  • Patent number: 6868894
Abstract: A molding machine for providing flaskless molds comprising a drag flask (4) and a cope flask (3) is provided with a core setter (40) for placing cores in upwardly facing cavities of a mold located in the drag flask (4). The core setter (40) comprises a core mask (45) with pockets (49) selectively operable to hold and release cores (50), said core mask being supported by a holder (55) that is pivotally journalled around a horizontal axis to swing between a core-releasing position and a core-loading position. The core mask (45) faces downwardly towards the mold when it is in the core-releasing position and faces laterally away from said mold when it is in the core-loading position. The drag flask (4) is arranged to be movable in a substantially horizontal direction to and from a core-setting position directly under the core mask (45) in its core-releasing position. The drag flask (4) is arranged to be movable upwards to and downwards from the core mask (45) when it is in the core-setting position.

  • Patent number: 6860418
Abstract: A method for making a bonding tool is provided. The bonding tool includes a three dimensional surface configuration which is a mirror image of a three dimensional surface configuration of a circuit card assembly (CCA). The method includes creating a mirror image of the three dimensional surface configuration of the CCA. After producing the three dimensional surface configuration of the CCA, the method then produces a bonding tool surface with the mirror image of the three dimensional surface configuration. The mirror image of the three dimensional surface configuration isolates delicate components of the CCA during bonding and re-bonding operations of the CCA using the bonding tool.

  • Patent number: 6824037
Abstract: The present invention solves a problem with a wire bonding device, that during a wire bonding process, a cover at the periphery of a working hole warps upward to cause inadvertent sparking to occur across the cover that has warped upwards and a torch electrode. This invention's bonding device 21 provided with recognition device is characterized in that insulation treatment is applied to a part 231 of a cover 23 positioned at the periphery of a working hole 24. The interior of a working region is kept, for example, at 230° C. by a heater 30 inside a setting base 22, and by being placed under high temperature constantly, a part 471 of cover 23 warps upwards. However, since insulation treatment is applied to part 231 of cover 23, a bonding device can be realized with which inadvertent sparking between a torch electrode 28 will not occur.

  • Patent number: 6799712
Abstract: A system is disclosed for determining optimal process settings for a conveyor oven, such as a reflow oven used to reflow solder paste on a PCB assembly. According to a disclosed embodiment, an ideal temperature profile is obtained from the solder paste specifications of the solder paste to be reflowed in the oven. The ideal temperature profile of the paste includes a preheat phase, a soak phase, a reflow phase and a cooling phase. One or more profiles that fit the oven are obtained by aligning the beginning of each phase of the ideal profile with a forward end of an oven zone. The profile that best fits the oven is selected as a target profile for the reflow soldering process. The set points of the oven zones for effecting the target profile when the solder paste is conveyed through the oven are determined.

  • Patent number: 6786392
Abstract: An object is to reduce impact load applied on a bonding subject at the time of wire contact detection and achieve a stable and highly precise fabrication of a bonding ball so as to shorten the bonding time. A wire bonding arm comprises: a Z driving shaft supported by a Z-axis base capable of swinging via a first shaft; and a low pressurizing shaft with a smaller inertia than that of the Z driving shaft having a capillary, which is supported on one end of the Z driving shaft to be capable of swinging via a second shaft. The capillary is brought down by the Z driving shaft to the position of the height right before an initial ball comes to contact with a first bonding point. Then, only the low pressurizing shaft is driven at low speed to be brought down while holding the Z driving shaft in position. At the point where the initial ball comes in contact with the first bonding point, a prescribed weight and ultrasonic vibrations are applied for bonding it to the first bonding point.

  • Patent number: 6759623
Abstract: A torch head having a base section, a tip section and three or more radial rods connected between the base section and the tip section. The radial rods form a generally circular inner chamber which inner chamber includes an electrode. One or more of the radial rods has an inner passageway to convey one or more shielding gasses and/or one or more cooling fluids from the base section to the tip section of the torch head. The cooling fluid cools at least a portion of the torch head. The shielding gas is directed about the electrode and onto the weld metal to improve the quality of the weld bead. One or more of the radial rods function as support structures to enhance the strength and the rigidity of the torch head. The tip section of the torch head is designed to direct the one or more shielding gas in a desired profile about the electrode and onto the weld metal. The tip section includes an electrical contact that form an electrical connection with the electrode as the electrode passes through the tip section.
