  • Patent number: 5978166
Abstract: An apparatus for positioning at least one magnetic head relative to a magnetic tape for recording and reproducing information includes a head unit for holding at least one magnetic head and a moving unit for moving the head unit parallel to a surface of the magnetic tape in a direction along the width of the magnetic tape so that the head unit is kept at a constant angle relative to the surface of the magnetic tape.

  • Patent number: 5654843
Abstract: In a method for performing magnetic recording and reproducing an apparatus is used which includes a magnetic head carried by a piezo-electric movable element, the position of the magnetic head is detected such that reproduction signals are maximized within the range of transverse movement of the magnetic head, i.e., the range of less than 1/3 of the track width is detected. Their corresponding pattern signals are inputted as renewed successively. The result of this method is that a good reproduction image can be obtained even from a magnetic tape having locally different record levels, following any track curvature change with time, without deteriorating the quality of image during reproduction.

  • Patent number: 5576902
Abstract: Digital video tape recorder apparatus that generates commands to instruct a television receiver to perform special processing, e.g., processing designed to enhance image quality, on video data received from the digital video tape recorder during trick play operation is disclosed. The commands from the video tape recorder inform the television receiver that the video tape recorder is operating in trick play mode and that video processing not performed on normal play video data output by the video tape recorder during normal play operation should be performed on the trick play video data which is output during trick play operation. The video data output during trick play operation is a subset of the normal play video data. The video processing commands output during trick play operation instruct a receiver to perform video processing intended to compensate for normal play data intentionally omitted by the video tape recorder from the trick play video data because of, e.g.

  • Patent number: 5552944
Abstract: Azimuth error between a write head (16) and a read head (34) is determined by passing a multi-track tape (2) past the write head (16) and subsequently the read head (34). The signals written by the write head (16) and read by the read head (34) are analysed to determine the timing error (38) between best-match time-delayed portions (20-28) of these signals. This timing error (38) is indicative of the azimuth error.

  • Patent number: 5548455
Abstract: In a motor control system, a first servo loop for a phase system and a second servo loop for a speed system are provided the pull-in operation of the motor during the transition time period is made stable, and also the operation efficiency of the low-speed CPU is not deteriorated. In the motor control system, the first servo loop is arranged by a speed detector for outputting a voltage corresponding to a frequency of a first reference signal used to set a rotational speed of the motor, a phase comparator for comparing a phase of the first reference signal with a phase of a control signal; and an adder for adding an output of the speed detector to an output of the phase comparator.

  • Patent number: 5539585
Abstract: When a magnetic track is formed, the magnetic track is divided into a plurality of track areas in its longitudinal direction. Information signals are recorded in the divided track areas independently of each other. At a portion of the magnetic track, there is provided a reference track area in which a specific reference signal is recorded. When an information signal is recorded in either of the track areas, the reference signal is played back from the reference track area, and the information signal is recorded in the track area corresponding to the information signal using the played back reference signal as a reference for timing of the recording. With the described arrangement, when a plurality of information signals are recorded in a plurality of track areas, which are formed by dividing a track in its longitudinal direction, independently of each other, a signal recorded in a track area is prevented from adversely affecting another signal recorded in a neighboring track area.

  • Patent number: 5510938
Abstract: An information reproducing apparatus for reproducing information recorded on slant information tracks includes magnetic heads mounted on a rotary cylinder. The magnetic heads scan a magnetic tape which has slant information tracks on which tracking pilot signals are formed. A tracking error detector detects the tracking error signal of the magnetic head scanning using the tracking pilot signal recorded on the slant information tracks. The tracking error detector then generates a tracking error signal indicating the amount of the track bending. A control signal generator generates a control signal in response to the tracking error signal for controlling the scanning position of the magnetic head. A tracking controller controls the slant track scanning position of the magnetic head.

  • Patent number: 5402270
Abstract: A method for duplicating data on a rotating magnetic disk in sectors on concentric tracks so that the sectors are aligned with each other from track to track and referenced to an index mark. The index mark is sensed as the disk rotates. The time elapsed between sensed index marks is counted to define the angular displacement of the disk. A magnetic head is moved successively to the tracks on the disk. Data to be duplicated is recorded in sequence, sector by sector, on the respective tracks beginning at different offsets from the index mark such that recording begins with the next sector encountered after the head arrives at the respective tracks.
