  • Patent number: 10149018
Abstract: A remote node system with an amplitude modulation (AM) star architecture is formed between a remote node and a plurality of field nodes split from the remote CCAP node. In embodiments, an R-CCAP node can be combined with amplitude modulation (AM) optics in a star architecture for building low power nodes, supporting set top box (STB) out of band (OOB) signals, and increasing system bandwidth (BW). The remote node can be implemented in media content delivery networks, such as a hybrid fiber-coax HFC network or evolving radio frequency over glass (RFoG) networks.

  • Patent number: 9986299
Abstract: A scheduled programming recommendation system narrows down a user's electronic program guide to a short list of about a dozen recommended programs. The list is customized to the user's own interests according to a point scoring algorithm that compares program data with data from the user's viewing history. The content receiver is programmed to offer alternatives to users while engaged in a program, or within a short time interval near the end of a program. If the user switches to another ongoing program, there is an option to start the new program at the beginning. This option is made possible by a feature of the scheduled programming recommendation system that automatically records recommended programs in a background memory location, separate from the user's recorder memory space. Only recommended programs are automatically recorded. Access to recorded content is provided exclusively via the recommended list.

  • Patent number: 9948984
Abstract: Network devices provide, to a content source device, an uplink user interface to describe and upload video content. The network devices receive, via the uplink user interface, descriptive information for the video content and generate, based on the descriptive information received via the uplink user interface, a unique content identifier for the video content. The network devices incorporate, based on the descriptive information, a listing of the video content into a catalog of content available to users of a content distribution network. The network devices receive, from the content source device, the video content and receive, from a user device, a request to view the video content that includes the unique content identifier. The network devices provide, to the user device, a link to enable the user device to access the video content via the content distribution network.

  • Patent number: 9854290
Abstract: These teachings concern smart insertion of advertisements in a video, and specifically include selecting locations in a video to place such advertisements. For a specific video there is determined an integer number k of locations for advertisements when streaming the specific video to a specific user that requests the specific video. A set of advertisements is selected to deliver with the specific video, and user feedback is utilized to determine an integer number k of discrete locations within the specific video at which to place advertisements of the set. The specific video is electronically or optically delivered to the specific user, with the set of advertisements dispersed among the k discrete locations for rendering on a local display device.

  • Patent number: 9402111
Abstract: Television transmissions are received at multiple locations across a large area. Advertisements are identified, harvested and tagged from within in the television transmissions. The advertisements are made into smaller representations (“fingerprinted”) and are assigned identifiers and media plans are determined for the advertisements. Smart TVs use the advertisement representations to identify advertisements in television content received by the smart TVs. The smart TVs report the advertisement identifiers and identifiers of shows in the television content received by the smart TVs. The television content and advertisements as rendered by the smart TVs are categorized as live, timeshifted, on-demand, over-the-top, and the like. The advertisements are categorized as occurring in national or regional ad slots. The data from the smart TVs is used to determine ad impressions, gross rating points, and target rating points.

  • Patent number: 9396480
Abstract: A device receives, from a client device, a first request associated with target audience criteria and a time constraint. Based on the target audience criteria, the device sends, to an information device, a network state request. In response to the network state request, the device receives, from the information device, a network state response including user data associated with user devices. Based on the network state response, the device determines a predicted network state, including predicted user data associated with the user devices, associated with the time constraint. Based on the predicted network state and the target audience criteria, the device determines a predicted quantity of user devices associated with both the target audience criteria and the time constraint. The device sends, to the client device, a first response based on the determination of the predicted quantity of user devices.
