Patent number: 4864703Abstract: In a press roll having a stationary support member and a roll shell rotatable about the stationary support member and movable in a predeterminate support or pressing direction throughout the entire width of the press roll, the provision of guide devices for the rotatable roll shell enable accomplishing an axial and radial guiding of the rotatable roll shell with minimum friction and without using roller bearings. These guide devices comprise hydrostatic support or pressure elements which can be adjusted in the predeterminate support or pressing direction. Bearing surfaces of the hydrostatic support elements and running or travel surfaces at the roll shell are spherically designed, for instance provided in mirror-image relationship to one another at both ends of the press roll, or at only one end thereof, or at the central or intermediate region of the press roll.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 1988Date of Patent: September 12, 1989Assignee: Sulzer-Escher Wyss AGInventors: Mario Biondetti, Wolf-Gunter Stotz

Patent number: 4860435Abstract: In the manufacture of a circuit breaker comprising a cover having a snap action blade attached thereto, with a movable contact mounted on the snap action blade, the optimum position of the movable contact with respect to a preselected locus is first determined and the movable contact is adjusted to the optimum position prior to closure of the circuit breaker. The optimum position prevents frying of the circuit breaker during operation.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 1988Date of Patent: August 29, 1989Assignee: GTE Products CorporationInventor: John R. Patent number: 4858308Abstract: A parts mounting apparatus includes a rotary-index table having vacuum suction devices on a periphery thereof. A removable suction piece is attached to each of the vacuum suction devices so as to perform picking and placing operations of parts. A suction piece stocker is disposed across a detaching station and an attaching station. A detaching device is arranged at the detaching station, wherein the suction piece is come to be detached from the vacuum suction device and held by a stocker when the vacuum suction device is lowered and then raised. When the vacuum suction device which has lost the suction piece is lowered at the attaching station, a suction piece is attached to the vacuum suction device. When the vacuum suction device is raised in that state, the suction piece is pulled out from the stocker. Thus, exchanging of suction piece can be performed.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 1988Date of Patent: August 22, 1989Assignee: Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd.Inventor: Ken-ichi Komori

Patent number: 4858312Abstract: This invention relates to a method of controlling torque in an electric motor driven connector applicator which applies a desired torque to a twist-on wire connector and a plurality of wire ends positioned within the connector. A desired level of torque is first determined by the connector applicator operator. The torque applied by the connector applicator as it turns a wire connector about the wire ends positioned therein is monitored until the desired level of torque has been reached. The connector applicator is stopped and then rotated in a reverse direction to release the connector held therein.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 1988Date of Patent: August 22, 1989Assignee: Ideal Industries, Inc.Inventor: Robert Van Naarden

Patent number: 4847962Abstract: A method for producing porous bearing shells with a compacted surface for gas-static bearings from sintered hollow blanks includes heating a blank with an inside diameter smaller than a rated diameter of a bearing and slipping the blank in the heated state onto a mandrel having an outside diameter equal to the rated diameter of the bearing. Subsequently the blank is cooled to the operating temperature of the bearing. The blank is reheated and the blank is finally pulled off the mandrel.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 1988Date of Patent: July 18, 1989Assignee: Interatom GmbHInventor: Heinrich Puetz

Patent number: 4841622Abstract: An apparatus and method for interference-fitting an inner member having a flange and an annular outer member. The apparatus includes a supporting member for floatingly supporting the inner member at its flange in the axial direction of the inner member. The floating support of the supporting member is changeable to a locked support such that the support member can support the inner member at its flange in the axial direction when it is locked. Before the interference-fitting is performed, the supporting member adjusts its support point and is locked. Because the inner member is supported at its flange in the axial direction during the interference-fitting, the inner member is not inclined even if it receives a circumferentially non-uniform force. As a result, a high quality fitting is obtained.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 1988Date of Patent: June 27, 1989Assignee: Topy Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Tadao Murano, Hisao Hirata, Toshimitsu Hayakawa, Takeshi Saito

Patent number: 4831726Abstract: A method for manufacturing a wiring harness of the type having a preformed cable containing a plurality of conductors and arranged in a predetermined path, and having breakouts for certain of the conductors which terminate in electrical contacts at one or more predetermined locations, includes the step of molding an integral frame from insulating mateial. The frame has groups of connector housings for receiving electrical contacts, and located at positions corresponding to the locations of the breakouts, and runners that integrally connect the housings. The method also includes laying the preformed cable in an operative position on the frame so that the cable breakouts are adjacent to the groups of connector housings. After the electrical contacts are inserted into the connector housings, the runners are removed.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 1988Date of Patent: May 23, 1989Assignee: Precision Mechanique Labinal, S.A.Inventor: Jose Moly

Patent number: 4823457Abstract: A method of cold staking a scalpel blade to a scalpel handle wherein the blade has a key slot complementarily configured to a projecting boss formed on the end of the blade handle. The boss has two elements at its opposite ends which project beyond an intermediate portion. When cold staked, the material of the projecting portions flows over the outside surface of the blade to secure the blade to the handle at those points where loading of the blades is anticipated to be a maximum whereas the intermediate portion of the blade receives the boss, which boss is not cold staked at that area to the blade. The handle is formed of a polypropylene having a filler of 25-35% by weight of talc.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 1988Date of Patent: April 25, 1989Assignee: American Safety Razor CompanyInventor: Frank H. Patent number: 4815203Abstract: A machine for inserting DIP components either into a circuit board or into sockets on the circuit board having two alternate heights. The insetion machine can be advanced a given distance by a fixed stroke cylinder, and the upper location of this stroke can be matched to the upper surface of the circuit board or to the top surface of either of the sockets by a cam which can be displaced horizontally to three distant locations.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 1988Date of Patent: March 28, 1989Assignee: Emhart Industries, Inc.Inventor: Rodney P.
