Abstract: A method and device for controlling the operability of a transmitter on a mobile communications device by determining if the mobile communications device is located within the cabin of an airplane. A condition parameter of the mobile communications device may be determined. The transmitter on the mobile communications device may be disabled in response to the mobile communications device being located within an airplane and further in response to the determined condition parameter.

Abstract: There is provided a system for detecting a location of a mobile station (MS) by using a pilot strength measurement message (PSMM) in a mobile communication system providing a location-based service in a mobile communication network, comprising: a position determination entity (PDE) for detecting the location of the mobile station, collecting PSMM information from the mobile station, the location detection of which is required, and obtaining the location of the mobile station by using collected PSMM information.

Abstract: Methods and systems for determining the density and velocity of wireless communication devices (WCDs) on a road are provided. A preferred embodiment involves determining a set of WCDs that are being served by a plurality of wireless coverage areas that intersect the road. This set of WCDs is narrowed to include only those WCDs that are (1) presumed to be in motion and (2) within a predefined geographic definition of the road. The density and aggregate velocity of the resulting WCDs is determined. From these determinations, the traffic density and aggregate traffic velocity of vehicles on the road can be estimated and an associated output can be provided.
Abstract: A mobile terminal device detects current communication environment status of the device and calculates a value of a radio quality index (RQI), and adjusts the roaming threshold according to the value of the RQI. The device further calculates a value of a user movement index (UMI) and adjusts the frequency of the device for scanning object access points. After determining the object access point that has satisfied a roaming threshold, the device ends the communication between the device and the current access point, and establishes a communication between the device and the object access point.
