  • Patent number: 6613359
Abstract: Optically-activated fixed particles for use in cosmetic, toiletries, or pharmaceutical preparations. The optically-activated fixed particles include a plurality of substrate particles and a fluorescent compound fixed to each of the plurality of substrate particles to form integral units in the form of optically-activated fixed particles for reducing the visual perception of skin imperfections, including cellulite, shadows, skin discolorations, wrinkles, and mild scars. Each of the optically-activated fixed particles are optionally encapsulated with a transparent or translucent coating.

  • Patent number: 6335037
Abstract: A cosmetic containing spherical hydrophobic fine silica particles having an average particle diameter of from 0.01 to 5 &mgr;m, having been made more highly hydrophobic, is provided. The spherical hydrophobic fine silica particles have been made hydrophobic on their surfaces by introducing an R2SiO3/2 unit (wherein R2 represents a monovalent hydrocarbon group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms) to the surfaces of hydrophilic fine silica particles having an SiO2 unit, and further have been made more highly hydrophobic on their surfaces by introducing to the surfaces of the hydrophobic fine silica particles first treated an R13SiO1/2 unit (wherein R1's may be the same or different and each represent a monovalent hydrocarbon group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms). The cosmetic containing spherical hydrophobic fine silica particles is a product improved in spreadability and inunctionability.

  • Patent number: 6303794
Abstract: This invention relates to water-soluble/dispersible reactive functionalized imido and polyimido compounds, wherein the polyimido compounds may be selected from the group consisting of polysuccinimide compounds, polyglutimide compounds, and copolymers of thereof. The polyimido compound comprises a functionalizing moiety F that provides functionality to the polyimido compound and is preferably derived from a nucleophilic moiety selected from the group consisting of amines, alcohols, phenols, thiols, and carboxylates; and a water-solubilizing/dispersing moiety that provides water-solubility and/or water-dispersibility to the polyimido compound and is preferably derived from a nucleophilic moiety selected from the group consisting of amines, alcohols, phenols, thiols, and carboxylates. The invention also pertains to a proteinaceous substrate to which the imido or polyimido compound has been covalently bonded and to a method for treating a proteinaceous substrate with the imido or polyimido compound.
