  • Patent number: 9437163
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses to varying the apparent brightness of a display are described. The change in apparent brightness is accompanied by unchanged in relative contrast, rendering a display with higher or lower brightness while maintaining contrast fidelity. In exemplary embodiments, the signals for the middle tone levels are adjusted to increase or decrease the brightness intensity, while keeping constant the gamma correction. This maintains the relative contrast of images while rendering them at a different brightness. Implementations of the present process include an adjusted gamma correction lookup table, incorporated in the video card to modify the video signal before reaching the display. The present invention can be used for matching the brightness of two or more displays or to provide compensation for variations in display characteristics to ensure consistency in display brightness within a data processing model.

  • Patent number: 9372576
Abstract: An image jaggedness filter is disclosed that can be used to detect the presence of ungrounded objects such as water droplets or coins, and delay periodic baseline adjustments until these objects are no longer present. To do otherwise could produce inaccurate normalized baseline sensor output values. The application of a global baseline offset is also disclosed to quickly modify the sensor offset values to account for conditions such as rapid temperature changes. Background pixels not part of any touch regions can be used to detect changes to no-touch sensor output values and globally modify the sensor offset values accordingly. The use of motion dominance ratios and axis domination confidence values is also disclosed to improve the accuracy of locking onto dominant motion components as part of gesture recognition.

  • Patent number: 9368074
Abstract: A technique for modulating light by an optically addressed, electric charge accumulating spatial light modulator achieves substantially monotonic gray scale response. Embodiments digitally modulate the voltage across a photoreceptive material included in the spatial light modulator. The digital modulation scheme entails illuminating the photoreceptor with a series of light pulses propagating from an LCoS, in which the durations of the light pulses and their positions in time combine to produce binary-weighted equivalent rms voltages on the photoreceptor. The light pulses originate from a light-emitting diode or other switchable light source, and the timing of the light pulses is controlled such that they are emitted only when the associated LCoS is in a stable state. Emitting light pulses while the LCoS is in a stable state avoids non-monotonic behavior.

  • Patent number: 9368072
Abstract: Control sections of displays 11 each determine control information Pi used when area-active driving is performed individually and transmit the control information Pi to a multi-display control section 12. The multi-display control section 12 determines control information Ps for the entire device on the basis of the received pieces of control information Pi and transmits the control information Ps to the control sections of the displays 11. All the displays 11 perform area-active driving on the basis of the same control information Ps. In this way, occurrence of a luminance difference or chromaticity difference among display screens of the displays 11 is prevented and the quality of a displayed image is improved.

  • Patent number: 9368076
Abstract: The present invention proposes an LCD capable of reducing flicker when showing 3D images. The LCD adds a plurality of switch units to every row of scan lines while no additional gate driver is added. The plurality of switch units separately control charging and charge sharing of pixel units, therefore pixel charging and charge sharing are separately controlled. Hence the present invention fixes flicker in 3D image display while no additional gate driver is added.

  • Patent number: 9256295
Abstract: A handheld wireless communication device includes features that make it easier to differentiate among various keys and to correctly select a desired key. It also includes features that make the device more comfortable to use. In particular, corner keys have decreasing height profiles to make above-adjacent keys easier to reach and distinguish. Additionally, lowermost, outermost portions of the corner keys may be somewhat truncated. Flanking keys in a navigation row slant toward and are flush with peripheral edges of a navigation tool assembly and have outer edges that are higher than inner edges of adjacent outer keys. The outer edges of the flanking keys may be hump-shaped or crowned. The longitudinally central portion of the device is narrower than the ends of the device, and the corners of the device are contoured to enhance comfort in a user's hand. Soft-touch materials are employed in hand-contacting portions of the device.

  • Patent number: 9244587
Abstract: A pointer controlling apparatus, a control method, and a pointer controlling program are provided which can protect a button from erroneous operation without interrupting the operational flow or using excessive display area. The pointer controlling apparatus permits a pointer to move into a predetermined region after a predetermined period of time has elapsed from a point in time when the pointer comes into contact with a boundary line of the predetermined region. Accordingly, the predetermined area can be securely protected from a point in time at which the pointer comes into contact with the boundary line of the predetermined region for the predetermined amount of time. Furthermore, since the pointer is permitted to enter the predetermined region immediately after the predetermined time has elapsed, the predetermined region can be protected without interrupting the operational flow, and without using an excess of a display region.
