  • Patent number: 4584037
Abstract: A thermoplastic container bottom is inertially spin welded into the interior of a cylindrical container body of paperboard internally lined with a layer of thermoplastic material. A body supporting mandrel has an expansible body engaging portion which is inserted into the body and subsequently expanded to define a cylindrical surface of a diameter exactly equal to that of the specified internal diameter of the body. A seating member at the end of the body supporting mandrel establishes the depth to which the container bottom is inserted into the body and is provided with a low-friction projecting resilient member which contacts the rotating bottom.

  • Patent number: 4579466
Abstract: The invention concerns a label printing and applying apparatus. The printing apparatus includes a mount for detachably mounting a label holder to the printer. After being printed a web of labels is wound onto a roll in the holder while the label holder is attached to the printer. The label holder may then be separated from the printer and is attached to an applier at which time the holder may deliver labels to the applier for being applied. When a roll of labels has been wound upon the label holder, a cutting knife on the printing apparatus cuts the label web, thereafter permitting separation of the label holder from the label printer. Printing of the labels is done in a rotary platen on the label printer. A drive transmission connects the rotary platen with the label winding roll for rotating the roll when the label holder is on the label printer. Instructions to the printer for printing particular indicia are inputted.

  • Patent number: 4556443
Abstract: A system for the high speed application of pressure sensitive labels to products includes an apertured label receiving head having both some vacuum apertures or ports and also some high pressure blower apertures or ports. Connected to the vacuum ports is a main vacuum conduit and similarly connected to the high pressure blower ports is a source of high pressure air which is applied in pulses to an input high pressure air conduit. The labels are dispensed across the faceplate of the unit and are held onto the faceplate by the vacuum applied to the vacuum apertures or ports. When it is desired to apply a label to the product, a pulse of high pressure air is applied to the unit and a shuttle valve within the faceplate or immediately adjacent thereto, is actuated by the high pressure pulse of air to slide across and close off the vacuum conduit, while high pressure air is simultaneously applied to all of the blower ports to blow the label across onto the product.

  • Patent number: 4549928
Abstract: A collector printing process is utilized for applying thermoplastic pressure-sensitive inks, corresponding to the color TV phosphors and the black matrix, onto the inner face of the TV panel. Separate inks, formed of inorganic pigments and a thermoplastic pressure-sensitive medium, are each separately patterned. The separate inks are then printed in registration onto a collector to form a composite pattern. Upon completion, the composite pattern is completely transferred to the TV panel by contact of the collector against the inner panel face to form the target.

  • Patent number: 4544433
Abstract: An apparatus is described by which a label bearing tape can be transported intermittently in a manually operated labeler. The device contains a transporting carriage (19) reciprocable along the label bearing tape (5). In the carriage a latch (22) with a clamping face (25) is held in frictional engagement with the label bearing tape so that during movement of the carriage in one direction it freely slides on the label bearing tape, while during movement of the carriage in the other direction it clamps the label bearing tape against an abutment surface (26) with self-locking action. The clamping face of the latch is covered with abrasive paper, preferably with an aluminous abrasive paper.

  • Patent number: 4537646
Abstract: Process for forming and securing a polymeric sheet onto a planer board, process for making a lap desk, a die apparatus used in the process, and the laminated board product. The process includes the steps of gluing an oversize sheet onto the board and drawing the board through a heated die to bend the edges of the sheet onto the periphery of the board. The lap desk is formed by gluing a bag to the periphery of the board, filling the bag with stuffing, and drawing the sheet, board and stuffed bag through the die to laminate the sheet to the board. The die apparatus includes a frame to hold the assembly as it is drawn through the die, and a press for pushing the assembly through the die.

  • Patent number: 4534751
Abstract: A thermoplastic end (110), particularly a bottom, for a container which has upstanding paperboard sidewalls (112) and which is inertially spinwelded onto the paperboard sidewall for bonding. The end portion (110) has an annular groove (148) for snugly receiving the sidewall (112) and a wall configuration (136, 138, 140, 142 and 144) which minimizes the forces exerted on the bond which would tend to dislodge the end portion. The wall configuration is generally in the form of an inverted U-shape with a portion of an upstanding wall of the U forming a side of the annular groove. The end portion has strengthening ribs (122) positioned generally within the region of U-shape and additional radial ribs imparting strength and rigidity to the container end. The paperboard sidewall may be internally lined with a layer of thermoplastic material or may be unlined.

  • Patent number: 4526646
Abstract: An inner lead bonder for bonding dies to leads of carrier tape with improved positional accuracy and improved work efficiency. In the inner lead bonder, dies are fed to a die positioning spot one at a time and positioned. Then, said positioned die is carried to a bonding position. On the other hand, leads of a carrier tape are fed to the bonding position and positioned at the spot above the aforesaid die. Thereafter, the leads of the carrier tape are pressed onto the die and bonded by using a bonding tool. This inner lead bonder is characterized in that it includes a rotary table with the size covering the die positioning point and the bonding position, and after positioning the die on the rotary table, the rotary table is rotated in order to bring the die positioned as mentioned above to the bonding position to place the die at a proper position for bonding.

  • Patent number: 4510010
Abstract: A press, carried by a first table and having punch and die components, receives a rectangular filler sheet and forms a lateral accordian fold sheet. The accordian fold sheet is lifted from the press by transfer means and placed upon an envelope sheet overlaying a second table. Hinged panels carried by the second table fold the envelope sheet over the accordian fold sheet, forming a rigid compartmentalized panel having an opening along a longitudinal edge. The second table, with the opening upright, moves to a position under a receptacle from which granular loose fill material is entered into the compartments through the opening. Subsequently, flaps extending along the panels move to further fold the envelope sheet and close the opening.
