    Abstract: A switched reluctance motor comprised of a stator having a plurality of evenly spaced, radially oriented, like stator poles that define a gap between adjacent stator poles. Windings for three phases are wound about the stator poles wherein a stator pole of a first phase is disposed circumferentially between a winding and an associated stator pole of a second phase and a winding and an associated stator pole of a third phase. A rotor is mounted for rotation relative to the stator. The rotor has an even number of rotor poles, the rotor poles being dimensioned such that when one of the phases is energized, the rotor poles operatively interact with the energized stator poles such that the motor moves from a first state wherein half of the rotor poles are magnetically coupled to a like number of the stator poles to a second state wherein all of said rotor poles are magnetically coupled to a like number of stator poles.

    Abstract: A molded through-flow motor assembly has a motor housing, including a cup portion and a flange portion. The flange portion includes a plurality of ramp surfaces extending outwardly therefrom. The cup portion has a field retaining wall and guide rib extending inwardly therefrom on opposite sides of the housing. A diffuser plate is provided having a plurality of scalloped ramp surfaces on a first side thereof adjacent to a plurality of air inlet apertures which open into air chambers on the second side thereof. The field and armature portions of a motor assembly are mounted in the motor housing and the diffuser plate is fitted to the flange portion of the housing such that the ramp surfaces abut one another to form a continuous ramp surface from each air inlet aperture into the air chambers. A rotating fan member is mounted to the armature shaft and is housed within a shroud cover fitted to the motor housing.

    Abstract: In a motor mounting mechanism, a cylindrical motor includes a frame (6) serving as a stator and an electric power supply terminal (2) attached to a bottom surface of a bracket (1). When the motor is mounted to a motor attachment device, a first external electrode (10) is mechanically and electrically connected to a cylindrical side surface of the frame (6) while a second external electrode (11) is mechanically and electrically connected to the power supply terminal (2). The first and second external electrodes are both located outside the motor, and thus, the process of providing lead wires for connecting the external electrodes to the printed board can be omitted, allowing the total size of the motor mounting mechanism to be reduced.

    Abstract: A substantially enclosed brush holder assembly includes a brush fixture of singular piece construction for use in a harsh operating environment, such as that in which a motor vehicle alternator operates. An exemplary brush holder assembly according to the present invention includes a brush fixture for use in connection with a dynamoelectric machine. The brush fixture has at least one brush compartment that is configured to receive a brush. The brush fixture also includes at least one set of spring coil compartments, each of which are designed to receive one of two spring coils of a constant force extension spring. These spring coil compartments are adjacent to and in open communication with the brush compartment, thereby allowing the constant force extension spring to be extended through the brush compartment and peripherally around the brush located therein.
