Abstract: A system, method, and software (1600) are for moving inventory items (1610) to an unloading station (1640) in response to a fulfillment order. An input device (1620) is used to enter identification information about the inventory items. At a loading station (1615), the inventory items are received and loaded into holders (1605). The holders are then moved to storage area (1630). A controller (1625) is configured for creating and storing a first association between the entered identification information and each of the holders in which each of the inventory items is placed. A selector and transporter (1635) are responsive to the fulfillment order and the first association, and are configured to select a holder which holds the inventory items corresponding to the fulfillment order, and configured to transport the holder from the storage area to the unloading station (1640).

  • Patent number: 8725285
Abstract: A workpiece in a container is held by a robot based on a result of detection of shape information in the container by a shape sensor, a holding condition of the workpiece held by the robot is inspected by an inspection device, and the workpiece is transferred to a subsequent step by the robot when the inspection device has determined that the holding condition of the workpiece is acceptable. When the inspection device has determined that the holding condition of the workpiece is unacceptable, the held workpiece is placed on a temporary placement table, the shape of the workpiece is again detected by detecting the workpiece using the shape sensor, and the workpiece is held and transferred to the subsequent step by the robot based on a result of the detection.

  • Patent number: 8706289
Abstract: Methods and systems, in one embodiment, for receiving a warped flexible wafer to be transferred between a first mechanism and a second mechanism are described. The method and system senses a first vacuum suction between the warped flexible wafer and the first mechanism. The warped flexible wafer is positioned to define a gap between the warped flexible wafer and the second mechanism. Methods and systems for closing the gap incrementally between the warped flexible wafer and the second mechanism are described. At each increment, the methods and systems detect whether a second vacuum suction is created between the warped flexible wafer and the second mechanism. When a second vacuum suction is detected between the warped flexible wafer and the second mechanism, the first vacuum suction between the warped flexible wafer and the first mechanism is released.

  • Patent number: 8706290
Abstract: A method for transporting a set of items includes predetermining a destination point for each item of the set and for each further item which passes through the sorting system, generating for each item a current image of the item from a predetermined viewing direction, determining the predetermined destination point of the item, and initiating a transport of the item to the destination point. The method includes further transmitting a computer-readable description of the set to a data processing system which is connected to the sorting system. The description includes a reference image of the item from the viewing direction. For each item which passes through the sorting system, the method includes automatically deciding by the data processing system whether or not the item belongs to the set, wherein the data processing system compares the generated current image of the item with the reference image.

  • Patent number: 8700206
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for appointing an orientation flat, in which when there are a plurality of orientation flats with the same length, any one from among the orientation flats of the same length can be certainly appointed as a reference orientation flat. In the disclosed method, three orientation flats at three positions are detected, respectively, through the rotation of a semiconductor wafer, the lengths of three circular arcs between the three orientation flats are obtained, respectively, and then an orientation flat at the right side of the longest circular arc from among the three circular arcs is appointed as a reference orientation flat. Accordingly, it is possible to certainly appoint a reference orientation flat even though there exist a plurality of circular arcs with the same length.

  • Patent number: 8688267
Abstract: A method is provided for classifying incoming products (e.g., chicken butterflies) to be portioned into two or more types of end products (e.g., sandwich portions, strips, nuggets, etc.) to meet production goals. The method includes generally five steps. First, information on incoming products is received. Second, for each incoming product, a parameter value (e.g., the weight of an end product to be produced from the incoming product) is calculated for each of the two or more types of end products that may be produced from the incoming product. Third, the calculated parameter values for the incoming products for the two or more types of end products, respectively, are normalized so as to meet the production goals while at the same time achieving optimum parameter values. Fourth, for each incoming product, the end product with the best (e.g., largest) normalized parameter value is selected as the end product to be produced from the incoming product.

  • Patent number: 8682481
Abstract: A media processing device, a control method for a media processing device, and a control program for the same can accurately detect the last one or specified number of media stored in the media stacker. Media stackers store media in a stack. Media processing units write data and/or print a label on the media. A media transportation mechanism has a transportation arm that can hold the media and move vertically, and transports the media between the media stackers and the media processing units by movement of the transportation arm. A control unit controls the media processing units and the media transportation mechanism 31. The control unit has a measurement unit that measures the height of media stacked in the media stacker when media is removed from the stacker by the media transportation mechanism, and a comparison unit that compares the measured media height with a reference value to detect the difference therebetween, and determines the remaining media count in the media stacker.

  • Patent number: 8666537
Abstract: A robotic tape library which queues two or more move instructions is described. Generally, the robotic system receives a first move instruction which commands a first robot to move a first tape cartridge from a shelf to a first tape drive to be loaded therein. Though the first move has not actually taken place, the library replies to the host computer that the first tape drive has been loaded with the first tape cartridge, at least to an acceptable level of engagement, at which point, the first move instruction is queued. After receiving a second move instruction from the host to move a second tape cartridge from the shelf to a second tape drive, the library reorganizes and physically carries out the move instructions with potentially different hardware in a preferred order.
