Abstract: A protocol or procedure is provided for lowering sympathetic nervous system arousal in a person in order to prepare that person for a medical or dental procedure. First, a therapeutic dosage of one or more neurotransmitter supplements, such as a gamma aminobutyric acid formulation, a tryptophan-derived neurotransmitter precursor, and dehydroepiandrosterone are administered to the patient. Concomitantly, gelled electrodes are placed adjacent or below the mastoid. The gelled electrodes are connected to a cranial electrotherapy stimulation device that administers a sub-sensation level current to the patient. Also, a noise dampening headset is placed on the patient and a neuroacoustic entrainment recording or program is played. Next, light is blocked with black out glasses. Then, the medical or dental procedure is performed.

Abstract: The present invention relates to the field of therapeutic methods to screen for compounds on the basis of their ability to influence Wnt activity. The screening process is applied to both a physical library of a series of compounds and a virtual library of compounds that affect Wnt activity. In one aspect, the virtual screening process could be carried out where a permutational library of small peptides is substituted for the small organic molecules. The inventive methods may be used to empirically test for effects on Wnt activity and may also be applied to any pair of proteins involved in protein-protein interactions.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating obesity, dyslipidemia, fatty liver or insulin resistance syndrome, comprising cinchonine as an active ingredient. The composition of the present invention comprising cinchonine as an active ingredient contributes to not only inhibition of adipocyte differentiation but also reductions of body weight, visceral fat, total cholesterol level, plasma triglyceride level and liver tissue triglyceride level, thereby exerting prevention or treatment efficacies of obesity, hyperlipidemia or fatty liver. In addition, the composition of the present invention induces significant decrease in fasting glucose level and blood insulin level to improve type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance and related metabolic diseases.

Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to methods of identifying a compound that binds to or interacts with a protein receptor involved in bone formation. Specifically, the disclosure is directed to methods of identifying a compound that regulates a Wnt pathway in a cell by binding to or interacting with cavities in proteins such as LRP5, LRP 6 and/or frizzled receptor and interfering with receptor binding to other proteins in a Wnt pathway. The present disclosure is further directed to methods and compositions that comprise an identified compound for treating or preventing a disease in a mammal in which Wnt pathway suppression plays a role.

Abstract: Compositions, and methods of use thereof, are provided for the treatment of painful neuropathy by local or topical delivery of compounds that interact with ?-adrenergic receptors, especially an alpha2 adrenergic agonist such as clonidine, to the entire painful area such that the need for systemic dosing is minimized. The compounds are delivered to or adjacent to painful areas in patients with painful length dependent neuropathy, and other neuropathies that affect the pain signaling fibers in the skin. A preferred compound for the treatment of patients with length dependent neuropathy is clonidine applied in a transdermal patch, gel, ointment, lotion, liposomal formulation, cream, or emulsion, wherein the concentration is sufficient to provide an effective dose in the painful area or immediately adjacent areas.
Abstract: The invention concerns topical compositions for the prevention and treatment of ocular pathologies, in particular inflammatory keratites and conjunctivites and dry eye syndrome, containing as active ingredients polyunsaturated fatty acids of the types omega-3 and omega-6, and specifically EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid), DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and GLA (?-linolenic acid), mixed with vitamin E acetate and formulated in a stable composition in hydrogel, i.e. in dispersed form in an aqueous vehicle containing one or more gelling polymers. The proposed compositions are particularly indicated for use as artificial tears.
Abstract: Provided herein are methods, drug formulations, and dosing regimens for improving cognitive function in a normal or cognitively impaired subject. For instance, methods provided herein comprise administering a GABAA receptor antagonist so that peak concentration of the GABAA receptor antagonist occurs when the subject is asleep.

Abstract: The invention is directed to topical formulations and methods of treating a migraines and/or cluster headaches, muscle sprains, muscle spasms, spasticity, tension headaches, tension related migraines and related conditions associated with muscle tension and pain with a therapeutically effective amount of an ergot alkaloid, skeletal muscle relaxant, serotonin agonist, combinations thereof, pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, prodrugs thereof or derivative thereof.
Abstract: A new treatment methodology and pharmacological composition for the treatment and remission of Parkinson's Disease and other neurological diseases are provided. The medication and treatment are based on the use of a combination of a phosphodiesterase inhibitor medication, commonly used to treat male erectile dysfunction, and a high-dose of serotonergic synaptic reuptake inhibitor medication, commonly used to treat depression, anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder and various panic phobias. The treatment regime is based upon the discovery that the primary cause of PD and various other related neurological conditions is dysfunction in the serotonergic pathways involving the brainstem, nucleus of Raphe, and various projecting serotonergic fibers.
Abstract: The synthesis and activity of novel LpxA inhibitors is described, these inhibitors present antibacterial activity. The compounds were designed based on a receptor model developed using the crystal structure of LpxA and are arranged to have a favorable binding interaction at the active site of the enzyme. In particular, the compounds present the following formula (I) where V, W, X, Y and Z can be independently C, S, N or O and P1, P2 and P3 are ligands to bind to the three points of the proposed pharmacophore model. They can be chosen from a variety of groups.
