  • Patent number: 4721886
Abstract: The invention relates to a high-pressure discharge lamp provided with a discharge vessel having a ceramic wall and a ceramic end plug which is arranged therein by means of sintering in a sunken position and in which a current-supply member of a main electrode is arranged in a gas-tight manner by means of a sealing ceramic connection. Outside the discharge space enclosed by the discharge vessel, a ceramic filling piece is arranged, which adjoins with a capillary intermediate space the wall of the discharge vessel, the end plug and the current-supply member. The capillary intermediate space is filled substantially entirely with sealing ceramic. With this construction of the vessel end, the sintered joint between the wall of the discharge vessel and the end plug is completely covered by sealing ceramic and the sealing ceramic is prevented from extending into the discharge space.

  • Patent number: 4700104
Abstract: A color picture tube comprises a tube envelope having a tube axis and including a neck section, a funnel section and a panel section, an electron gun assembly for emitting at least three electron beams, and a shadow mask assembly disposed in the tube envelope adjacent to the phosphor screen. The shadow mask assembly includes a shadow mask and a frame. The shadow mask has a plate portion which is formed having a curved surface with a dome-like shape opposing the phosphor screen and regularly arranged apertures each for allowing the three electron beams to pass through, and a skirt portion extending from the peripheral portion of the plate portion along the tube axis. The frame surrounds the peripheral portion of the skirt portion of the shadow mask, and the frame and the skirt portion of the shadow mask are coupled to each other by welding at a plurality of locations. The frame is made of a metal material having a thermal expansion coefficient higher than the shadow mask.

  • Patent number: 4636684
Abstract: A color television display apparatus comprises a color cathode ray tube (1), an electron gun apparatus (4) disposed in a neck region (2) of the color cathode ray tube (1), a deflection yoke (12) having vertical deflection coils (14) wound about a toroidal-type core (13) and magnetic members (18). Each magnetic member (18) is shaped nearly like a letter U, comprising: a first portion (19) adjacent to the rear end surface of the core (13), extending in a direction perpendicular to the center axis of the neck region (2); a second portion (20) extending backward from the outer end of the first portion (19); and a third portion (21) positioned opposed to the beam exit end of the electron gun apparatus (4) outside the neck region (2), extending in a direction perpendicular to the center axis of the neck region (2).

  • Patent number: 4607191
Abstract: In a fluorescent lamp having a phosphor coating, a maintenance improving and light output increasing film comprising yttrium oxide and at least one U.V. absorber is applied over the phosphor. The U.V. absorber is effective in the absorption of a greater amount of 185 nm radiation than 254 nm radiation from the plasma discharge. The film is most beneficial when applied over alkaline earth halophosphate phosphors at a film thickness of from about 50 angstroms to about 500 angstroms.

  • Patent number: 4581558
Abstract: A spark plug for an internal combustion engine including a center electrode, an earth electrode, a metal tip joined by welding to an ignition section of at least one of the center electrode and the earth electrode, and an alloy layer located at a welding portion between the metal tip and the at least one electrode. The metal tip is formed of material highly resistant to heat and wear which is distinct in the coefficient of thermal expansion from the material of the electrodes. The alloy layer is formed to have a thickness of at least about 10.mu., so as to avoid the rupture of the metal tip along the surface thereof adjacent to the welding portion.
