  • Patent number: 8406303
Abstract: A method and apparatus utilizing a prediction guided decimated search motion estimation algorithm are provided. The prediction guided decimated search motion estimation algorithm generates a motion vector used to encode a macroblock in a frame from a video sequence. The algorithm includes generating full-pixel seed vectors, performing a full-pixel search around the generated seed vectors, which is followed by a fractional pixel search. The full-pixel seed vectors generated are a predicted motion vector and a hierarchical motion vector. A fractional pixel search may be conducted around a final motion vector generated by the full-pixel search and may include a half-pixel search and a quarter-pixel search. The prediction guided decimated search motion estimation algorithm can be implemented in both software and hardware. The algorithm is characterized by improved efficiency, scalability, and decreased complexity.

  • Patent number: 8392202
Abstract: The signal processing is based on the concept of using a time-domain aliased (12, TDA) frame as a basis for time segmentation (14) and spectral analysis (16), performing segmentation in time based on the time-domain aliased frame and performing spectral analysis based on the resulting time segments. The time resolution of the overall ?segmented? time-to-frequency transform can thus be changed by simply adapting the time segmentation to obtain a suitable number of time segments based on which spectral analysis is applied. The overall set of spectral coefficients, obtained for all the segments, provides a selectable time-frequency tiling of the original signal frame.

  • Patent number: 8370133
Abstract: A method for perceptual spectral decoding comprises decoding of spectral coefficients recovered from a binary flux into decoded spectral coefficients of an initial set of spectral coefficients. The initial set of spectral coefficients are spectrum filled. The spectrum filling comprises noise filling of spectral holes by setting spectral coefficients in the initial set of spectral coefficients not being decoded from the binary flux equal to elements derived from the decoded spectral coefficients. The set of reconstructed spectral coefficients of a frequency domain formed by the spectrum filling is converted into an audio signal of a time domain. A perceptual spectral decoder comprises a noise filler, operating according to the method for perceptual spectral decoding.

  • Patent number: 8370156
Abstract: Exemplary embodiments enable generating and propagating editing suggestions for system representations implemented in different formalisms. Exemplary embodiments enable representation of one or more portions of an underlying system in different formalisms. Exemplary embodiments automatically generate suggestions for editing a particular representation based on an analysis of the particular representation, the formalism in which the particular representation is implemented, at least one other representation of the underlying system, and the formalism in which the at least one other representation is implemented. Exemplary embodiments also generate corresponding suggestions for editing at least one other representation of the underlying system based on an analysis of the at least one other representation and the formalism in which it is implemented.

  • Patent number: 8364480
Abstract: A method and corresponding apparatus for coded-domain acoustic echo control is presented. An echo control problem is considered as that of perceptually matching an echo signal to a reference signal. A perceptual similarity function that is based on the coded spectral parameters produced by the speech codec is defined. Since codecs introduce a significant degree of non-linearity into the echo signal, the similarity function is designed to be robust against such effects. The similarity function is incorporated into a coded-domain echo control system that also includes spectrally-matched noise injection for replacing echo frames with comfort noise. Using actual echoes recorded over a commercial mobile network, it is shown herein that the similarity function is robust against both codec non-linearities and additive noise. Experimental results further show that the echo-control is effective at suppressing echoes compared to a Normalized Least Mean Squared (NLMS)-based echo cancellation system.

  • Patent number: 8359203
Abstract: A method for speech enabling an application can include the step of specifying a speech input within a speech-enabled markup. The speech-enabled markup can also specify an application operation that is to be executed responsive to the detection of the speech input. After the speech input has been defined within the speech-enabled markup, the application can be instantiated. The specified speech input can then be detected and the application operation can be responsively executed in accordance with the specified speech-enabled markup.

  • Patent number: 8356245
Abstract: A document corpus is annotated by given annotators and aggregates of the given annotators to generate a corpus of pre-annotated documents with given annotations. The same document corpus is annotated by a subject annotator to have subject annotations. The subject annotations are decomposed into superpositions of the given annotations. The decomposed subject annotations are mapped to a most representative superposition of the given annotations. The subject annotator may be mapped to the aggregate of given annotators corresponding to the most representative compatible superposition, resulting in a meaningful new aggregate annotator.
