Patent number: 6164091Abstract: Operational method for seaming the edges of a tubular knitted article (C) comprising the preliminary steps of knitting the article in a knitting station (T), removing the stitches of the last knitted rank with stitches-removing means mounted on a first unit movable between said station (T) and a hook-up station (R), overturning through 180.degree. the first semirank of stitches about an axis which virtually subdivides the last knitted rank into said first and second semiranks so as to dispose the thus overturned stitches in correspondence of the stitches of the other semirank, hooking-up the thus disposed stitches of the first and second semiranks, characterized in that it comprises, following the step for the removal of the stitches of the last knitted rank, the transfer of the stitches of at least one semirank onto means other than those which operate the above said removal, said transfer means supporting the stitches of said at least one semirank during said overturning step.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 1999Date of Patent: December 26, 2000Assignees: Fabritex S.R.L., Sagiacomo S.P.A.Inventors: Paolo Frullini, Alberto Frullini

Patent number: 6089045Abstract: A method for creating an opening in tubular knitted fabric articles, including the steps of providing a knitting machine having a plurality of needles mounted in axial needle slots in a needle cylinder, the needles having a hook formed in a top end of a needle shank and a latch pivotally mounted on the needle shank below the hook for opening and closing the hook. A deflector is provided for deflecting a loop of yam being formed by a needle into the vertical plane of an adjacent needle. A needle is selected from which a loop is to be transferred. The loop on the selected needle is enlarged by deflecting the loop out of the vertical plane of the selected needle laterally into the vertical plane of an adjacent needle while the adjacent needle is in a lowered, non-interfering position relative to the deflected loop.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 1999Date of Patent: July 18, 2000Assignee: Edelweiss Manufacturing Co., Inc.Inventor: Francesco Gavagnin Apollonio

Patent number: 6085554Abstract: A needle for a circular knitting machine wherein loops can be transferred from one needle to an adjacent needle for forming decorative patterns of open-work. The needle includes an elongate shank having a hook formed on a top end thereof and a butt formed on a bottom end thereof. A latch is pivotally mounted on the shank below said hook and reciprocally moveable by a yarn being formed into a loop between an open position wherein the latch resides generally alongside the shank of the needle and a closed position extending between the shank and the end of the hook. A loop deflector is positioned on the needle shank between the latch and the butt and extends laterally into a plane defined an adjacent needle for receiving the adjacent needle through the loop whereby the loop is transferred laterally to the adjacent loop to thereby form an opening in the fabric being formed by the knitting machine.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 1999Date of Patent: July 11, 2000Assignee: Edelweiss Manufacturing Co., Inc.Inventor: Francesco Gavagnin Apollonio

Patent number: 6082143Abstract: A circular knitting machine. The apparatus includes a generally conventional circular knitting element for forming a tubular knit fabric. A tension-controlled roll take-up assembly is located downstream from the circular knitting element for receiving the tubular knit fabric and forming a fabric roll from the tubular knit fabric while, at the same time, maintaining substantially constant tension on the tubular knit fabric being formed by the circular knitting element. This allows very large fabric rolls to be formed. In the preferred embodiment, the circular knitting machine includes a tension-controlled umbrella storage feed mounting ring adjacent to the circular knitting element for supplying a plurality of yarn ends to the circular knitting element for forming the tubular knitted fabric. The umbrella storage feed mounting ring permits an operator to attend to most machine functions without the need for a ladder or catwalk.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 1997Date of Patent: July 4, 2000Assignee: Sara Lee CorporationInventors: George Stephen Noonkester, James Moore Schenck

Patent number: 6021651Abstract: Plural carrier rails are arranged radially relative to a trick gap, and yarn carriers are made to run on the rails. In the yarn carrier, a feeder rod is mounted on a yarn rod guide so that the the rod can slide up and down. The feeder rod is pushed up by a spring coil, and the feeder rod is pushed down by a catching member toward the trick gap.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 1998Date of Patent: February 8, 2000Assignee: Shima Seiki Manufacturing, Ltd.Inventor: Masahiro Shima
