    Abstract: An active matrix display device is disclosed which realizes changing over between a wide display and a normal display with a simple construction. The active matrix display device includes picture elements disposed in rows and columns on a horizontally elongated screen. A gate line is connected to each picture element row, while a data line is connected to each picture element column. A signal line for supplying a video signal and data lines are connected by way of sampling switches. A horizontal shift register controls sequential opening and closing operations of the sampling switches. The picture element columns of the horizontally elongated screen are divided into a predetermined area allocated to a normal display and a pair of expansion areas included in a wide display. The horizontal shift register is divided into a predetermined stage section corresponding to the predetermined area and expansion stage sections corresponding to the expansion areas.

    Abstract: A system for horizontal expansion of low resolution display modes onto high resolution displays including flat panels at a variable scaling factor is disclosed. The system may be combined with known methods for vertical expansion to allow low resolution display modes to be expanded onto any high resolution display. Two different methods are provided, one for graphics modes and one for text modes, to attain better screen image quality. In the first method, a first pixel data sequence to be expanded is first oversampled at a multiple of the frequency thereof to produce an intermediate oversampled data sequence. The oversampled data sequence is linearly decimated by a factor of less than unity to produce a replicated second data sequence longer than the first, which is then displayed.

    Abstract: A device for forming images of ionizing particles through single-dimensional electrophoresis provided with a multi-wire proportional chamber. Detection of the position of impact of the ionizing particle along the pitch of the network is performed by induction of a delayed electric pulse caused by an avalanche of the ionization electrons issuing from the ionizing particle in the region of the strip situated in line with the impact by the particle in the chamber, the reference time being that of the ionization electrons close to the wires.
