  • Patent number: 5882161
Abstract: A self-drilling and thread-forming screw comprises a threaded shank, a drilling section arranged in front of the shank and having a uniform diameter, and a thread-free flow-forming section widening conically between the drilling section and the shank. The drilling section has two chip grooves which run diametrically opposite one another, are bounded by flute edges and cutting edges, and end in a drilling tip with the cutting edges running together at the tip. The diameter formed by the cutting edges is smaller than a minor diameter of the threaded shank, and the largest diameter of the flow-forming section corresponds to the minor diameter of the shank and includes a symmetrical polygonal cross-section with rounded-off corners in a region adjoining the shank.

  • Patent number: 5879100
Abstract: The present assembly provides a coupling element for an adjustable hand lever mechanism. The coupling element having an disk shaped body, an extension and a projection. The disk shaped body has a D-shaped opening extending longitudinally therethrough. The coupling element may be made from a material, e.g., metal, that is harder than the material, e.g., plastic, from which the hand lever is made. The extension of the coupling element protrudes radially outward from the outer circumference of the disk shaped body. The projection is situated outside the disk shaped body of the coupling element and extends upward from the upper surface of the extension in a direction substantially parallel to the D-shaped opening of the disk shaped body. The D-shaped opening allows for ease of manufacturing by using a die having a D-shaped core for molding a hand lever about a coupling element.

  • Patent number: 5870842
Abstract: An animated figure method and apparatus including an animated figure having moveable elements and a base unit for supporting the animated figure. The apparatus of the present invention includes multiple control cables, a first end of each control cable connects to a cable driver assembly or cable driver mounted on the base unit and a second end of each control cable attaches to a corresponding animated figure moveable element or assembly. The cable drivers that are attached to the base unit drive the control cables, and propel the animated figure's moveable elements. The present invention achieves detailed control of many animated figure functions using intricate control cable branching which may require many bends in the control cable. In addition, a walk mechanism provides both horizontal and vertical movement of the animated figure's feet to achieve simulated stepping movements in a very realistic manner.

  • Patent number: 5865562
Abstract: A device for mounting a wide variety of different window dressings is described. The device is intended to use conventional mounting brackets to mount the window dressing without the necessity of providing holes to mount the same in the face of the window molding or frame. The device includes either a comer or linear mounting plate which, respectively, may be used either on the right hand or left hand corner, or horizontally or vertically on the frame. Each plate is U-shaped in cross-section and intended to cover the sides and front of the window frame or molding. The front face of the plate is provided with a plurality of mutually spaced dimensioned cut-outs. The second clement of the invention is a universal clip which is a channel shaped member having integral projections extending from the back surface thereof. The projections are also mutually spaced and dimensioned to register on the cut-outs in the mounting plate and to be received therein to secure the clip to the mounting plate.

  • Patent number: 5865472
Abstract: A compensator 11 comprises a housing 14 and a sliding ram 13, which is displaceable along a sliding seat 17. The sliding ram 13 includes a flow channel portion 21, which transitions into an elbow bend 30, which, in the operating state, i.e., when hot polymer melt flows through the compensator, is congruent with a further flow channel portion 20. The two flow channel portions 20, 21 have flanges 28 and 29 at their end faces for the installation of the compensator 11 at a bend in a melt line through which a polymer felt flows, to compensate for linear expansions of the melt line due to the increased temperature.

  • Patent number: 5862551
Abstract: A bed frame is provided with a base plate. The base plate has a fixed base plate portion secured to the bed frame, a hip plate portion and a back plate portion sequentially and rotatively connected to an end of said fixed base plate portion and a first leg plate portion and a second leg plate portion sequentially and rotatively connected to another end. The back plate portion is arranged to be raised by a back elevating mechanism. When the back plate portion has been raised, the hip plate portion is moved in synchronization with the rotation in the raising direction. At this time, since the back plate portion is raised to make an angle larger than that of the hip plate portion, the hip of a user is not held between the fixed base plate portion and the back plate portion.

  • Patent number: 5860239
Abstract: A merchandise display hook provided with an improved form of pivoting label holder. A label-mounting arm extends above and terminates forwardly of a merchandise display arm. A transversely disposed cross bar is secured to an outer surface portion of the label-mounting arm, spaced from the end extremity thereof, by electric resistance welding. The cross bar provides a pivot mount for a plastic label holding device, with the end extremity of the label mount serving as an abutment stop to limit rearward pivoting movement of the label holder. The cross bar can be so positioned on the label mounting arm as to provide for a normal, slightly upwardly tilted orientation of the label holder, to facilitate viewing. In one embodiment, the outer end of the label mounting arm is bent downwardly, and the cross bar is welded to the downwardly bent portion. In another embodiment, the label mounting arm is straight, and the cross bar is welded to the upper surface thereof, spaced slightly from the outer end face of the arm.

  • Patent number: 5860238
Abstract: An expanded content label (ECL) having a segmented base label that allows the label to conform to a curved surface. A booklet and covering overlaminate are secured to the spaced-apart segments of the base to interconnect the segments. The gap between the segments enhances the ability of the label to flex and move along a supporting curved surface to conform to the surface without buckling or wrinkling. The label is produced by die cutting a web to form a segmented base label, securing a booklet to the segmented base label, and optionally securing an overlaminate to the booklet. At least one of the booklet and the overlaminate bridge the segments of the base label. In an alternative embodiment, the overlaminate is eliminated and the booklet includes a coversheet that extends across the gap between the base label segments.
