  • Patent number: 10412645
Abstract: Traffic associated with user equipment that are served by a first radio access network is steered to a second radio access network based on a cell user occupancy criterion. Cell user occupancy data that represents a maximum number of devices served by an access point is determined based on a type of the access point (e.g., macro access point, femto access point, WiFi access point, etc.). Further, based on the cell user occupancy data, a normalized index value is generated that is relative to different cell types/capacities. The cell user occupancy data is then transmitted to one or more neighboring access points that can utilize the cell user occupancy data to facilitate traffic steering, load balancing, and/or neighbor relationship management.

  • Patent number: 10375512
Abstract: System, devices and methods are provided to automatically initiate an enhanced 911 (E911) call from a telematics control unit (TCU) (e.g., a TCU deployed with cellular modem or mobile phone in a vehicle) to an answering point (e.g. public safety answering point or access point (PSAP)). A wireless carrier (e.g., mobile service center (MSC)) employs a positioning determining entity (PDE) and algorithm to improve caller location determination using information provided by the TCU (e.g., GPS and dead reckoning information generated at the vehicle) and network location information when needed, and provides PDE estimated location of the caller to the PSAP (e.g., using a data channel and optionally a voice channel) to mitigate errors in TCU location data and reduce potentially conflicting location information provided to PSAPs from TCUs and wireless carriers or other phone service providers.

  • Patent number: 10367938
Abstract: A mobile device having phoning capabilities also include capabilities to optionally reduce an operating load on a centralized mobile carrier voicemail system. The user of the mobile device is presented with a notification of an incoming call and is provided with an opportunity to answer the call in a traditional fashion, to optionally engage the centralized mobile carrier voicemail system, or to instead have the mobile device manage options relating to locally obtaining a voicemail from a maker of the incoming call. When the mobile device manages obtaining a voicemail from the maker of the incoming call, the voicemail is originally obtained and is stored locally, without use of centralized carrier resources at the time of recording the voicemail, and the mobile device can also play the recorded voicemail at any time without use of the centralized carrier resources.

  • Patent number: 10327278
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A wireless device transmits an indication of whether the device should be paged over a 3GPP access when a core network has data ready to transmit for PDU sessions over a non-3GPP access. A session management function (SMF) of the core network receives a data notification indicating that the core network has data ready to transmit to the wireless device for a PDU session over the non-3GPP access. The SMF determines whether to transmit a paging request to an access and mobility management function (AMF) of the core network based on a paging state of the SMG, a paging state of the wireless device, or a connection management idleness state of the wireless device. The AMF determines whether to transmit a paging message to the wireless device.

  • Patent number: 10313841
Abstract: Provided are methods and devices for determining a stop period of a mobile device in a location, according to geolocation data available on the mobile device. A predicted position of the mobile device and an associated level of uncertainty related to the predicted position is determined according to either the current position of the mobile device if it is available, or, if not, according to an artificial position obtained from a previously known position of the mobile device. The mobile device is considered to be in a stop period if the normalized prediction error between the predicted position and either the current position or the artificial position, depending on the situation, is smaller than a prediction error threshold. Upon detection of a stop period, an action on the mobile device is triggered.

  • Patent number: 10218520
Abstract: A floor control for a video application operating on a wireless device employing a video bearer may be modified by a video application function (AF). A policy and charging rules function (PCRF) may receive from the video AF, a first request, in response to the modifying the floor control. The first request may comprise one or more quality of service (QoS) parameters indicating a QoS of the video bearer. The PCRF may decide one or more policy and charging control (PCC) provisions for the QoS provided for the video application. The PCRF may transmit to a policy charging enforcement function (PCEF), a second request comprising the one or more PCC provisions for the QoS. The PCEF may enforce the one or more PCC provisions for the QoS on a popularity of packet transmitted via the video bearer to the wireless device.
