  • Patent number: 6742027
Abstract: A data processing system and method are described for permitting a server computer system to remotely disable an input device included within a client computer system coupled to the server utilizing a network. The server computer system transmits a message to the client computer system to disable the input device. In response to a receipt of the message, a network adapter included within the client computer system disables the input device by prohibiting a data stream output from the input device from being received by an input/output controller included within the client computer system.

  • Patent number: 6226249
Abstract: A pickup unit which includes a first chassis having mounted thereon a spindle motor for use in disc rotation and a DC motor serving as a drive source, and a second chassis having a disc clamper and a driving force transmission gear. The first and second chassises are combined in such a manner that they can be opened and closed around a rotary shaft. A drive shaft of the DC motor is provided with a worm gear, and an intermediate gear meshing with the worm gear is provided on the second chassis to transmit a driving force to the driving force transmission gear, and at the same time. the axis of the drive shaft of the DC motor is placed in line with the axis of the rotary shaft.

  • Patent number: 6081494
Abstract: A disc device having a floating base supported by a chassis through a plurality of elastic members, a holder which is supported on the floating base so as to be able to move vertically with respect to the floating base, and into which a disc cartridge is inserted, a slider, slidably disposed so as to move in directions of inserting and discharging a disc cartridge into and out of the disc device, for holding and carrying a disc cartridge inserted thereinto, and a driving arm, one end part of which is rotatably supported on an axis, and another end part of which can be engaged with the slider for inserting and discharging the disc cartridge. Furthermore, the device having a pair of slide plates slidably fixed on the chassis, for securing the floating base to the chassis and for releasing the floating base from the chassis, a pair of links for sliding the pair of slide plates, and a rotary member for rotating the driving arm so as to drive the slider and for driving the pair of links.

  • Patent number: 6052358
Abstract: A head feeding mechanism used for an apparatus for recording and/or reading information signals on/from such a recording medium as an optical disk comprises a head mechanism, a feed screw, a rotation driving mechanism, a base, and a forcing mechanism. The feed screw is engaged with the head mechanism and rotated to feed the head mechanism. The rotation driving mechanism drives the feed screw to rotate. On the base is arranged the rotation driving mechanism. The base includes a pair of bearings used for the feed screw. At least one of the pair of bearings is a thrust bearing. The forcing mechanism is provided on the base and butts against one end of the feed screw. The forcing mechanism applies a force working on the feed screw both in the thrust direction and in the direction orthogonal to the thrust direction.

  • Patent number: 5959950
Abstract: Unlike conventional disk drives, a disk drive of the invention is capable of loading a plurality of different types of disks at the same time, and has the capability of protecting a disk sensitive to contamination, such as a RAM disk, from contamination. A plurality of trays are placed in a disk package which is loaded into a disk drive. Different types of disks may be placed on the respective trays. In the package, there is provided a first locking mechanism for locking all trays. This first locking mechanism can be unlocked by a manual operation. There is also provided a second locking mechanism which locks only those trays on which RAM disks or the like are placed so that the RAM disks are prevented from being taken out. In the main unit of the disk drive, there is provided an unlocking member for unlocking both the first and second locking mechanisms.

  • Patent number: 5774448
Abstract: An optical disc is disclosed having a substrate in which data can be written on or read from, such optical disc being adapted to be inserted and clamped onto a spindle in a disc drive and having a transparent cover sheet disposed over the substrate surface. The cover sheet is held at inner and outer radii so that it is positioned to have a desired spacing from the substrate to prevent contaminants from passing to the substrate surface. A plurality of air passages are formed in the optical disc to prevent the transparent cover sheet from deflecting due to pressure differences between the outside atmosphere and the air in the space between the substrate surface and the transparent cover sheet.
