  • Patent number: 8718029
Abstract: A circuit processes requests to access an antenna, the requests from a plurality of wireless communication protocols components including (i) a first wireless communication protocol component and (ii) a second wireless communication protocol component. The circuit causes a switch to provide the second wireless communication component with access to the antenna while the circuit is in a power saving mode of operation, and, upon the circuit exiting the power saving mode of operation, determines whether the second wireless communication component is utilizing the antenna. The circuit, upon the circuit exiting the power saving mode of operation, applies a first set of arbitration rules when it is determined that the second wireless communication component is utilizing the antenna, and, upon the circuit exiting the power saving mode of operation, applies a second set of arbitration rules when it is determined that the second wireless communication component is not utilizing the antenna.

  • Patent number: 8705490
Abstract: A server device may identify that a user device is connected to a first radio access network (“RAN”), via a first technology. The server device may identify that the user device is capable of accessing a second RAN, via a second technology, where the second RAN is different from the first RAN, and where the second technology is different from the first technology. The server device may also receive an indication that the first RAN is congested. The server device may further determine, based on the indication that first RAN is congested, and further based on identifying that the user device is capable of accessing the second RAN via the second technology, that the user device should be handed over to the second RAN. Additionally, the server device may instruct the user device to connect to the second RAN via the second technology.

  • Patent number: 8700801
Abstract: In general, techniques are described for using routing information obtained by operation of network routing protocols to dynamically generate network and cost maps for an application-layer traffic optimization (ALTO) service. For example, an ALTO server of an autonomous system (AS) receives routing information from routers of the AS by listening for routing protocol updates outputted by the routers and uses the received topology information to dynamically generate a network map of PIDs that reflects a current topology of the AS and/or of the broader network that includes the AS. Additionally, the ALTO server dynamically calculates inter-PID costs using received routing information that reflects current link metrics. The ALTO server then assembles the inter-PID costs into a cost map that the ALTO server may provide, along with the network map, to clients of the ALTO service.

  • Patent number: 8649394
Abstract: A system and method are provided for transmitting and receiving asynchronous channels of information via a SerDes Frame Interface (SFI) 4.2 interface. The SerDes device accepts a plurality of channels operating at asynchronous channel clock rates. Bytes of data from each channel are loaded into a source at the channel clock rates. Once loaded, the bytes of data for each channel are drained from the source at a line clock rate and interleaved into four 64-bit segments. A 2-bit control word is added to each segment, creating 66/64-bit data blocks. The control word indicates the validity of bytes of data within the 66/64-bit data blocks. Then, the 66/64 bit data blocks are transmitted via a SFI4.2 interface in four lanes, at a rate proportional to the line clock rate.

  • Patent number: 8644217
Abstract: The invention deals with the adjustment of the nominal target error rate for transmission of data from a priority queue to a new predetermined target error rate depending on the state of the priority queue. Usually, the adjustment to the new predetermined target error rate will be to a predefined lower target error rate based on states of the priority queue, such as amount of data in the priority queue, time passed since the latest transmission of data from the priority queue, whether the amount of data in the priority queue will fit into one transport block, whether the data unit to be transmitted for the priority queue is the first or last data unit in the priority queue and may also be based on the type of data stored in the priority queue. There may be more than one such priority queue.

  • Patent number: 8638753
Abstract: The technology pertains to wireless telecommunications systems in which a quality of service is handled for a service provided to a user equipment when the user equipment transitions from being served by a source network to being served by a target network. The quality of service is handled even if the source and the target networks implement proprietary QCIs. In general, a source QCI, which may be proprietary to the source network, is remapped to a predetermined QCI that identifies a set of predetermined QCI characteristics whose values are similar to the source QCI characteristics identified by the source QCI. The predetermined QCI and the set of predetermined QCI characteristics are used by the target network to provide the service to the user equipment after the transition.

  • Patent number: 8638768
Abstract: A signal encoding method and device and a method for encoding a joint feedback signal are provided. The signal encoding method includes the following steps. When two carriers are configured with multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO), Hybrid Automatic Repeat reQuest-ACKnowledgement (HARQ-ACK) signals of the two carriers are combined into a joint feedback signal. The joint feedback signal is mapped into a codeword according to predetermined mapping relationship between signals and codewords. Therefore, through the method for combining and encoding feedback signals of two carriers for transmission on a code channel in a dual cell (DC)-MIMO mode, bit error ratio (BER) and detection error cost are decreased, power overhead is saved, and a cubic metric (CM) value of the system is not affected, thereby enhancing the performance of the system.

  • Patent number: 8599692
Abstract: Data packets received at network traffic distribution device are analyzed to determine whether they include unwanted information, and, if so, the network traffic distribution device removes the unwanted information and then transmits the data packets, absent the unwanted information, to an assigned egress port (e.g., a monitor port communicatively coupled to a monitoring device). The flow of data packets may be received at the network traffic distribution device from a mirror port resident on a source of the captured data packets and/or a traffic capture point located along a communication link between two communicating devices within a network. In addition to analyzing the data packets and removing unwanted information therefrom, the network traffic distribution device may perform additional operations on the data packets as well.

  • Patent number: 8588180
Abstract: A mobile station measures reception quality levels of individual peripheral cells of a source cell and transmits information of the measured reception quality levels of the individual peripheral cells to a source base station that manages the source cell. The source base station selects a group of cells that are to be handed over, based on the information of reception quality levels of the individual peripheral cells that is received from the mobile station, and transmits information of handover ready completion cells that are ready for handover in the selected group of cells to the mobile station. The mobile station selects a target cell that is to be handed over, based on the information of handover ready completion cells that is received from the source base station, and on the information of reception quality levels of the individual peripheral cells at that time.

  • Patent number: 8572285
Abstract: A network equipment is in communication with customer premises equipment (CPE) through a primary electrical path and a secondary electrical path, and includes a timer, a processor and a switching device. The timer provides heartbeat packets for the CPE via the primary electrical path and the secondary electrical path to obtain a first response time and a second response time corresponding to the primary and secondary electrical paths. The switching device is switched to the primary electrical path or the secondary path under the control of the processor. When the timer reaches a preset retransmission timeout, the processor controls the switching device to be switched to the secondary electrical path from the primary electrical path. When the second response time exceeds the first response time at least twice in succession, the processor enables the switching device to be selectively switched to the primary electrical path.
