  • Patent number: 7244236
Abstract: A specimen trap including a container forming a chamber. A strainer is fixedly positioned within the chamber and defines an upper portion of the chamber and a lower portion of the chamber. The strainer has a porous surface that provides fluidic communication between the upper portion and the lower portion. One tube connection is mounted to the cap and forms a passage through the cap and another tube extends through the cap and through the strainer into the lower portion. The cap is rotatable with respect to the container to form communication between one of the specimen compartments and the one tube connection passage for collection of an independent specimen.

  • Patent number: 7235055
Abstract: A sampling device (10) characterised by a male portion comprising a male base portion (12) and a sample removal means (30), and a female portion comprising a first female base portion (14) and a sample container (16), the sample removal means (30) being removably located on the male base portion (12) and the sample container (16) being removably located at least in part within the first female base portion (14), wherein as the male and female portions are brought together the sample removal means (30) collects a biological sample (47) from an animal being tagged, is received through the first female base portion (14), and lodges in the sample container (16), this action in turn introducing the sample to a sample receiving space (74) within the sample container (16), pushing the sample container (16) from the first female base portion, and sealing the sample receiving space (74), the sample removal means (30) being provided with an amount of sample preparative or preservative (45) that is available to the samp

  • Patent number: 7179232
Abstract: A bone marrow sampling device is provided, including an outer cannula having a sidewall with a plurality of openings and a distal tissue penetrating tip. An inner cannula is positioned within the outer cannula, and includes a sidewall with at least one opening. Selective relative movement of the inner cannula and the outer cannula enables the device to be configured in multiple bone marrow sampling modes in which the at least one opening in the sidewall of the inner cannula is aligned with different openings in the sidewall of the outer cannula such that bone marrow can be drawn into the inner lumen of the inner cannula from different radial and longitudinal positions external to the sidewall of the outer cannula without the need to reposition the outer cannula.

  • Patent number: 7169114
Abstract: A device and method for the obtaining a tissue biopsy and the delivery of a material to provide hemostatis, therapeutic agents or marker material is described that can be used in conjunction with either an aspiration biopsy or a cutting needle biopsy device. The device has an application chamber through which the biopsy mechanism, either a cutting needle device or aspiration needle, passes through. The mechanism for an aspiration biopsy has a biopsy cannula of constant cross section over its entire length connected to an aspiration and collecting chamber and at least one application channel of constant or varying cross section connected to a dispensing chamber integrally connected with the aspiration chamber. The cutting biopsy mechanism has a mechanical or electromechanical mechanism to rapidly fire a stylet with a biopsy trough into the intended tissue and then fire a biopsy cannula over the stylet to sever and retain tissue that has protruded into the biopsy trough.

  • Patent number: 7133716
Abstract: A device and method are provided for determining the volume ECVhydr(t) of a body compartment of a patient at a time t by conducting measurements at the time t of the patient to determine at least one anthropometric measure X(t), the extracellular water volume ECV(t), and the intracellular water volume ICV (t) of the patient. The extracellular water volume ECVbasic(t) of a first compartment with weight Wbasic(t) of the patient at the time t is derived by using X (t), the extracellular water volume ECVsec(t) of a second compartment of the patient at the time t is derived by using ICV (t), and ECVhydr(t) as the extracellular water volume of a third compartment of the patient is derived with weight Whydr(t). The extracellular volume ECVhydr(t) is a measure for the hydration status of the patient.

  • Patent number: 7090647
Abstract: A distortion generating sheet (22) intervenes between a first and a second flexible sheets (11) and (12), respectively, with one end (23) thereof fixed to the first sheet (11), and the other end (24) fixed to the second sheet (12). As a consequence, when a shear takes place across the first and second sheets (11) and (12), respectively, the shear is conveyed to the distortion generating sheet (22). A strain gauge (21) fixed to the distortion generating sheet (22) detects and measures the distortion generated by the shear in the distortion generating sheets (22). A third sheet (15) is further provided with its periphery bonded to the first sheet (11) to form a closed space. The force bearing the patient is measured by measuring the pressure in the space formed.

  • Patent number: 7079889
Abstract: A living body impedance measurement apparatus is provided which measures a voltage attributed to the impedance of a living body, and separates it into a voltage attributed to a resistance component and a voltage attributed to a reactance component. Then, the voltage attributed to the resistance component, the voltage attributed to the reactance component, and resistance and reactance components of an impedance of an external reference unit are substituted into an impedance calculation formula that accounts for impedance fluctuation. A fluctuation constant is thereby calculated that is a constant for a fluctuation variable representing fluctuation caused by impedance change factors. The resistance component and the reactance component of a true impedance of the living body are then calculated based on the fluctuation constant and the measured living body impedance.
