Patent number: 4426744Abstract: This invention relates to the combination of an outdoor swimming pool and adjustable roof structure mounted so as to extend over the pool and a patio adjacent to the pool. When the roof structure is in a raised position, the pool may be used by bathers, positionally adjustable curtaining extending between the roof structure and a ground area surrounding the pool and patio providing protection against adverse weather conditions. When the roof structure is in a lowered position, it prevents access to the pool, providing a safeguard against small children falling into the pool when it is not being used by adults. Additionally, when the roof structure is in its lowered position, insulating members carried thereby lie directly over the pool, minimizing heat loss therefrom. Desirably, the roof structure or part thereof may be moved to open the pool to the sunshine, while providing shade and protection against wind to non-bathers sojourning on the adjacent patio.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 1979Date of Patent: January 24, 1984Inventor: William Love

Patent number: 4414695Abstract: A generally centrally located, positionable, rotating or stationary hydrotherapeutic multiple jet head for use in a water filled receptacle such as a spa, tub or swimming pool to provide innumerable variations in the jet stream patterns, force, depth and direction relative to an occupant in the water filled receptacle. The device is an air and water jet head having multiple levels of radially oriented jets and position adjustable water and air inlet tubes coupled to said jet head that allow the jet head to be positioned vertically, horizontally and to tilt through a wide range within the receptacle. The user can position the location of the jet head and select the jet stream patterns emanating from the head. A variable speed rotating jet stream feature is also included which provides a soothing wave-like effect. The air and water inlet tubes may connect to the jet heat from below or above. Operating and installation costs are reduced due to simplified piping and shorter jet stream travel distances.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 1981Date of Patent: November 15, 1983Inventor: James F. Hart

Patent number: 4409692Abstract: A garbage-disposal scraper-protector for use with a garbage disposal unit under a sink. A disk fits loosely in a lower portion of the drain opening of the sink and provides a plurality of narrow openings enabling water to flow at all times from the sink into the garbage disposal unit. A stem extends up from the top of the disk and a handle cross-member extends horizontally across the upper end of the stem. The cross-member is long enough to bridge the drain opening and prevent the disk from dropping below the drain opening. A short, flexible scraper is secured to and extends down from the bottom of the disk a distance only slightly below the drain opening and well above the operating portions of the garbage disposal unit. The entire scraper-protector is preferably a single integral molded member of plastic.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 1982Date of Patent: October 18, 1983Inventor: Virginia V. Ness

Patent number: 4408361Abstract: A diverter valve for a fluid storage tank such as the storage tank of a water closet is disclosed. In one embodiment, the diverter valve has a housing with an inlet passage for receiving a supply of water and a pair of outlet passages. One of the outlet passages delivers pressurized water from the diverter valve to the storage tank, and the other outlet passage delivers the pressurized water to a diversion conduit connected to the toilet bowl rim. The diverter valve also includes a movable flap mounted within the diverter valve which moves to proportion the flow of water between the two outlet passages in response to changes in the water level of the tank. The flap is initially positioned to direct water to the tank when the tank water level is high. The flap is then moved by a water level sensor such as a float to direct water to the bowl rim when the water level in the storage tank has dropped below a pre-determined diversion level. Flow to the bowl rim continues even after the tank has emptied.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 1982Date of Patent: October 11, 1983Assignee: Kohler Co.Inventor: Roy J. Rozek

Patent number: 4407029Abstract: A reclining platform for bathtub units has a rectangular-shaped reclining platform and four hinged plates joined to the side edges of said reclining platform by means of hinges. The hinges are equipped with springs that press the hinged plates into the same plane as the base plate. The hinged plates can pivot upwards against the tension of the built-in springs. The entire reclining platform has a mat, which forms wedges at the corner recesses between each two hinged plates. The mat consists of a flexible material. The reclining platform covers the entire length of the bathtub, without folds, when the unit is in raised position. When the unit is lowered, the hinged plates abut tightly against the tub walls, and the wedges are folded up and close off the rounded corners of the walls as well. The new unit ensures that handicapped persons cannot get caught.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 1982Date of Patent: October 4, 1983Inventor: Peter Schmidt

Patent number: 4404695Abstract: A conventional shaped, generally oval, toilet seat assembly having a toilet seat lid with an aft extension which houses a spring-latch bolt mechanism and a common axle which serves to hold the lid, and toilet seat, and the companion anchor bolt lock-block assemblies and hinges together. A single removable compression spring exerts a constant outward pressure on the latch bolts in the lid extension which interface with and are forced against the inside surface of the companion anchor bolt lock-blocks. When the lid is moved to the horizontal (down) position the latch bolts are aligned with and automatically extend from the lid into the matching latch bolt holes in the anchor bolt lock-bolt assembly. The lid and seat remain in the down and locked position until the latch bolts are retracted.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1981Date of Patent: September 20, 1983Inventor: Howard C. Camp
