Patent number: 4545530Abstract: A fuel injection nozzle for internal combustion engines having an inwardly opening valve needle (I nozzle) is proposed, in which an induction coil is disposed in the closing spring chamber, the induction coil together with an armature influenced by the valve needle forming a signal transducer for a measuring appliance for detecting the onset of injection and further data, as needed, of the injection process. The air gap of the magnetic circuit of the induction coil is formed between the armature and a coil, toward which the armature moves during the opening stroke of the valve needle. As a result, it is possible to attain a small initial air gap and a large change, in terms of percentage, in the air gap. The apparatus according to the invention is particularly suitable for measuring circuits in which a direct voltage is applied to the induction coil and the voltages induced as a result of the air gap changes in the induction coil are superimposed on the applied direct voltage.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1984Date of Patent: October 8, 1985Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Karl Hofmann, Dietrich Trachte

Patent number: 4541568Abstract: A safety spray wand with a selectively adjustable or interchangeable tip. The wand will selectively provide a high pressure or a low pressure discharge from a discharge tube. The wand has a handle with a pistol grip in combination with a large squeeze trigger. The pistol grip is extended and is molded around a receiving tube that projects downwardly from a discharge tube to thereby form a safety protection guard for an operator's hand while protecting the trigger from accidently being actuated. The receiving tube not only serves as a guard but also as a conduit to which a pressure source is attached and through which the fluid is directed to the discharge tube.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 1982Date of Patent: September 17, 1985Inventor: William H. Patent number: 4535939Abstract: A fuel injection nozzle for supplying fuel to an internal combustion engine includes a valve member biased by a spring to a closed position and movable to an open position by fuel under pressure supplied to an inlet of the nozzle. The opening of the valve member is initially assisted by fuel under pressure supplied to an inlet of the nozzle. The opening of the valve member is initially assisted by fuel under pressure acting upon a piston. A stop limits the movement of the piston so that the remaining movement of the valve member is due only to the fuel pressure acting on the valve member.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 1983Date of Patent: August 20, 1985Assignee: Lucas Industries Public Limited CompanyInventor: Robert T. Patent number: 4532996Abstract: An automatic fire extinguisher and alarm apparatus, particularly suitable for use with waste receptacles, which discharges fire extinguisher fluid when exposed to a fire and sounds an audible alarm. Fire extinguisher fluid is quickly discharged from a reservoir onto the fire when heat from the fire melts a fusible alloy plug. A second reservoir contains a partially gaseous alarm agent, and is connected through a valve to a vibrating diaphragm gas horn. The valve stem is connected to a diaphragm separating the two reservoirs. When pressure is lost in the first reservoir upon discharge of the fire extinguisher fluid, the pressure of the alarm agent in the second reservoir moves the diaphragm and valve stem and opens the valve, allowing alarm agent to be discharged through the gas horn, raising an audible alarm.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 1983Date of Patent: August 6, 1985Assignee: The University of New MexicoInventors: Christopher W. Patent number: 4527740Abstract: A hose-end sprayer includes a linearly actuated valve such as a poppet valve that is opened by means of pressure applied thereto from a pivoted lever. The lever and valve provide instant on and off action and one-handed control over the water flow. Pressurized water containing a mixed chemical is supplied to a spray defining nozzle in a closed system that maintains the water under full pressure until after it emerges from the nozzle. By preventing contact between the water and air until the spray pattern is formed, better definition of the pattern is obtained and nozzle drip is eliminated.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 1982Date of Patent: July 9, 1985Assignee: Chevron Research CompanyInventors: Rudolph M. Patent number: 4522338Abstract: A self-propelled irrigation system that is fully automated to irrigate regular and irregular shapes of land. The system includes a self powered cart and hose connection system by which access is made to various points along the length of a water supply main. The cart is powered to move along a prescribed path defined by a ground mounted electrical conductor wire. The cart will follow the path defined by the wire and perform various functions at points along the length of the conductor as initiated by signal emitters located along the path. Throughout the irrigation sequence, hose connection and disconnection, the entire hose length is kept suspended above the ground surface as not to interfere with the adjacent crop. Several sprinklers on the cart frame are independently controlled to produce an even application of water over the prescribed ground area. This is done by selectively varying the rotational speed of the sprinklers.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 1982Date of Patent: June 11, 1985Inventor: Christopher G. Williams
