  • Patent number: 5528867
Abstract: A cover member that engages a hook member formed into a precast, reinforced concrete block. The hook member assists in the lifting, transporting and manipulating of the precast, reinforced concrete block. The cover member is formed of a water resistant, flexible and resilient material. Preferably, the cover member has a shape similar to a hat with the apex of the crown thereof being opened by way of an inwardly tapered aperture having at least one slit therein. The tapered aperture has an entrance portion dimensioned to accommodate the insertion of the head of the hook and an exit portion dimensioned to engage the shank of the hook. A slit of the aperture is dimensioned to allow the exit portion of the aperture to rigidly engage the shank of the hook as the precast, reinforced concrete block encounters movement.

  • Patent number: 5517794
Abstract: An apparatus for forming exterior convex vinyl siding corners for use with external walls intersecting at angles greater than 90 degrees including a vinyl siding corner member with two exterior siding members intersecting in the steady state position at 90 degrees. The exterior corner is of a flexible material such as vinyl and defines two internal slots therein within which one or more expander members is positionable to spread the exterior corner member to an angle greater than 90 degrees and approximately equal to the obtuse angle of the intersection between the first and second surfaces. The expander member may be adjustably movable to vary different angles such as would be used in the external convex corners for mounting of bay windows and other similar obtusely oriented exterior walls.

  • Patent number: 5513474
Abstract: Proposed is a double-walled formwork element comprising two large-area panels suitable for use as mould shuttering, particularly in the concrete construction industry. The two panels are joined to each other by force-locking, liquid-tight and gas-tight engagement, and form between them a cavity. The invention secures the two layers of shuttering against slippage and ensures the discharge of any leak liquid produced. The invention also enables shuttering systems to be assembled cheaply and simply for constructions of various shapes.

  • Patent number: 5497584
Abstract: A plaster-protective cover for bathroom fittings is mounted recessed in the wall, the cover being fixed to the buried part of the fitting and having an outwards-facing dome-shaped cap designed to protect the fitting parts inside it. The hole in the wall for the fitting is sealed by a collar-like sealing element which produces a watertight seal and which has, at the wall end, an annular flange which rests against the wall. The flange is embedded in a layer of sealing material applied following installation of the buried part of the fitting as the bed layer for subsequently laid tiling, and the flange thus seals off the edge of the hole pierced in the wall for the buried part of the fitting.

  • Patent number: 5491933
Abstract: An expandable room structure is provided having relatively movable room portions supported by telescopically sliding tubes, at least one of those tubes being movable also laterally to pivot as the room portion floors slide into the same horizontal plane when the room structure is moving into expanded positions. In retracted positions the room portion floors are vertically spaced to permit one room portion to nest within the other. A rack and pinion drive arrangement is provided to cause relative movement between the tubes. Lateral movement of one of the tubes is permitted by engagement with an inclined surface extending out of the other tube such that the laterally moving tube pivots about the pinion. A ramp surface is formed on the abutting edge of the floor of one room portion, and the abutting edge of the floor of the other room portion moves up and down that ramp portion when transitioning between expanded and retracted positions.

An outer reinforcing cage surrounds the registration tubes and a coaxial inner reinforcing cage is supported from the outer cage by a plurality of spacers. Each reinforcing cage has a pair of facing C-shaped mats having straight mats overlapping and connected to the bent ends of the "C" to complete each reinforcing cage. Each end of the C-shaped mats have a smoothly curved transition bend joining a portion perpendicular to the main portion of the mat. Each mat has a layer of longitudinal wires connected to a layer of transverse wires. The longitudinal wires being more closely spaced near the end of each mat than in the remainder of the mat with no longitudinal wires in the transition bend of each C-shaped mat. The longitudinal wires are positioned inside each C-shaped mat and outside each straight mat when a reinforcing cage is assembled.

  • Patent number: 5485702
Abstract: A spacer used with substantially rectangularly-shaped glass blocks of the type having a ridge positioned intermediate its top, bottom, and side edges. The spacer comprises first and second oppositely positioned channel portions adapted to receive the seams of adjacent glass blocks. The channel portions define first and second ends. First and second oppositely positioned curved portions extend from the first end of the channel portions and a first pad extends from a junction between the first and second oppositely positioned curved portions. Third and fourth oppositely positioned curved portions extend from the second end of the channel portions and a second pad extends from a junction between the third and fourth oppositely positioned curved portions. The first, second, third, and fourth curved portions are each configured to form a friction fit with adjacent glass blocks while the lips of the adjacent blocks contact the first and second pads.

  • Patent number: 5481834
Abstract: A fire resistant panel includes at least four parallel vertically extending sheets of gypsum. The sheets are fastened together in a spaced apart arrangement with two outer sheets and two inner sheets positioned between the outer sheets to define a member having first and second opposite vertically extending sides. Vertically extending sheets of steel are in contact with and cover both sides of the member. The upper support for the member defines a circuitous path from one side of the member to the other. • Patent number: 5481841
Abstract: A set of tiles for covering a surface is composed of eight distinct shapes that are insect-like in that they are bilaterally symmetrical and have six leg-like projections. Each sort of tile will fit together with another tile of the set in an average of nine different ways. The tiles may be assembled jig-saw-puzzle fashion in an infinite number of distinct tilings. Ten different subsets of the eight insect-like or beetle-like tiles will tile the plane, some in several highly distinctive manners. The many and variable tiling patterns have considerable aesthetic appeal. They may be used as fabric prints, wall coverings, and the like, or as jewelry designs, or as highly efficient patterns for shaped cookies, etc. The tiles of the invention may also be used as teaching aids, or as puzzle pieces in an unlimited number of different puzzles of every level of simplicity or difficulty.

  • Patent number: 5479744
Abstract: A utility greenhouse (10) has a frame (30) comprised of electrical metal tubing (EMT) sections. Main frame members (12) bear the majority of the building's load. Main frame members (12), long side members (14) and short side members (16) all embed into the ground and are shaped to extend vertically upward for a wall height distance then curve upwards and inward so that a pronounced rounded appearance for the frame (30) results. The main frame members (12) and the long frame members (14) intersect the short frame members (16). Ties (26) secure the intersecting frame members together. A continuous sheet plastic skin (24) overlies the frame. The skin (24) is held to the frame (30) at an outer cover brace (18), an inner cover brace (20), and through ties (26) which secure skin (24) to the long and short frame members (14, 16). A door (54) is formed by cutting the skin (24).
