  • Patent number: 6637715
Abstract: A break-away vehicle exterior rearview mirror system which is suitable for use in a vehicle, includes an exterior rearview mirror assembly including a movable portion and a fixed portion, which is adapted for mounting the movable portion to a vehicle. The movable portion includes a reflective element housed in a movable portion. An exterior rearview mirror assembly further includes a pivot member with the movable portion being pivotally mounted to the fixed portion by the pivot member for pivoting about a pivot axis from a normal operating position to a break-away position closer to the side of the vehicle. The fixed portion includes a first engagement element, with the movable portion including a second engagement element. Either the movable portion or the fixed portion generates resilient force, with the engagement elements being urged into releasable engagement with each other by the resilient force to thereby engage the movable portion with the fixed portion about the pivot axis.

  • Patent number: 6631877
Abstract: A surveying equipment support leg used with a support for supporting surveying equipment and the like is capable of mounting alternate ground engaging structures without removal of an existing foot on the leg. Attachment of the alternate structure is made rigidly at two points of connection on the foot. Other accessories such as weights to hold down the support can be attached. In particular, a spike may be attached to deeply penetrate the ground for use in certain soil conditions. The foot is molded and accurately adhered to the leg. As used together with other legs in a support, the foot is capable of attaching the legs together in a collapsed position for storage and transport of the support. The leg is connected to a head of the support in a sealed hinge which prevents damage to the hinge resulting in loss of rigid stability to the support.

  • Patent number: 6619602
Abstract: A gate support system for the free end of a swinging gate. The system can be secured to the free end of an existing gate or it may be included as an integral part of the gate at the time of manufacture. The system includes (a) an elongated support; (b) a foot member carried by the support member and being vertically moveable relative to the support member between raised and lowred positions; (c) bias means for biasing the foot member to the raised position; and (d) a lock for locking the foot member in a desired vertical position relative to the support member. When the gate has been pivoted to a desired position, the foot member can be pushed downwardly until it rests firmly on the ground. The lock will hold the foot member in a lowered position where it will support the weight of the free end of the gate. A trigger can be activated to release the lock and enable the foot member to move to a raised position.

  • Patent number: 6607171
Abstract: For stamping shelf supporting brackets of an overall L-shaped configuration from band material (13), the cutting lines are so arranged that one cut generates the upper edges (6) of two adjacent brackets rotated by 180° with respect to each other, and the subsequent cut generates the lower edges (14) of those two brackets which are contiguous to each other at this location. The cantilever portion (4) of each bracket has its free end provided with a hook portion (5) which projects from the upper edge (6) and in use serves for retaining the respective shelf. At the opposite end, the upper edge (6) of the cantilever portion (4) has a notch (7) which is shaped complementarily with respect to that part of the hook portion (5) which projects above the upper edge (6). In the stamping process, the size of waste clippings (15) is reduced by having the hook portion (5) of one bracket extend into the notch (7) of the adjacent bracket.

  • Patent number: 6572061
Abstract: An adjustable base structure supports a person in an upright attitude on uneven terrain and comprises a plate and multiple legs independently pivotally connected to the plate. When in an operative mode, the legs diverge from each other and from the plate and rest on the terrain to orient the plate horizontally. A cable connects the legs and maintains them in the operative mode. A bushing on the plate receives a post of a carrier that is attached to a seat. When the carrier post is in the bushing, the person can sit upright regardless of the contour of the terrain. A dome-shaped pad is joined to each leg for swiveling in a manner that accommodates the terrain and that supports the adjustable base structure in soft soil. Different lengths of the cable are storable inside one of the legs to adjustably limit the amount of pivoting of the legs.
