Abstract: A medical aspirator including an aspiration port, a reciprocating type electric pump for performing vacuum aspiration, a ventilation path which connects the aspiration port and the electric pump, an exhaust port, and an atmospheric pressure obtaining release valve for releasing a negative pressure in the ventilation path to obtain atmospheric pressure therein. The medical aspirator is particularly useful for percutaneous thrombus removal operation. A diaphragm pump is used as the electric pump. An electromagnetic valve is used as the atmospheric pressure obtaining release valve. The atmospheric pressure obtaining release valve is opened and closed in association with stopping and starting of the electric pump. A cell is provided as an internal power supply.

Abstract: Absorbent articles which provide superior protection against wet through under impact or sustained pressure, and high convective air flow therethrough for skin health and comfort benefits. In particular, an absorbent article comprising an absorbent core and an absorbent barrier structure, wherein the absorbent barrier structure has a hydrohead value of at least about 10 mBars; a convective air permeability of at least about 10 Darcy/mm; and a liquid impact transmission value of less than about 20 g/m2.

Abstract: A disposable sanitary absorbent article such as an absorbent pad (e.g., male guard) is provided which is defined by opposed lateral sides and opposed longitudinal sides extending between said lateral side, comprising a topsheet, a backsheet and an absorbent core disposed therebetween having opposed lateral sides and opposed longitudinal sides extending between said lateral sides of said absorbent core, an adhesive layer attached to said backsheet and a release paper strip covering the adhesive layer. The longitudinal sides or edges of the pad define side flaps outwardly relative to the longitudinal sides of the absorbent core, and at least two spaced apart elastic members are secured along each longitudinal side flap, with each elastic member having two active ends, at least one of which is located outwardly relative to the corresponding end of the adhesive layer.

The passage (18) has an outlet (22) at a free end of the barrel (14), a portion of the passage (18) being curved. The device (10) also includes an ejector or plunger (30) which can be displaced along the passage (18) to push a non-flowable object or medicament received in the passage (18) out of the passage (18) through the outlet (22) thereof.

Abstract: A binder for supporting the abdomen, back, ribs or breasts includes an H-shaped elongated band with an inner surface and an outer surface. The H-shaped elongated band includes a central panel, a first extension member and second extension member extending from an upper portion of and contiguous with the central panel and a third extension member and a fourth extension member extending from a lower portion of and contiguous with the central panel. The inner surface of the central panel is positioned adjacent to a portion of a user's body and a first slit on the first extension member is adapted to receive the second extension member, and a second slit on the third extension member is adapted to receive the fourth extension member thereby securing the binder on the user's body via fastening members positioned on each of the extension members.

Abstract: A collecting bag is provided with a vent aperture to allow for escape of gases which may accumulate in the bag during use. The vent aperture is formed in an extension member that is connected with the bag member. In order to bring the vent aperture from a fully open condition to a fully closed condition, the extension member is folded at least once along a folding line, thereby bringing a first engagement surface into engagement with a second engagement surface. A net element may be positioned between the inlet opening of the bag member and the extension member and a filter device may be positioned within the extension member.

Abstract: A disposable diaper includes antislip elements having a frictional force higher than those of end flaps and side flaps. These antislip elements are attached to portions of the end flap extending immediately outside transversely opposite ends of a waist elastic member on the side of these portions facing away from the diaper wearer's skin. The waist elastic member is, in turn, attached to the end flap.

Abstract: Sample collection assemblies and methods that use a collection wand having a working end and an operating end, a collection tube having a barrel portion, an assay chamber, and a partition member, with the working end of the collection wand having a scoop configured for collecting a predetermined sample volume, and with the partition member having an orifice with a boundary complementary to a cross-section of the scoop, whereby an excess of sample material can be excluded from entering the assay chamber.

Abstract: A formulation effective in reducing the pH in a menstruating vagina or in a tampon inserted therein to below pH 5.5, comprising (a) 3–80% by weight of a solid organic acid polymer; (b) 92–15% by weight of a solid organic acid; and (c) 5–30% of a wetting agent. Also disclosed is a delivery system for releasing an active agent comprising: (a) a deposition comprising the active agent; and (b) a polymeric support on which the deposition is deposited. The delivery system is especially useful in a catamenial tampon for insertion in a human vagina which comprises (a) an inner core comprising an absorbent material; (b) an outer layer comprising a liquid permeable material; and (c) the delivery system.

Abstract: An open-type disposable wearing article composed of a front waist region, a rear waist region and a crotch region. These regions are all elastically stretchable. The article includes first and second stretchable zones respectively bifurcated at a transverse middle of the crotch region so as to extend to lateral zones of the front and rear waist regions, respectively, and third stretchable zones defined by zones other than the first and second stretchable zones. The first and second stretchable zones exhibit a stretch stress higher than a stretch stress of the third stretchable zones. Loop members are provided to the second stretchable zone in the lateral zones of the rear waist region and hook members are provided to the first stretchable zone in the lateral zones of the front waist region.

Abstract: A disposable diaper includes a backsheet comprising an elastic inner layer and an inelastic outer layer. The elastic inner layer, in a transversely stretched state, is joined to the inelastic outer layer at a plurality of intermittently disposed spots. The spots are lined up to form a series of imaginary lines disposed on a bias between the longitudinal and transverse directions of the disposable diaper. In each of areas between the spots, defined by a plurality of intersecting imaginary lines that pass through a plurality of the spots that are closely arranged in succession, the inelastic outer layer is free to separate from the elastic inner layer upon contraction (relaxation) of the elastic inner layer, and thereupon the outer layer forms a plurality of longitudinal pleats. The pleats, formed by relaxing the transversely stretched inner layer, are disposed in a direction that is substantially normal to the direction of stretching.

The alarm module comprises an alarm, a magnetically-actuated switch, and a power source. The alarm module is attachable to a first surface of the fluid receptacle and the magnetic field source is attachable to a second surface of the fluid receptacle. A fluid quantity is receivable intermediate the first and second receptacle surfaces for adjusting the distance intermediate the first and second receptacle surfaces. The magnetic field source actuates the switch when a select alarm activation distance is adjustably met. The actuated switch electrically communicates the power source with the alarm. The energized alarm alerts a user to the fluid quantity in the fluid receptacle.

Abstract: A disposable pants-type diaper includes a front waist region sheet, a rear waist region sheet and a body fluid absorbent pad. The front and rear waist region sheets are bonded together in the vicinity of transversely opposite side edges thereof and the pad is curved in a U-shape and has longitudinally opposite ends bonded to the inner side of the front and rear waist region sheets. Periphery of a lower edge of the front waist region sheet draws a curve which is convex upward and this-lower edge intersects transversely opposite side edges of the pad to define tops of a pair of leg-holes. A first elastic member extending along the lower edge of the front waist region sheet intersects third elastic members of the pad in the vicinity of the tops and then descend rearward of the diaper.

Each backsheet strip may include a water-impermeable layer and may be extensible. A longitudinally extending elastic gathering member is attached to each side flap adjacent to its proximal edge. When the article is worn, the elastic gathering members contract and raise the side flaps to form side barriers. The absorbent assembly includes an absorbent core that may contain superabsorbent particles, which may be contained inside pockets. A portion of the absorbent assembly such as the portion that lies between the backsheet strip attachment zones may be extensible and may include a water-impermeable layer.
