  • Patent number: 8023126
Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a main power unit that outputs a first DC power and an auxiliary power unit that outputs a second DC power to the components of the image forming apparatus. The auxiliary power unit includes a rechargeable capacitor. A measuring unit measures performance of the capacitor and a determining unit determines performance insufficiency of the capacitor based on the measured performance and the system configuration of the image forming apparatus. The performance is, for example, changes in a capacitance of the capacitor with time. When the determining unit determines performance insufficiency of the capacitor, a control unit adjusts, for example, a use range of the capacitor.

  • Patent number: 7995243
Abstract: The invention distinguishes not only character areas and halftone dot areas in an image, but also makes highly accurate decisions concerning characters present in halftone dot areas. A decision signal generating unit generates a decision signal having luminance as a main component from a signal indicating inputted image data, and supplies the decision signal to a character decision unit, a halftone dot decision unit, and a character-in-halftone dot decision unit. The character decision unit generates data indicating whether a pixel of interest is inside a character image area. The halftone dot decision unit generates data indicating whether a pixel of interest is inside a halftone dot area. The character-in-halftone dot decision unit generates data indicating whether there is a character image inside the halftone dot area. Based on these three signals, an attribute flag generating unit generates attribute data of the pixel of interest.

  • Patent number: 7990556
Abstract: A device identifier is scanned with a portable scanner and communicated to a service provider. The service provider associates the device with the portable scanner. Information is scanned from a printed source and communicated to the service provider and subsequent information is received in response at a device identified by the device identifier. In some embodiments, a communication session identifier is scanned with a portable scanner and communicated to the service provider rather than (or in cooperation with) the device identifier.

  • Patent number: 7982892
Abstract: This invention controls a printer to download using either a nonsecure protocol or a secure protocol depending on as to whether or not the printer is included in a network segment to which an information processing apparatus generating print control information belongs. When, on an application executed by the apparatus, a desired data file stored in a server on the network is designated as an object to be printed, the apparatus acquires a printer port activated by a printer driver. The apparatus determines whether or not a destination IP address set to the printer port is included in the network segment inside an office. If the IP address is included in the network segment, HTTP is set as a protocol associated with file acquisition which is to be described in a job ticket. If not, HTTPS is set as a protocol associated with file acquisition.

  • Patent number: 7973956
Abstract: A high speed printing method and apparatus are provided, in which provided print data is rendered and a rendered result in response to a print request of the print data is transmitted, and an image of the rendered result is formed, wherein the rendering of the provided print data is performed by a host, and the forming of the image of the rendered result is performed by an image forming device connected to the host. Accordingly, a host performs pre-rendering before a print request is input, and when the print request is input, an image forming device receives the rendered result from the host and prints the rendered result. Thus, the image forming device can perform a printing job at a high speed regardless of the amount of print data.

  • Patent number: 7859714
Abstract: A light emitting device that forms a latent image by irradiating light onto a charged surface of an image carrier. The light emitting device includes an electro-optical substrate that forms an optical image, a focusing lens array that focuses light from the electro-optical substrate to form an erect image of the corresponding optical image on the charged surface, and a frame in which the focusing lens array is fixed. A position determining member, which is formed of resin, is disposed on the frame, comes in contact with a supporting body that supports the image carrier, and determines a distance between the focusing lens array and the image carrier by its own height.

  • Patent number: 7859704
Abstract: In a disclosed image forming apparatus, an original is scanned and image data of the original are obtained. The data size of the image data corresponding to one page of the original is measured. The image data obtained are stored in or deleted from a memory. A storable number of pages of the original that can be stored in the memory is calculated based on the data size measured and available space in the memory. In response to the storable number of pages calculated being less than a total number of pages of the original, the image data of the original is successively stored in and deleted from the memory.

  • Patent number: 7787161
Abstract: An image reading device which is capable of reading out image data on an original while conveying the original in a simple construction. A conveying path has a pair of guide members facing each other at a distance and extending in a conveying direction of an original. An original conveying unit conveys the original along the conveyance path. An image reading unit is comprised of a flexible sheet-like substrate on which a plurality of optical sensors are arranged. The sheet-like substrate is inclined with respect to the conveying direction of the original, and fixed to one of the pair of guide members at one end thereof and abuts against the other of the pair of guide members at the other end thereof. The image reading unit reads image data on one side of the original when the original is conveyed along the conveying path and passes through between the other end of the sheet-like substrate and the other of the pair of guide members.

  • Patent number: 7782503
Abstract: An image reading apparatus reads an image from a document being simultaneously fed by the apparatus. A document feeder unit feeds the document on a original plate. A first image reading unit reads an image from the fed document at a first document-read position on the original plate. A second image reading unit reads an image from the fed document at a second document-read position located at a predetermined distance from the first document-read position in a document feeding direction. An abnormal pixel detection unit detects abnormal pixels resulting from rubbish moved between the first document-read position and second document-read position on the original plate together with the document.

  • Patent number: 7746507
Abstract: Even if a margin area, which did not exist in an original image, is present around a document area in a document acquired by printing the original image, an accurate layout comparison between the scanned image of the printed document and the original image can be performed as follows. An original image serving as a comparison target image is input, and block information about a block included in the original image is extracted. It is determined whether the size of the original image is a predetermined size. When the size is not a predetermined size, block information about the block included in the original image mapped to a predetermined size is created and registered. When a comparison source image is input, block information about a block included in the comparison source image is extracted. Subsequently, two pieces of the block information of the comparison source and target images are compared.

  • Patent number: 7719726
Abstract: There is provided an image reading apparatus for acquiring a read signal of an image by receiving and photoelectrically converting a light reflected from a document. The location of an alien substance on an original plate is detected based on a reflected light received by a light receiving unit adapted to receive a light reflected from a document. When an alien substance is detected, an illumination unit selectively illuminates the location in which the alien substance has been detected. Also, a message which prompts cleaning of the alien substance is displayed. A method of displaying the alien substance location are also provided. Thereby, the image reading apparatus of the present invention can assists a user in cleaning the alien substance such as a dust or dirt on the original plate.
