Abstract: A low temperature synthetic splint/orthotic material having affixed thereto a layer of gel-like viscoelastic padding having a compressibility such that upon normal application of the padded splinting material to a body part exhibiting such as bony prominences, that the padding compresses but does not bottom out under normal usage whereby the bony prominence is supported over its extent along with the rest of the body part. In preferred embodiments a cover of fabric, foam or polymeric film is bonded over the viscoelastic padding to isolate body tissue from possible discomfort associated with some properties of the padding material.
Abstract: A wound dressing has its wound-contacting surface composed of a tow or strand of textile filaments at least 15 mm long or a fabric of textile filaments at least 3 mm long, substantially all of the filaments being non-crosslinked carboxymethylcellulose filaments capable of absorbing at least 15 times their own weight of 0.9% aqueous saline solution. The wound-contacting surface forms a swollen, transparent gel which retains sufficient fibrous character to be removable as a coherent dressing from the wound.

Abstract: An effective and convenient medicament delivery system comprising novel extrudable compositions. The preferred compositions of the invention contain a thermoplastic water-soluble polymer selected from the group consisting of hydroxypropyl cellulose and polyethylene oxide; a water-soluble polymer derived from acrylic acid; medicament; and plasticizer. The compositions provide an effective medicament delivery system and are especially suitable for use with adhesive bandages.

Abstract: With a medical splint (1) for securing and immobilizing movable body parts, in particular extremities of a human or an animal, along a splint axis (6), where said splint (1) comprises a sheet metal (2) that can be shaped plastically by hand and is covered on both sides with a cover layer (3, 4), a high shapability and stiffness at the same time are achieved by the fact that the sheet metal (2) is designed with corrugations in at least some areas, where the peaks and valleys of the corrugations (42) run essentially across the splint axis (6).
Abstract: An orthopedic casting article containing a fibrous backing stabilized with a water soluble binder and having a hardenable material applied thereto is described. Methods of making and using such orthopedic casting articles are also described.
