  • Patent number: 10686912
Abstract: An over-the-air (OTA) platform of a wireless carrier network may be used to update a companion user device that is associated with a primary user device. The OTA platform receives a request from an entity to provide an OTA update to a companion user device that is registered with a wireless carrier network. The OTA platform identifies a primary user device associated with the companion user device based on subscriber account information for the companion user device. The OTA platform then sends a termination command to the primary user device to direct the primary user device to terminate an active short-range wireless communication link between the primary user device and the companion user device. This termination triggers the companion user device to establish a cellular communication link with the wireless carrier network. Subsequently, the OTA platform sends an OTA update to the companion user device via the cellular communication link.

  • Patent number: 10674372
Abstract: Network planning based on collected crowd-sourced access point quality and selection data can optimize access point frequency and/or bandwidth selection. A cloud-based application can be utilized in conjunction with a mobile device to build a database of access point quality and thresholds suitable for real-time and other jitter-sensitive services. The mobile device jitter measurements and selection thresholds can be collected at a cloud platform, which creates an access point performance and selection threshold profile from which the network can facilitate access point frequency and/or bandwidth selections.

  • Patent number: 10628691
Abstract: The present invention is a method and system to verify carpool occupancy compliance for access to High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes, High Occupancy or Toll (HOT) lanes, or other vehicle-occupancy contingent rewards. The present invention uses software and hardware devices with radio-frequency transmitter modules to permit the “check-in” and “check-out” of individuals from a passenger compartment of a vehicle for particular trips for multiple passengers. The passengers are verified as occupying the same vehicle and tracked for each trip to validate the occupancy for any portion of a trip. The validation includes image comparison to determine that the individual a live individual and is the same at the start and end of the trip. Validation reports are provided to authorized users such as transport authorities.

  • Patent number: 10499358
Abstract: At a network node, positioning assistance data blocks are determined to be requested to be broadcasted by a base station to a UE for use by the UE in calculating a position. A message is sent toward the base station with positioning assistance data blocks and corresponding information indicating to the base station that the base station is to admit or not admit for broadcasting positioning assistance data block(s) in response to insufficient resources at the base station to broadcast all the blocks. Indications are received of success or failure of broadcasting the positioning assistance data blocks, the success or failure based on the base station's admitting or not admitting, respectively, the positioning assistance data blocks. The base station determines which positioning assistance data blocks should be admitted or not admitted for broadcast and either broadcasts the admitted ones or does not broadcast the non-admitted ones.

  • Patent number: 10492022
Abstract: The present invention proposed a weighted Centroid Localisation (WCL) algorithm, which does the location estimation based only on the known positions of the gateways and the measurements of the Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) at the gateways. The algorithm computes the weight of the gateway based on their rank when the gateways are sorted by their relative RSSI. Simulations have demonstrated the algorithm's robustness under different multipath/fading channel conditions and its good location performance.
