  • Patent number: 5226338
Abstract: A vehicle compound change gear transmission is provided that features an auxiliary drive gear (24) carried by a mainshaft (20) having enhanced freedom of radial movement by eliminating all radial contact between a bearing member that resiliently supports mainshaft (20) for rotation relative to a stationary housing of the transmission by utilizing prescribed spacer member combinations.

  • Patent number: 5218882
Abstract: The hub body has an annular support region, spacer regions on either side of the support region, and threaded regions at the axial ends. Each threaded region has an axially extending slot. First and second cam rings, which each have an inner opening with an effective diameter that is less than the outer diameter of the support region and substantially equal to the outer diameter of the spacer regions, are situated in respective spacer regions in abutting relationship with respective sides of the support ring. Respective first and second spacer rings having inner diameters substantially equal to those of the cams, are also situated in the spacer region in abutting relationship with the cams, so that each cam is sandwiched between one side of the support region and a spacer ring. Each spacer ring has a tab or key member projecting radially inwardly from the spacer ring inner diameter into the slot.

  • Patent number: 5157989
Abstract: A shift control system for controlling the shifting of a vehicular automatic transmission including a plurality of frictional engagement members and having a plurality of engage/release combinations of the frictional engagement members for setting a predetermined one of gear stages. The shift control system comprises: a changer for effecting a change-over between an automatic shift mode for shifting the automatic transmission automatically on the basis of the running condition of the vehicle and a manual shift mode for shifting the same manually on the basis of the manipulation of the driver; and an engage/release pattern selector for selecting, in the manual shift mode, an engage/release combination of the frictional engagement members, which is different from the combination selected in the automatic shift mode, as that for setting the predetermined gear stage.

  • Patent number: 5042329
Abstract: A shift valve which controls the shifting of the transmission between the top speed and the next lower one is arranged to have a port which is communicable with an overrunning clutch viz a relatively short conduit arrangement. The port is arranged to be constantly supplied with line pressure while the manual valve is set in any of the forward drive ranges, and to be communicated with the conduit when the shift valve is supplied with a top speed inhibit signal and induced to assume its downshift position.

  • Patent number: 4966574
Abstract: A transaxle having five forward speeds and reverse includes a shift shaft on which are journalled for free rotation four forward speed change gears and an input bevel gears which is integrally conjoined with a first speed change gear. A reverse gear is also journalled for free rotation on the shift shaft and a neutral spacer is disposed between reverse gear and the four forward gears. A counter shaft carries five companion spur gears in constant running mesh with the forward speed change gears. One of the companion gears is also in constant running mesh with a reverse intermediate gear which is in constant running mesh with the reverse gear. The reverse intermediate gear is supported by a half-bearing in the transaxle housing. A pair of axially slidable and radially outward biased shift keys on the shift shaft selectively couple the forward speed change gears, the input bevel gear, and the reverse gear to the shift shaft.
