  • Patent number: 7975059
Abstract: A generic application-level protocol analyzer (GAPA) is adaptable to model an application and its response to messages in different protocols, including multiple, layered protocols in a network context. One mode of a GAPA includes an analysis engine having a plurality of objects adaptable to model an application and its response to messages. The objects may include a session dispatching object, a state machine object, a message parsing object, a protocol layering object, and a handler object. The analysis engine may be used to evaluate real-time network streams or to evaluate recorded network traces. The GAPA is adapted to specific applications using a generic application-level protocol analyzer engine language (GAPAL). The GAPAL uses a high-level syntax similar to those in existing protocol specification descriptions. The GAPAL supports binary and text-based protocols. Using the GAPAL, objects are described without writing low-level code to model specific objects or specify message formats.

  • Patent number: 7966382
Abstract: Provided are a method, system, and program enabling access to media content in media servers in remote networks. Available devices are discovered in a network capable of being controlled, wherein the devices include at least one media renderer and media servers. An access list is maintained indicating network addresses of a subset of the discovered media servers available in the network. A determination is made of discovered media servers having network addresses indicated in the access list and the media content in the determined media servers is discovered. Indication of the discovered media content from multiple media servers is made in an aggregate content directory of media content. Discovered media renderers are enabled to access media content indicated in the aggregate content directory.

  • Patent number: 7912976
Abstract: A method is presented for throttling data transmissions within a data processing system. Information about a data transfer from a server to a client is received within the application layer of a server, which stores the information about the data transfer along with information about a number of recent data transfers from the server to the client to create a sliding window of historical information about data transfers. The data transfer from the application layer of the server is delayed within the application layer of the server for an amount of time that is approximately equal to a computed delay time value in response to a determination that an average data transfer rate over the number of recent data transfers from the server to the client may exceed a data transfer rate threshold parameter.

  • Patent number: 7908320
Abstract: A multimedia collaboration system that integrates separate real-time and asynchronous networks—the former for real-time audio and video, and the latter for control signals and textual, graphical and other data—in a manner that is interoperable across different computer and network operating system platforms and which closely approximates the experience of face-to-face collaboration, while liberating the participants from the limitations of time and distance. These capabilities are achieved by exploiting a variety of hardware, software and networking technologies in a manner that preserves the quality and integrity of audio/video/data and other multimedia information, even after wide area transmission, and at a significantly reduced networking cost as compared to what would be required by presently known approaches. The system architecture is readily scalable to the largest enterprise network environments.

  • Patent number: 7899921
Abstract: The present invention monitors the receipt of messages between two endpoints on established sequence session in accordance with a Reliable Messaging protocol for Web Services (RM-WS protocol). The messages received may be application or infrastructure messages (e.g., acknowledgement messages in accordance with the RM-WS protocol). Further, the present invention defines a time period known as the inactivity timeout, which is an upper limit to the time that may pass without receiving a message (either application or infrastructure) on the sequence session. Based on this inactivity timeout period, the present invention calculates time periods for sending idempotent infrastructure messages in accordance with the RM-WS protocol for verifying and maintaining connection liveliness.

  • Patent number: 7805494
Abstract: A method of transferring user preferences from one computer to another is based upon a transportable data storage medium. Information relating to the user's computer configuration preferences are recorded on the medium at a first computer, which is then loaded at a second computer, so as to at least temporarily configure the second computer in accordance with the information stored on the transportable medium. The information stored on the medium may effectuate various configuration changes at the second computer, including the generation of a preferred desktop graphical interface. The storage medium may also include information relating to wired or wireless network or dial-up communications preferences, application programs, one or more user files or information relating thereto. The method may further include the step of accessing a remote location to at least temporarily configure the second computer in accordance with the information stored on the transportable medium.

  • Patent number: 7650400
Abstract: A database management system in which a plurality of nodes form a database instance, each node including a communication manager for dynamically configuring inter-nodal communication resources. The communication manager receives communication resource allocation requests from clients or a self-tuning algorithm. A resource self-tuning mechanism allocates or de-allocates memory blocks used for communication resource elements dynamically in real time without cycling the instance. Memory blocks are de-allocated asynchronously by placing associated communication resource elements in quarantine until all communication resource elements associated with the memory block are quarantined.
