  • Patent number: 7100673
Abstract: Support device for an assembly (14) of the casting rolls (11, 11?) of a continuous metallic strip casting line comprising a movable support at each axial end. Such supports (17, 17?, 19, 19?) are provided with a hydraulic bearing (13) to reduce friction during motion with respect to the assembly. Between the movable supports of one of the rolls (11) and the assembly is located a hydraulic actuator (18), which thrusts the first roll (11?) towards the second roll (11?) against a stop (16). Between the second roll (11?) and the assembly there are located magnetostrictive actuators which thrust the second roll (11?) against the first roll (11). The device has a joint provided with a housing (22) inside which a telescopic tube (21) for the supply of the cooling water to conduits present in the rolls may slide. The housing (22) is connected to the assembly (14) by means of a bellows (27) allowing for oscillation.

  • Patent number: 7096921
Abstract: The present invention provides coating systems that minimize thermal and residual stresses to create a fatigue- and soldering-resistant coating for aluminum die casting dies. The coating systems include at least three layers. The outer layer is an alumina- or boro-carbide-based outer layer that has superior non-wettability characteristics with molten aluminum coupled with oxidation and wear resistance. A functionally-graded intermediate layer or “interlayer” enhances the erosive wear, toughness, and corrosion resistance of the die. A thin adhesion layer of reactive metal is used between the die substrate and the interlayer to increase adhesion of the coating system to the die surface.

  • Patent number: 7086450
Abstract: A continuous casting method is demonstrated, in which a slab including a liquid core 11 is bulged and then reduced in its thickness with a reduction roll pair 7, in which case, the uppermost surface of the lower roll 7b in the reduction roll pair 7 is located at a higher level than the lower pass line 9 of the slab. With this method, the slab can be efficiently reduced in its thickness without any loss of reduction force and the generation of segregation can be suppressed at the center area of the slab in the thickness direction. A continuous casting apparatus according to the invention is suitable for carrying out the continuous casting method according to the invention. A slab produced by the method according to the invention has good quality, since the segregation at the center area can be improved over the entire width in which the liquid core 11 is included.

  • Patent number: 7080678
Abstract: There is provided a method or process for fabricating a hollow jewelry article which is hollowed or bored out. In accordance with this process, a metal ring model is prepared comprising a solid shank and a metal plate supported along the internal perimeter of the shank by means of a series of spokes extending from the shank. A first metal mold is produced from the metal ring model having the external shape of the jewelry article to be manufactured. From this mold, a wax model of the jewelry article is produced which is first filed down and then cast in order to form a metal model of a core insert; the core insert, like the ring model, has a plate disposed along the perimeter of the shank. This core insert is used to produce a second metal mold. This second mold may then be used repeatedly in order to form a soluble wax core insert model which is then inserted into the cavity of the first mold in order to define the hollow region of the article.

  • Patent number: 7073562
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing a monocrystalline component, having a complex moulded structure with different structure parts, from a molten metal. According to the method, said molten metal is located in a negative mould, corresponding to the moulding structure and said negative mould moves with the formation of a solidification front on a temperature drop, which is adapted to the crystallization speed of the molten metal and which includes the melting point. Said method is characterized in that at least one of the structure parts of the moulded structure experiences an individual temperature drop. If the solidification front has to grow through a structure part, which is inappropriately oriented in relation to the solidification front, said structure part or zone can experience an individual temperature drop. This enables monocrystalline components, having a complex moulded structure, to be produced in a reliable and economic manner.

  • Patent number: 7066238
Abstract: A process and apparatus for producing a metal strip using a two-roller casting device formed by two oppositely rotating casting rollers with parallel casting-roller axes and two side plates which bear against end sides of the casting rollers. The metal melt is conveyed out of the casting gap formed by the casting rollers as an at least partially solidified metal strip. To improve the sealing of the melt pool at the start of casting and in the event of parasitic solidifications passing through the casing gap, the side plates during a first time interval are moved onto the end sides of the casting rollers in a first direction of movement parallel to the casting-roller axes, and the side plates during a second time interval, are moved onto a portion of the lateral surfaces of the casting rollers in a second direction of movement parallel to the casting direction in the casting gap.

  • Patent number: 7036551
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of molding a low-melting-point metal alloy which exhibits thixotropy properties in a solid-phase and liquid-phase coexisting temperature region. In this method, a temperature of a heating holding cylinder is increased to a liquidus temperature or higher at the start of a molding operation. Then a remaining material in the preceding molding remaining in the heating holding cylinder in a solid state is wholly melted. After that a temperature of the heating holding cylinder is lowered to a temperature in the solid-phase and a liquid-phase coexisting temperature region. At the same time a molding material is supplied and a provisional molding is carried out. After the temperature has reached the solid-phase and liquid-phase coexisting temperature region, a regular molding is started. By the present invention a problem of a remaining material in the heating holding cylinder, which becomes a trouble at the start of molding by injection, is solved.
