Abstract: Zinc oxide and/or zinc carbonate coated particles, methods of coating particles with zinc oxide and/or zinc carbonate, and various applications of such coated particles, including applications in cosmetics, rubber, and other polymer materials, are disclosed. As compared to rubber formulations with zinc oxide and core materials added separately, formulations including the present coated particles may have a higher transparency, lower Mooney viscosity and lower minimum torque, improved dispersability, a higher modulus at 100% and/or at 300% elongation, a higher tensile strength, better aging resistance, better abrasion resistance, lower density, and/or lower heat build up. Thus, products containing the present coated particles may enjoy similar or better properties than comparative products that include a conventional filler and/or zinc oxide per se, and the present coated particles may result in cost savings for the corresponding product formulations.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to the provision of premixed aqueous compositions which are used to provide a paint composition of varying finish characteristics at the point of sale. Thus, the merchant distributing the paint composition made from the subject premixed compositions need only maintain inventory of four compositions. The particular compositions which are the subject of the invention exhibit stable characteristics during storage in their respective reservoirs. The compositions include a pigment composition, a dispersant thickening agent, a high resin content binder, and a low resin content binder. The compositions are combined in differing amounts to produce paint compositions being suitable for either interior or exterior use and having differing sheens, quality levels, and color bases.
Abstract: This invention is directed to a method of preserving polymer emulsions against biodeteriogenic microbe attack and spoilage by combining with the polymer emulsions selected cationic compounds and an ethylenediamine acid compound. The polymer emulsions contain surfactants and/or anionic constituents. It is also directed to polymer emulsion compositions, that are resistant to spoilage by biodeteriogenic microbes, containing surfactants and/or anionic constituents, an ethylenediamine acid compound, and cationic compounds.
Abstract: The invention relates to a redispersible polymer powder including a polymer to be redispersed and an ortho-cresol based condensation polymer or salt thereof and methods for manufacturing same. More particularly, the invention relates to the use of an ortho-cresol based condensation polymer as a redispersing aid in a redispersible polymer powder.
Abstract: A paint manufacturing method includes receiving each of a group of fluid prepaints at different inputs of a fluid component mixing system, determining at a computer system a first fluid prepaint ratio, and mixing the fluid prepaints in accordance with the first ratio to form a base paint at an output of the mixing system. A paint manufacturing system includes a computer-controlled prepaint mixing system. The prepaint mixing system includes multiple fluid inputs providing for computer-controllable flow of prepaints into the mixing system. The computer system includes a memory storing software instructions that configured the computer system to receive user input selecting a base paint to be produced, determine a ratio of fluid prepaints needed to produce the base paint, and regulate each fluid flow control to establish, in the determined ratio, a flow of fluid prepaints entering the fluid mixing system.
