry acquires a first table in which the application control information identified by the first control information is stored. The first table includes a time associated with a specific segment of the audio/video content. The circuitry acquires a second table in which application control information identified by second control information is stored. The second table includes a newer version of the first table and the time associated with the specific segment of the audio/video content and included in the first table. The circuitry controls the operation of the application in response to the application control information that is identified by the second control information and stored in the second table.

Abstract: Audio fingerprinting and other media matching technologies can be used to identify broadcast media, such as television shows and radio broadcasts. A user device can record image, audio, and/or video information and upload information to a matching service that is able to use matching technology to identify the media and provide supplemental content or information to the user. The user might receive information identifying a product in an advertisement, identifying an actor on screen in a movie at a particular time, or other such information. In some embodiments, the user can receive access to a digital copy of the captured media, such as the ability to download a copy of a program in which a user expressed interest. Since a user might capture media information after the point of interest, a device can buffer a window of recently captured media in order to attempt to identify the intended media.

Abstract: Techniques described herein enable a service to receive search requests from client systems and perform an integrated search across databases containing informational data for broadcast content and broadband content. The service receives the search request from the client device and formulates a query for at least one broadband database and at least one partner broadcast database. The service queries each broadband database with a compatible query that the service creates using information regarding the type of database queries each partner's database requires. Partners pay the service provider a fee for placing data in the database or for having their database searched by the service. The service formats the data received from the searches of the databases into a user interface screen that is presentable by the client device. The screen information instructs the client device on how it should respond to any key presses by the user.

Abstract: An apparatus for controlling fraud in a satellite signal delivery system. An apparatus in accordance with the present invention comprises a receive antenna for receiving at least one satellite signal, and a module, coupled to the receive antenna, for selectively delivering the at least one satellite signal to at least one receiver via an output of the module, wherein the module creates an association between the module and the at least one receiver upon installation of the at least one receiver to the output, such that the module delivers the at least one satellite signal to the at least one receiver only when the association is present.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method for providing media content implemented on a broadcast headend includes defining at least one metablock of media content according to a number of media content data blocks, where the media content data blocks are ordered in accordance with associated serial numbers, reordering the media content data blocks in the at least one metablock of media content to generate reordered data blocks, obfuscating the associated serial numbers in the reordered data blocks, providing details of the reordering to a receiving device, and transmitting the reordered data blocks to a receiving device.

Abstract: Described are computer-based methods and apparatuses, including computer program products, for deterministically skewing synchronized events for content streams. A first content stream comprising at least one content processing location is buffered in a first buffer, wherein the first buffer is associated with a first processing delay parameter. A second content stream is buffered in a second buffer, the second content stream comprising at least one content processing location, the second buffer being associated with a second processing delay parameter that is different from the first processing delay parameter. The first content stream is processed at the at least one content processing location of the first content stream at a first content processing time based on the first processing delay parameter. The second content stream is processed at the at least one content processing location of the second content stream at a second content processing time based on the second processing delay parameter.

Abstract: Aspects of a method and apparatus for communicating electronic service guide information in a satellite television system are provided. A satellite communication system may receive a signal via an interface to a satellite dish, and receive data from a network via a second interface (e.g., an interface to a LAN or a WAN, such as the Internet). The satellite communication system may be operable to channelize the received satellite signal into a plurality of channels, wherein a first channel of the plurality of channels carries electronic service guide (ESG) data. The satellite communication system may select which of the plurality of channels to input to a demodulator based, at least in part, on whether ESG data is available via the second interface. A second channel carrying media data may be input to the demodulator while the ESG data is available via the second interface.

Abstract: A content storage method and system for use in a content distribution network are provided. A personal file locker is established on the network for a user. A content-storage-request database is established. The database tracks requests by the user for placing video programs into the user's file locker for personal use by the user. Upon the broadcasting of a video program for which there exists a request by the user to place the video program into the user's file locker, the requested video program is stored in the user's file locker. The stored video program is then made available to the user for viewing. Alternative approaches to content storage methods and systems are also described, including the use of a buffer enhancement to enable the performance of operations on “live” television.

Abstract: A system and a method are described herein for enabling a user with a location-aware mobile device to have at least partial control of a closest set top box associated with a closest television. The closest set top box does not need to be associated with the user's home television but instead can be any set top box that is associated with a television located for instance at a stranger's house, an airport, a bar, or wherever.
