  • Patent number: 5740789
Abstract: A combination of a gas stove with oxygen device is provided. The disclosure comprises generally a pair of valves secured to the front side of a gas stove. The valves each has a rotor plug therein and each rotor plug has an elongate shaft axially connected and extended outward through the central hole of the valves with one of the shaft connected to a knob at a free end. Each of the shafts has a gear perpendicularly secured to an appropriately middle periphery and meshed each other. So that the two valves can be operated in concert when turns the knob. One of the valves supplies gaseous fuel and other supplies oxygen to the same burner in proper rate and mixed in the burner before burnt at the apertures. Both the gaseous fuel and the oxygen are supplied via a branched pipe so that they can enter into every portion of the burner.

  • Patent number: 5722823
Abstract: In a gas appliance, such as a domestic gas fire or heater, there is provided a gas ignition device comprising a solenoid actuator which is electrically operable to cause a gas valve to initiate a gas flow, an igniter which is electrically operable to ignite the gas flow, and a remote control unit connected to the gas actuator and the igniter by a low voltage line. The control unit incorporates a power supply for providing a low voltage output and a timer circuit for applying the low voltage output to the line by actuation of a relay to cause gas ignition in response to manual actuation of a switch. Such a gas ignition device is advantageous because the remote control unit can be mounted at some distance from the appliance so that none of the circuit components of the remote control unit is subjected to high temperature in use, and there is no requirement for a high voltage supply to the appliance itself and only low voltages are supplied to the inside of the appliance.

  • Patent number: 5722822
Abstract: Method and apparatus are disclosed for checking the responsiveness of a circuit which senses the presence of a flame produced by a burner within a furnace. A programmed processor associated with the circuit measures the time the circuit takes to indicate the presence of a flame. A warning is generated when the measured time exceeds a predetermined allowable time. The allowable time is determined by taking into account the decreased responsiveness of an electrode that indicates the presence of the burner flame.

  • Patent number: 5720607
Abstract: An ignitor includes a first transistor, a transformer, an ignition member, and a switching control member. The first transistor is activated in accordance with supply from a DC power supply to perform switching. The transformer has a primary winding through which a switching current flows via the first transistor, a secondary winding for generating high voltage when the switching current flows through the first winding, and a tertiary winding for generating a control output for controlling the switching of the first transistor in accordance with the high voltage generated in the secondary winding. The ignition member ignites a target object using the high voltage generated in the secondary winding of the transformer. The switching control member prolongs the ON time for the switching of the first transistor in accordance with a decrease in at least one of the ambient temperature and the power supply voltage.

  • Patent number: 5718217
Abstract: A safety device for fireplaces provides a non-flammable apron adjacent to the fireplace opening, the apron being sloped up in a direction away from the fireplace. Thus, logs or embers discharged from the fireplace will engage the apron, and will dissipate their energy in moving up hill. The device has a switch that is closed when the apron is contacted for sounding an alarm. A panel beneath the apron defines a space, and the air in the space will be heated. The heated air is directed into the living space, either by natural or forced convection.

  • Patent number: 5715808
Abstract: A direct vent fireplace has a mounting assembly for aiding in the installation of a vent cap assembly through which fresh air is drawn for combustion and exhaust gas products are expelled from the fireplace. The assembly includes a wall mounting box having a plate which may be secured to a pair of spaced apart framing studs of an interior wall adjacent to which the fireplace is to be installed. The wall box includes two members which are telescopically connected together so that the length from the plate to rear surface of the box may be adjustably selected to be equal to the thickness of an exterior wall through which the air enters and the flue gases exhaust. The vent cap assembly includes a plate which is secured to the rear end of the box after the box has been installed. Adjustable length flue gas and air tubes are received through the box and connect the event cap assembly to the fireplace.

  • Patent number: 5713343
Abstract: An apparatus for outdoor recreation and survival which provides five simultaneous functions: portability, light, heat, a friction ignition system and a liquid heating system. It combines together elements of a burner fueled by a commercially available propane tank, mounted in a housing where the burner can provide both light and heat simultaneously when lit. The apparatus can simultaneously be transported by use of a handle attached to the housing. Light and heat are maximized through the use of reflective surfaces inside the housing which surround the burner. The improvement comprises a friction igniter attached to the housing for the safe and efficient lighting of the burner. The igniter is attached to the housing through a door/framework containing fire resistant glass to protect the user from any flames during ignition and use thereafter. Furthermore, an improved liquid container provides an energy efficient kettle that heats liquids.
