  • Patent number: 5931054
Abstract: A flexible meshing type gear drive 1 has a rigid internal gear 2 and a flexible external gear 3 whose tooth profiles are defined as follows. First, initial tooth profiles of these gears 2, 3 are defined as in the case that the tooth number of the rigid internal gear is 102 and that of the flexible external gear is 100. The initial tooth profile is adopted as it is for that of the rigid internal gear 2. While, the actual tooth profile of the flexible external gear 3 is determined by thinning out one tooth at every one tooth from the external teeth 34-1, 2, 3, . . . of the initial tooth profile to form tooth bottom portions connecting the respective remaining external teeth 34-1, 3, 5, . . . .

  • Patent number: 5921886
Abstract: In an automatic transmission, torque shocks are effectively reduced in specific downshifting conditions where relatively strong engine braking occurs as a result of downshifting. When a downshift command to the automatic transmission is detected when an accelerator pedal is not depressed, a valve opening command is issued to a throttle valve so that engine output will have increased by the time the downshifting action of the automatic transmission actually begins, ignition timing is delayed so that an increase in engine output resulting from the opening of the throttle valve by a throttle valve control means is offset for a period starting at the time the engine output actually increases as a result of the opening of the throttle valve by the throttle valve control means and ending at the time the downshifting action of the automatic transmission actually beings, and the ignition timing delaying is cancelled upon initiation of the downshifting action of the automatic transmission.

  • Patent number: 5904633
Abstract: The continuously variable transmission (CVT) includes an input shaft delivering power from an engine, an output shaft having a first drive member, and a secondary shaft having a first driven member operationally connected with the first drive member. The CVT further includes a pulley member transferring power from the input shaft to the secondary shaft. The pulley member includes a drive pulley and a driven pulley operationally connected to the drive pulley. The pulley member forms a first power pathway for communicating the engine power from the input shaft to the output shaft via the secondary shaft. The CVT also includes a power by-pass member for selectively supplying power from the input shaft directly to the output shaft to form a second power pathway for communicating the engine power from the input shaft directly to the output shaft which by-passes the first power pathway.

  • Patent number: 5899828
Abstract: An engine control apparatus for a hybrid vehicle reduces a shock and improves the fuel consumption rate when an engine is under a fuel cut control at the time of reducing a speed through an operation of a brake pedal. In case that all conditions are fulfilled, that is, the fuel cut control, the speed reduction of not less than a predetermined level, and the non-full charge state of a battery, the program locks an intake valve and an exhaust valve in full open position and carries out a regenerative control with a generator 14. This procedure enables a cylinder to be connected with an intake air conduit and an exhaust conduit via the passages of the intake valve and the exhaust valve, thereby preventing compression of a gas in the cylinder and effectively reducing friction.

  • Patent number: 5879261
Abstract: A two-stage planetary gear unit with a fixed gear case contains a first stage planet carrier, and a second stage planet carrier. The first stage planet carrier has a first set of rotatably mounted planet wheels and a first pinion that meshes with the first planet wheels. The second stage planet carrier is formed as a one-piece component that is mounted in the gear case and supports the first stage planet carrier. Rotatably mounted within the second stage planet carrier is a second set of two planetary wheels. Furthermore, a second pinion is housed within the second stage planet carrier and meshes with the second set of planetary wheels. There are rolling contact bearings housed within fixed gear case to support the second stage planet carrier. A clamping ring is inserted into the fixed gear case and braces two of the roller contact bearings next to each other.
