  • Patent number: 11336936
Abstract: The disclosed technology includes systems and methods for time-shifted prefetching of predicted content for wireless users. The disclosed technology can include a method of prefetching video data. The method can include retrieving video data and feature data and generating a video candidate set comprising selected videos. The method can include determining principal components of each video in the video candidate set by performing a principal component analysis. Furthermore, the method can include determining predicted videos using a k-nearest neighbor classifier. The predicted videos can be videos of the video candidate set that are likely to be viewed by a user at a future time. The method can include outputting instructions to the user device to prefetch the predicted videos by downloading the predicted videos to the user device.

  • Patent number: 11336938
Abstract: Facilitating pre-positioning of streaming content onto communication devices is provided herein. A system can comprise a processor and a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, facilitate performance of operations. The operations can comprise facilitating an identification of a first multimedia content stream and a second multimedia content stream. The identification can be based on a usage preference of a defined entity associated with a communication device. The operations can also comprise, in response to a determination that an available network satisfies a defined network criterion, facilitating pre-positioning, at a data store of the communication device, the first multimedia content stream and the second multimedia content stream.

  • Patent number: 11303971
Abstract: A session management involves registering at least one IPTV application in a registration table so that the registration table includes at least a respective identifier of the IPTV applications. The IPTV applications are invokable at a set top box and can be so-called embedded applications and/or browser-based applications. An event requiring the invocation of an IPTV application at the set top box is detected and triggers a look-up in the registration table. The registration table is thus used as source to indicate those IPTV applications that are potentially available and can be launched at the set top box. One of the registered applications is launched for the purpose of handling the detected event.

  • Patent number: 11297359
Abstract: A media system replaces content in a first sequence of media content. The media system presents the first sequence of media content to an end-user and generates a fingerprint of the sequence of media content. The fingerprint is for comparison with a plurality of reference fingerprints so as to identify the first sequence of media content and determine a reference position within the first sequence of media content. The media system sends a request for a replacement sequence of content to a content replacement system, and receives replacement media content selected based on the identified first sequence of media content. The media system presents the replacement media content to the end-user instead of the first sequence of media content. Presenting the replacement media content begins at a position in the first sequence of media content that is determined based on the reference position.

  • Patent number: 11290784
Abstract: Various embodiments of systems, apparatus, and/or methods are described for selectively obscuring a rendering of a media stream. In one implementation, the method includes receiving a request to render the media stream. The media stream is accessed through a first media source. A content identifier is identified for an event within the requested media stream. Based upon the content identifier, it may be discovered that the event is accessible through at least one second media source. The rendering of the requested media stream may then be obscured and a notification provided to a user that the event within the requested media stream is accessible through at least one second media source.

  • Patent number: 11290781
Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a method in which an end user device sends a first request to a digital video recorder (DVR) to receive a media content item, and receives a metadata file including authentication information and a network address of a media content server where the media content item is located. The end user device sends a second request to the media content server to receive the media content item; the second request is sent to the network address and includes the authentication information and an identification of the requested media content item. The end user device receives the media content item from the media content server, responsive to the authentication information and the identification of the media content item sent in the second request. Other embodiments are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 11234031
Abstract: An electronic device associated with a media-providing service obtains listening history for a media item. The listening history includes retention information that indicates a number of listeners who listened to the respective portion of the media item. Using the retention information, the electronic device generates a retention graph that represents the number of listeners who listened to corresponding portions of the media item as a function of time. The electronic device detects an extremum in the retention graph. The extremum corresponds to a reduction in the number of listeners who listened to the corresponding portions of the media item. The electronic device determines whether the extremum meets predefined criteria, and in accordance with the determination that the extremum meets the predefined criteria, the electronic device stores an indication that the portions of the media item corresponding to the extremum include sub-content embedded in the media item.

  • Patent number: 11234026
Abstract: Systems, apparatus, and methods are described for responding to inoperative commands on a server device. In some embodiments, the disclosed technology facilitates pausing of content being played on a device without creating a bookmark of the location in the content at which the content was paused. In response to receiving the request to pause the content from playing, the server device generates a pause instruction to pause the content from playing. Upon expiry of a timeout interval, the server device automatically transforms the pause instruction into a stop instruction, which when executed causes stopping the content from playing. In some embodiments, the server device detects an user interaction event, prior to expiry of the timeout interval. Non-limiting examples of the user interaction may be shutting down the server device, switching from the content to a live broadcast program, switching from the content to another content, or exiting from the content.
